Chapter 151: Creating Hierarchy

After the trio left, many new pack members stood together reflecting on what happened and their own experiences. They also dragged some of the old pack members into their conversation. They asked about the pack’s happenings and what they do on a normal basis.

Their conversation continued well into the night.

The trio who went home were exhausted. Closing the door, they shut out the world. Resting against each other, they inhaled deeply. The ceremony was more stressful for them than it was for those undergoing the pack bond.

Their own bond was tense. They felt the tension from Visha. Uri and Xeno’s instinct to protect their mate gripped them at certain parts of the ceremony. The feeling of the ram beastmen resisting and the toll it took on Visha made them want to physically move forward.

However, they knew it was not the time for them to show their protectiveness. Visha is their priestess; this is what she needs to deal with. Now, the chatter of their new pack members faded. The only thing they registered was each other’s presence. It reassured them and let them know that this small difficulty had passed.

"They were the ones who decided to stay. How dare they resist?" Xeno growled. It was only the three of them, and he could now vent. His body trembled lightly before being soothed by Visha’s touch.

"We should have expected it. We knew they didn’t really want to join. They found a loophole and exploited it." Visha’s hands moved down the arms of both men. "We should be glad they didn’t succeed."

"It was disrespectful." Uri’s cold voice filled the room. He flexed his hand, his thumb and forefinger rubbing together. He was thinking about the issue.

"They know better now," VIsha reassures, her hand rubbing his forearm. "They are part of the pack now. We can teach them that actions have consequences."

Uri pressed his face into Visha’s shoulder, taking a deep breath. His body relaxed against hers. Xeno’s powerful hands wrapped around both Visha and Uri.

"There is still tomorrow," he whispered. "We need to be ready for questions. The bond doesn’t take away their free will. It only stops betrayal. They will definitely ask questions after the ceremony tomorrow. If the same thing as last time happens, they will know it has to do with Shasha."

"Threats need to be neutralized," Uri snarled.

"They will be." Visha’s soothing voice sounded. "No need to worry about me. Being compassionate is one thing. But I will not let anything that threatens us or this pack survive."

Anger rolled off Visha’s body. She was angry about what happened today, but she kept it hidden. Now, with her mates, she did not want to restrain herself. She closed her eyes briefly. She felt her beast rising.

It had been happening more often these days. She was unsure of why. She had a feeling she would find out soon.

That night, they fell into a fitful sleep.

The new morning brought momentary peace. The trio woke up wrapped in each other’s embrace. Getting up, they stretched. Visha ran her hand through her hair. She watched as the sun rose over the horizon. The soft pink and golden hues. The lush greenery. It gave her a sense of peace.

The morning was easy-going. Today, the new pack members have not been assigned any work. What was needed now was a hierarchy. The number of pack members now demanded that they had people in charge of certain divisions who would report to them.

It was a momentary decision. They had not discussed it last night. Waking up, seeing the number of beastmen and females outside, they understood how much the pack had truly grown. Sending a pack link, they had everyone come to the square.

Arriving at the square, Visha thought about whether to make a platform. It would make it easier to address all the pack members. She sent the thought to Uri and Xeno through their link. Barely a moment passed before they agreed to her suggestion.

The pack members filtered in, their steady footsteps filled the square. Some padded over silently, barefoot. Others wore animal skin, making their footsteps muffled. They arrived one by one or in small groups.

The arrival of all the pack members led to silence in the square. This was a meeting the leaders had called. Disrespect was not advisable. Those who had joined were aware that no leader would appreciate disrespect from their own people.

"Everybody seems well rested," Xeno addressed good-naturedly. "There are some things we need to talk about today. Firstly, we are happy to see everyone getting along well. We hope you all know that since you are a part of the pack, you will receive equal treatment regardless of when you joined." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"We have a few elders in the pack. I want to make it clear. Unless you are incapacitated, you are expected to work. I don’t know how your other tribe did things, but that is how we do things here. We don’t ask you to do heavy tasks. But there is something for everyone here."

Xeno finished his speech, stepping back, allowing Uri to step forward.

"There is one thing that needs to be clear. We do not discriminate against half-shifted and rogues here. I am sure many of you have noticed that there are half-shifts here. You have also noticed that I am one of your leaders despite my missing arm." Uri lifted the remaining limb. His eyes scanned the crowd.

"New pack members may not know. Let me introduce our origin. We started with ten people, who were banished from their tribe. We were rogues." Pausing, he allowed them to understand what he meant. "This means we do not care where you come from. As long as you are willing to work for the pack."

"Today, we call you here to create a structure for the pack. There are many of us now. Your leaders and priestess have decided to have certain people take charge of specific things in the tribe and report to us."

Silence faded, and chatter replaced it. The trio allowed them this grace. They knew building a hierarchy would cause discussion. Uri held up his hand to stop the discussion.

"We will decide who the leaders will be. This does not mean they will remain leaders. We will observe for a period. If we believe you are fit for the role, you will keep it," Uri spoke. He called the names they had decided on.

Willa is in charge of foraging and farming. Vena is her deputy. The priest of the former Cheetah tribe, Dilar, will be in charge of medicine. Visha will teach him anything he does not understand. They will coordinate to streamline things.

The two to oversee maintenance and craft were Biron and his wife. They both had experience. The hunting leaders were Roc and Crosvil. This was what they had promised Crosvil. As for Roc, they used him because they knew Krag would not be willing to be the leader.

The patrol leaders were Kaelen and Kael. One in the air and the other on the ground. They have worked together before and were found to work well.

"We will keep a watch over your progress. This assignment doesn’t mean we won’t be working. The three of us will work alongside you. Smaller problems can be designated to the individual leader. They will choose the people for their teams." Visha smiled when she thought about having less work.

"After teams are chosen, we will check on them. Small disagreements can be handled by your team leader. For other decisions, they will need to come to us to decide how to handle them."

"Your leaders and I are still the hightest level of authority. We hope you will not misuse our trust."

Visha said everything she needed. She stepped back, allowing Uri and Xeno to have the floor.

"Your priestess’ thoughts are our own. We hope you do not disappoint us," Xeno agreed. "Remember tonight’s ritual, it is specially for our newcomers. We hope to give you the answers you need." He smiled cunningly after speaking.

With that, the meeting was dismissed.
