Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 131: Who is telling the truth?
Visha, Uri, and Xeno knew it was unlikely that Krag and Chi were lying. However, when Visha asked Lyra the question, they didn’t see panic on her face. They saw the complexity of emotions that crossed her face.
It was obvious she wanted to believe that her parents were fine. But based on what she had seen before, she refused to believe it. Her confusion, hope, anxiety, and fear were all laid bare. She opened her mouth to speak, but stopped. It was clear she was unsure of what to say.
"That’s impossible. I’m not lying," Lyra twisted her fingers. "I saw them. They were beaten and thrown into prison. I saw them with my own eyes."
Her breathing was accelerating. Her eyes were drifting from one face to the other. She was obviously anxious. Cato came up to stand beside her. He reached his hand around her shoulder, pulling her into him. He rubbed her back, soothing her.
The five people watched her reaction. She didn’t appear to be lying. And in all honesty, they didn’t want her to be lying. They had already confirmed that she is Cato’s mate, which means sooner or later, she will join the pack. They refuse to have Cato go to Stonefang Pack; no one knows what would happen to him when he gets there.
Additionally, he would need to battle an entire pack for Lyra. After meeting Gram, Visha, Uri, and Xeno did not think he would play fair if Cato issued a challenge. So, they needed to sort out this problem as soon as possible.
"Alright," Visha said, rubbing her temples. "We need to really find out what’s happening. Lyra, they said your parents are fine. So what exactly happened before you left?"
They waited for Lyra to calm down. When she finally did, she didn’t answer Visha’s question. Instead, she asked a question of her own. She wiped her eyes and asked. "Before I say anything, I want to know. How do you know my parents are fine?"
Silence fell on the group, not heavy but thick. It wasn’t a question the trio was willing to ask. They knew Krag and Chi had things to hide. They knew they were more powerful than they knew, so their saying they went to Stonefang wasn’t out of the realm of what the trio thought was normal for them.
However, Lyra, who wanted to make sure her parents were safe, only wanted to make sure they saw what they said they saw.
"If we were to tell you that. You would have to join the pack. If you are willing to do. We will tell you," Chi said.
Lyra pursed her lips. They weren’t sure what she was thinking. She turned towards Cato, looking him in the eye. "Do you want me to join?"
"I do. You know I want you to." Cato answered quickly. "And if joining can prove your parents are fine, then I think you should. But I don’t want to pressure you." He tucked her hair behind her ear. "The choice is yours."
Lyra sighed, and her shoulders sagged. She appeared to be letting go of a burden. "I will join. But you have to make sure my parents are safe."
"They’re safe," Chi’s crimson eyes never wavered.
"Alright, I’ll do it," Lyra said.
"Good. You can do it with the rest tomorrow. For now, we need to talk about the possibility that what you think is true isn’t," Chi stated. "Now, you need to tell us why you think your parents are being held hostage."
Lyra took a deep breath. "The day before we met, my parents disappeared. It had never happened before, so I was worried. I stayed at home waiting for them to come, but they never did. I couldn’t sleep that night. Especially since I had just rejected Garm when they disappeared. I couldn’t leave the pack, and I knew no one in the pack would tell me even if they had seen them."
"The pack leader’s word is law. If he had told them not to say anything, then there is no way for me to know. The next day, I woke up early to find them at the door. They were bloody and bruised. They looked terrified."
"They told me what the pack leader needed me to do. They heard about your pack and what you did for the Stone-horns and the River Clan. They knew about you bringing Biron and his family in. They wanted information. So they made me pretend."
Silent tears rolled down her check and her voice cracked. "Hehe, I didn’t need to pretend. Garm wanted to make it look real. He did hurt me before I left. They treated it like a game. I would be scared; it wouldn’t look like an act, and you all would take me to your pack. It suited them."
"So they actually harmed you to make it look real? They beat your parents and forced you to get information? Because of me?" Visha asked. Her brows furrowed, and she pursed her lips, thinking of the things she had done recently.
She didn’t think these things were anything worthy of a pack of their size wanting to investigate their pack. There must be something else. Something Lyra doesn’t know about. But what is it? They couldn’t understand.
"Are you sure they only want information? Nothing else?" Xeno asked. "It doesn’t make sense for them to send a spy just for information. They could pretend to form an alliance with us if they wanted information."
Lyra shook her head, "I don’t know. They said they wanted information. That’s all."
The more they knew, the more they thought something was wrong. As for what it was, they had no idea.
"So...you saw your parents who needed your help. Our people saw your parents who were having fun when you weren’t there." Uri’s eyes were thoughtful. He scanned Lyra, his cold eyes taking in every inch of her.
Cato saw his gaze and a growl left his throat involuntarily. Uri’s eyes shifted to him, and a cold smile appeared before disappearing almost instantaneously.
"I do not want your mate. I have my own. Two, in fact." His voice was cold. But he couldn’t hide his pride when he spoke. "I look at her because I was thinking of her description of her parents."
"Based on her description of her parents and her features, I do not believe that they are her parents."
Uri’s statement dropped like a bomb.
No one spoke to correct him. Their eyes shifted to Lyra. They tried to remember Lyra’s description of her parents and compared it to Lyra.
Her mother is stocky with a slightly rounded face. Her medium-sized breasts complemented her wide hips, giving her a sturdy yet practical figure. She had thick black hair and wide dark eyes. A slightly rounded nose with full lips.
Her father was muscular and tall. His physique was about strength and endurance. His face was angular with a prominent jawline. His black hair and eyes mirrored his partner’s. His skin was slightly darker.
Lyra, on the other hand, had a curvaceous figure that was out of place with her parents’ solid build. Her soft, light brown hair framed her face. She had doe eyes that made her look innocent. If it were to be said, she looked like someone. It was more likely to be assumed that she and Visha had the same parentage.
Except that Visha had an oval-shaped face with almond eyes. Lyra had a rounder-shaped face. Their hair colour was also different. Visha’s was black and hers brown.
No one made the comparisons, however.
