Beast Taming: My System is Bugged-Chapter 107 - 106: Recognition N Years in Advance
When both Pet Beasts had successfully completed their Mana Evolution.
Ma Tianba was now completely convinced that this was a viable new method of Evolution, and that it could be used on itself.
So, it snorted, indicating that it was going to search for Ice Element Spirit Beasts.
This chance encounter had allowed it to meet Gu Ming. It stamped its hooves, a gesture of welcome for Gu Ming to visit it again in the future.
However, it didn’t know how long it would be in seclusion, so there was no telling when they would meet again.
Gu Ming glanced at the text in the system and saw that Ma Tianba had already repaid its debt to the Gu Family. From this point on, they were even.
Ma Tianba indicates that if you seek it out again, you will need something to impress it, such as the Eight-star Divine Medicine currently gestating in the forbidden zone.
’Eight-star Divine Medicine...’ Gu Ming’s interest was piqued. ’The future Ma Tianba could be a Seven-star Spirit Beast, or even an Eight-star Level Spirit Beast.’
Ma Tianba clearly hadn’t reached that level of power yet. Befriending it now would bring immense benefits.
If Gu Ming left now, it would be fine, but their serendipitous connection would end here.
He needed to seize this valuable prospect. And so, Gu Ming decided to leverage the connection mentioned by the system.
When Ma Tianba was young, before it had evolved, it was once gravely injured. A member of the Gu Family saved its life, which was why it owed them a debt of gratitude.
At this moment, looking at Ma Tianba’s expression, Gu Ming surmised that it hadn’t yet recognized its connection to the Gu Family.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t have acted this way upon meeting them.
’Or are Ma Tianba and Grandpa putting on an act?’
Gu Ming took two steps before suddenly turning to his grandfather.
"Grandpa, doesn’t this White Celestial Horse Beast look familiar? I remember you telling me you once saved a little white horse when it was just a juvenile."
"Did I?" a surprised Mr. Gu replied, denying it out of reflex. He had told his grandson that story, hadn’t he?
But after he spoke, he fell into deep thought.
"I think something like that did happen, but..." Mr. Gu didn’t understand why his grandson was bringing it up. ’There’s a Celestial Horse Beast right here,’ he thought. ’Could he be talking about it?’
Meanwhile, upon hearing Gu Ming’s words, Ma Tianba’s ears pricked up and its expression shifted.
Ma Tianba hears you mention the old man and is lost in memory.
’It worked! The gamble paid off!’
Gu Ming’s heart leaped with joy, but he remained expressionless on the outside as he asked if his grandfather had remembered anything.
’Originally, this piece of the Gu Family’s future legacy had already been dispensed.’
’But the future is the future, and the present is the present.’
’They’re two completely different things!’
By separating the present from the future, Gu Ming saw an opportunity to double-dip.
Gu Ming hadn’t asked his parents because they were just ordinary people—and gambling addicts, at that. Not worth bringing up.
In his mind, there was only one possibility: his grandfather was the one who had saved Ma Tianba.
So, Gu Ming took the initiative to help his grandfather remember. While reading the memory description from the system, he began to retell the "bedtime story" he had supposedly heard as a child.
In reality, he had never heard such a story. He was relying entirely on the system to fill in the blanks.
And just as he’d hoped, when Gu Ming began retelling the story of the rescue, Ma Tianba’s eyes went wide. It suddenly erupted in a Holy Light, stopping everyone in their tracks.
It stood before Mr. Gu, lowering its head to examine him up close.
Before, it hadn’t connected the old man’s face with that of the person it remembered from its youth. After all, the person in its memories was a young man, one who had just set out on the path of a Beastmaster.
But the old man before it now had graying hair and age spots on his face. He looked fairly sturdy, but only for a man his age.
From the perspective of his entire lifespan, Mr. Gu was undoubtedly on the decline.
Ma Tianba stared silently at Mr. Gu, who was also starting to recall the past. He asked subconsciously, "Were you on the Biwan Prairie? The one abandoned by your herd and surrounded by a pack of Holy War Wolves? Are you... Xiaobai?"
’Biwan Prairie. Holy War Wolves. Xiaobai!’
Ma Tianba was visibly stirred. It had been a very long time since anyone had called it that name.
Only the person who had saved it in its youth had ever called it that.
No one else knew.
Furthermore, the fact that this man could accurately recount the story of it being abandoned by its herd was proof enough that he was the one.
Back then, it was just a naive and lively juvenile colt in the White Horse Beast Group.
During the Spiritual Qi Revival, the entire herd experienced a massive growth spurt. Their Mana and abilities increased dramatically, but the young colt’s growth failed to keep up.
When its other juvenile companions had all advanced to the One-star Level, it alone had failed to progress.
Its herd leader—the King of White Horses—abandoned it.
After all, a pack of Holy War Wolves had surrounded them. For the herd’s survival, abandoning it was the logical choice.
A group of military Beastmasters happened to be patrolling nearby and witnessed the event.
However, they didn’t immediately rush to the rescue. Instead, they hid in the distance, waiting for the White Horse Beast Group to wear down the wolves’ Physical Strength.
This was because the pack of Holy War Wolves was a Pet Beast Legion unleashed by a rival group of Beastmasters.
It wasn’t until the horses were on the verge of exhaustion that the Beastmasters’ Pet Beasts finally joined the fray. The two sides were locked in a fierce battle, and as the conflict gradually shifted eastward, Ma Tianba managed to escape the melee.
It dragged its blood-soaked body across the prairie for what felt like an eternity. It wanted to return to its herd, but there was no sign of them anywhere.
It was then that the young man appeared.
He stood before the little colt, the sunlight catching his hair and making it seem as if it were glowing.
And then, the little colt was saved.
As the memory surfaced, the two faces—the old man’s and the young man’s from its past—seemed to merge into one. The more it looked, the more alike they seemed.
Ma Tianba snorted.
It had never asked the name of the person who saved it; after all, its ability to communicate was poor back then.
But now, that same sense of gratitude washed over it, bridging the gap of years. It had actually found its savior.
The man and the beast immediately embraced in an emotional hug.
Gu Ming stood to the side, a smile on his face, clapping softly. Nothing more needed to be said.
Meanwhile, the old couple—Gu Ming’s parents—looked at each other, utterly bewildered.
’We... we didn’t know anything about this.’
’How could our son remember a childhood story so clearly?’
This made Mr. and Mrs. Gu a little uneasy. They worried that Gu Ming might start recalling other hidden memories, and they weren’t sure if the Hidden Mist Butterfly’s work had been thorough enough.
"Xiaobai, it’s really you! I never thought... after all these years, you’ve become so powerful."
Tears streamed down Mr. Gu’s face as he threw his arms around the white horse’s neck, hugging it tightly.
The horse, in turn, nuzzled against the old man without a hint of reservation. In that instant, the imposing aura built upon its immense power completely shattered.
But Ma Tianba didn’t care. Finding its savior again had resolved a great regret in its heart.
In the future, when it attempted a breakthrough in its Cultivation, even if a Heart Demon were to invade, it could no longer use this lingering regret as a weakness to exploit.
At the back of the crowd, Teacher Zhang scratched his head. ’Oh, crap,’ he thought. ’Looks like we’re not getting back to school today. I’ll have to ask for a day off.’
