Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven-Chapter 285: Nightmares
When Ved heard that voice he knew exactly who it was but it didn’t matter. He pushed harder to insert those memories in Jonathan’s mind.
The herald pushed back and just like that a battle of wills began. Ved realised he might lose.
He didn’t know the rank of the herald before but now he did. This thing was certainly at or above law comprehension realm.
He could tell that instinctively, ’ How the hell am I supposed to fight against that?’ Manas reassured him though.
" Don’t worry, he can’t use his full strength, as a creature of the dreaming he can adjust his own strength but it’s still limited to the upper limit of your world.
I would still be careful though, he’s still an old monster with an incredibly powerful will." He took her words seriously.
However he still had no idea how to break past his will. Then it dawned on him, he too had a monster by his side.
The volume of will possessed by a divinity was immense plus Naledi also had an incredibly dense will due to her strong desire for perfection.
He didn’t know if she could match this old monster but she would certainly do better than him.
However this was dangerous as nobody would be left to protect the cowardly dreamer Jonathan.
He still summoned her here though hoping they could end this quickly. " I thought you said changing memories was going to be hard."
She said the moment she appeared, " It is, I’m not changing any memories but adding in the blanks."
She nodded, " So what’s the hold up." He pointed Infront of him. She couldn’t see anything but she could tell something was there.
She understood immediately, " Leave it to me." Her will flew to the wall of the herald’s will like a spear.
The entire dream star shook like it was going to break but the dream island below stood unmoving like a mountain.
Ved was taken by surprise at how powerful her will was. In terms of density it was not much greater than his.
Infact they were relative but it volume was like the sea itself. ’ Divinity is kind of unfair isn’t it?’ as the two incredibly powerful wills kept each other busy.
Ved continued with his task, in the dream realm, will was power, even more so than in the outside world.
Heaven didn’t put as many restrictions here so a powerful will was capable of changing and manipulating the dream realm more than they could the real world.
Even ones physical state could be dictated by will however when said will is accompanied by the power of dreams, wonders could be created.
If Ved didn’t split his own consciousness and will he could’ve changed and recreated Jonathan’s memories at will.
The man was incredibly weak willed to the point Ved wondered how he even managed to reach rank 3.
Because of how weak willed Jonathan was. Ved was easily able to add his own information to fill the gaps in Jonathan’s memories.
However that served to not make the nightmare so one sided, it didn’t reduce his fears no change his already existing memories.
He saw Naledi was still holding her own against the herald, he used that chance to read through the memory much clearer.
The memories used as the foundation for the nightmare all had one thing in common, the zombies lose.
He wondered how the herald planned to deal with that. If everything happens according to the dreamer’s memories then won’t he lose?
" If only it were so simple, you seem to forget the herald constructed the nightmare. He might’ve used this man’s memories as a foundation but the nightmare is his creation.
While certain things do have to follow the script, the herald can also change a lot of things.
However in this case he didn’t have to, the memories merely served as the foundation for the stage.
The play itself is created from Jonathan’s fears and you know what his fears are) he nodded. Then he drew Naledi back to the nightmare.
He tried to test if his experiment worked. " Do you remember how the battle ended when zombies attacked during the black winter?"
He nodded, they both smiled. " I was told we won the battle and the zombies were gone." He looked him in the eye, " How did you win though?"
He asked, Jonathan shook his head, both he and Naledi were disappointed. " Wait." He exclaimed.
" I think I remember, I passed out and I think Sam told me he gave everybody weapons that can permanently kill zombies, why do i remember that?
Do even such weapons exist?" He asked with confusion. " Yep yep they do they definitely do." Ved immediately confirmed.
"Hmh mhm what he said." Naledi supported him. Jonathan nodded too. " I guess they do exist, otherwise how could we have won that battle?"
Ved and Naledi nodded. They knew exactly how that battle was won, after all he wasn’t the only one with this dream.
Jonathan’s friend Nancy was actually still alive but she was broken after losing her brother Sam in this fight.
She left town without telling their childhood friend Jonathan. Currently she was also having this nightmare.
However hers was worse, much more terrifying than this. It was harder to deal with because it was based on her guilt.
She watched her brother getting devoured over and over and over again endlessly. He and Naledi have spent thousands of years in that nightmare trying to break her free.
To break that nightmare, they had to be therapists which Ved understood was impossible for him.
Perhaps it’s because he was a dragon now but he seriously lacked empathy for people he didn’t know.
Even watching that woman suffer so much didn’t stir anything in his four hearts. He watched many other nightmares alongside this one.
Everytime they finish the nightmare and save a dreamer, part of the herald is killed and the part of them that was there merges with another.
The opposite was also true when they lost and died in the nightmare.
They had just finished saving a little girl from a big bad monster. It was a relatively simple nightmare to deal with.
Very straight forward, it also made him realise something. The memories don’t have to be bad, the herald can just introduce your fears into them.
They felt another part of them merge together and the part of them that are in this dream grew stronger as a result.
He stretched his body. " Damn that feels good."
