Beast Taming: I Have an Immortal Mansion-Chapter 104 - 103: Attacked in the Wild
On the second floor of the Celestial Wings Building, Fang Qingyuan looked at the smug Tu Yuan and thought to himself, ’It’s best for an Inner Sect Disciple from a branch like my Beast Taming Mountain not to get too involved with a disciple from the Major Sect Lineage.’
Some things that Tu Yuan considered trivial would be a tempest for him if they landed on his shoulders.
Anyone else would have jumped at the chance to cozy up to someone like that, but he just wanted to earn some Spirit Stones in peace. It was best to avoid such risky business.
The matter should have been over. He had announced his identity as a Beast Taming Sect disciple, and the other party would have surely backed down. But now Tu Yuan had jumped in, beaten the man, and made the whole situation awkward.
And from the sound of it, Tu Yuan was planning to go looking for trouble with that Yangming Mountain Cultivator, which was even more arrogant.
Black Wind Valley and Yangming Mountain couldn’t stand the sight of each other, but his Beast Taming Mountain had no feud with Yangming Mountain. Tu Yuan was just looking for an excuse to stir up trouble, and he had simply provided the pretext.
’If Tu Yuan were really thinking of me, he would have at least asked for my opinion. Sigh... A scion from a powerful family like him can cause a world of trouble and still have elders to clean up the mess. But if I get too involved, would Lechuan be willing to bail me out?’
So, Fang Qingyuan politely thanked him, then began packing up his stall, preparing to return to the inn. He had been out for three days and wondered how Yinbao was doing.
Seeing how polite Fang Qingyuan was, Tu Yuan said a few more words, but his expression grew colder. He had enthusiastically stepped in to help Fang Qingyuan, but he didn’t get the fawning gratitude he expected, which annoyed him.
But Tu Yuan couldn’t lash out over it, so he could only watch as Fang Qingyuan deftly packed all his goods into a storage bag. In the blink of an eye, everything was put away.
After bidding Tu Yuan farewell, Fang Qingyuan paid no mind to whether Tu Yuan was angry. He quickly left the Celestial Wings Building and hurried back to his small courtyard with Jinbao.
Because it was nestled between mountains, and with it being summer, night fell quickly in Cliff City.
When Fang Qingyuan had first come out, the sky was still bright, but in less than a quarter of an hour, the streets had already grown dim.
As the colossal mountainside blocked the slanting rays of the sun, its shadow fell over the city, blanketing more than half of the urban area. A gray haze spread out, cloaking the sky above Cliff City, and one by one, the city’s lights began to glow.
On the crisscrossing streets below, crowds bustled about as shops opened their doors for the evening. The smoky aroma of cooking fires rose into the air, mingling with the high-altitude clouds and mist to form a slowly unfurling scroll painting.
Such a beautiful scene was rarely seen in the Southern Border, which was sparsely populated and lacked this lively, worldly atmosphere.
Fang Qingyuan stopped in his tracks. Hearing the calls of a wonton vendor, he ambled over to an open-air stall at the side of the street and asked the owner for three bowls of wontons.
Jinbao copied Fang Qingyuan, squatting on a small stool. It held a pair of chopsticks in its paws but had no idea how to use them.
Seeing this, Fang Qingyuan chuckled and began to demonstrate for Jinbao. After a while, by the time the wontons arrived, Jinbao had just barely managed to learn how to hold the chopsticks apart to grip things.
In the end, Fang Qingyuan saw that Jinbao was struggling to eat, spilling food all over itself. He shook his head, used a Water Magic spell to clean Jinbao up, and then took a piece of wood core from his storage bag to carve a small spoon for it.
Now, it was much easier for Jinbao with the spoon. It savored the wontons, its large eyes narrowing into happy slits.
After finishing a bowl of wontons, Fang Qingyuan felt much more at ease. It was a relaxation of the spirit.
What was the point of all that arduous cultivation if not to find some happiness? This bowl of wontons, paired with the lively air of the streets, was something he truly enjoyed.
After they finished eating, Fang Qingyuan put the remaining bowl away to bring back for Yinbao. Although it was just a mouthful for Yinbao, if he didn’t bring anything back, it would surely throw a tantrum once it found out.
After paying with a bit of gold and silver, Fang Qingyuan ignored the shopkeeper’s profuse thanks. He and Jinbao, man and bear, gracefully departed.
...
Back at his inn, Fang Qingyuan first checked the status of the Small Five Elements Inversion Illusion Array. He found no signs that the Array had been triggered during the three days he was away.
Then, Fang Qingyuan summoned the hidden Scorpion-tailed Poison Bees. After briefly communicating with them through his spiritual sense, he found nothing unusual.
With that, Fang Qingyuan’s worries subsided. It seemed the Yan Gui Building was indeed quite safe.
Fang Qingyuan took out the wontons he had brought back. Yinbao saw them and swallowed them in one gulp. After finishing, it looked at Fang Qingyuan as if to say, ’That’s it?’
Seeing this, Fang Qingyuan shot the silly creature a look and ignored it, turning back to his room to contemplate his next move. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
He still had nearly twenty thousand Spirit Stones’ worth of goods that he hadn’t sold. Should he sell them all here in Cliff City, or sell them along the way as he traveled?
Both options had their advantages. It was easier to sell things in Cliff City because there were many Cultivators, but selling to the tribes along his route would yield higher profits.
Prices were higher in Cliff City. The spiritual materials Fang Qingyuan had sold before had generally only sold for double or triple their original value, whereas bartering with the tribes should allow him to get over four times their value.
In the end, after a moment of calculation, Fang Qingyuan decided it was better to just sell everything in Cliff City. It would be best to get rid of all his goods in the next few days, then assess the situation and see if he should head back early.
