Chapter 43: Spending the night

The female with the blue eyes quickly ran off.

Visha noticed they didn’t need to discuss it. Which means the one with the blue eyes was the fastest runner in the group. She was satisfied. It meant she didn’t need to wait long for someone to come and collect the things.

No more than ten minutes later, a group of Tiger tribe beastmen came running over. They all had animal skins and furs to take things back to the tribe.

[Task complete: Alleviate the Tiger tribe’s hunger]

[Reward: 250 CP, Commune]

Visha didn’t stay to watch the festivities. She, Krag, and Chi went back to the hut.

Inside, Uri and Xeno sat talking to each other.

Everyone else was talking among themselves. They hadn’t gone out to socialize with anyone. When Visha left, she had explicitly stated that until she came back, no one was to leave.

Although she is not the leader, she still needed to talk to them.

When everyone saw the trio walking in, they quickly got up.

"Did you find anything?" Xeno asked.

"Of course. Don’t you know who I am?" Visha smiled, looking smug.

Xeno ruffled her hair and smiled.

Ever since they bonded, the three have been getting closer. They do not usually express themselves openly, but when they do, it is evident how close they are.

Uri walked up to her, kissing her cheek. "Now that you’re back, we can get down to business."

Visha rolled her eyes, thinking to herself that there was no rest for the wicked. Uri called everyone together.

"I’m sure everyone knows why we are having this talk. Tonight I’m sure there will be a celebration. They will try to get information about what we have done and where we have been. I will ask that everyone ensure they don’t say anything out of the ordinary. Especially about Kit." Uri spoke with authority.

"We have only just started our tribe. We expect to have more members as we look for a new place to live. It won’t always be just us. There are some things we need to keep secret." He turned to Heta. "You want to return, and we have allowed it. Before we leave tomorrow, you need to come back to the hut. I have something to say to you."

Everyone knew the reason Uri said this to Heta. They had discussed it before.

"I expect that nothing about the grotto will be revealed. That place doesn’t need people tearing it down. Let it be a sanctuary for the next person who finds it. If you’re asked, tell them about the cave we live in before."

Everyone listened as he advised them.

"The pots, plates, and utensils. If you give them to someone, you can only give one. You cannot reveal what was used to make the plate or where the materials were found. If asked about the Blight, you can let them know about the glimmer-moss, not the vitality stew."

"You all have friends here. I understand that, but you are no longer part of the Tiger tribe. Do not share the tribe’s information with others, unless they decide to join us."

Visha, standing off to the side, felt pride well up inside her. This was her man. His pride in a tribe that has only just begun is evident in the way he talks.

Uri soon finished what he had to say. He took one last look at the people before him and then stepped back.

Xeno stepped forward almost immediately. "I will only ask everyone to ensure one thing. Do not let the priest know Visha is a priestess. Even if you think he already knows. Do not confirm that she is."

He held up his hand, stopping them from asking questions. "I know it doesn’t make sense. But he shouldn’t know. I have never been able to trust him as a priest. Even when I was younger, I had always thought there was something wrong. I feel that if we confirm her identity with him, there will be more trouble than we expect."

When the meeting was over, the group heard the sounds of people shouting.

The once silent Tiger tribe was filled with fanfare. After Visha and her pack members left the three females, they went to other places to see if they would be able to find fissures like the one Visha found.

To their surprise, there were several fissures.

Visha’s group stood outside the hut, watching them pass by with joyous laughter. Everyone who passed had a bundle of winter-knot potatoes.

If Visha’s estimate was right, they had enough to feed their tribe for some time to come. She nodded. As long as the Tiger tribe leader didn’t make a mountain out of a molehill, they would be able to leave smoothly tomorrow.

They watched as the Tiger tribe priest made a large bonfire.

He didn’t teach the people like Visha did. It was a large pit that was already there. He only carried the fire from his own hut to the pile of tinder that needed to be lit. Once the tinder caught fire, he brought his flame back to his hut.

The celebration began before the sun fully set.

There were hundreds of Tiger beatmen gathered outside. From the young to the old, everyone had something to eat. As the night took shape, Visha stood with Uri and Xeno, watching the ease and familiarity with which the Tiger tribe people moved.

The rest of their tribe was swallowed up in the crowd. They were meeting old friends and making new ones. Visha saw Chi having fun with a few females, Krag following behind.

Heta was dragged away by her friends to chat. The rest huddled together with a larger group.

The children who had been listless all day now ran around, pieces of potato stuck to their lips and cheeks. People ate with their hands, laughing as their fingers burned from the heat of the potato.

Someone near the fire stomped their foot, and others followed, making music with their bodies. Some hit drums and walls.

They danced, wild and untamed, bodies moving in and out of the firelight.

Closer to the shadows, there were bodies moving to a different rhythm. There was no privacy, no courtship. There were only soft grunts and sighs. The muffled sighs and guttural moans swept across the open space.

Visha could see it all.

Having grown accustomed to the never-ending sexual endeavours of the beastmen from their time with her pack. She knew this was natural for them. Coupling in a time of happiness is one of the most normal things they could do.

Visha had no intention of stopping that tradition in her own pack when they find a place for themselves.

She knew that changing people too much would backfire.

All she wanted to do was find a home and thrive.

[Task: Finding a home]

[Description: The world is vast and wild. People without a home are like leaves in the wind. Find a place where your roots will grow deep. Where your pack will thrive for generations.]

[Reward: 1000 CP, System feature unlocked: Settlement Network]

Visha read the task, surprised that the system would suddenly issue such a task. She had already received the reward for the previous task. She was back to having 300 CP. Her ability now has a wider range. She didn’t need to focus on a specific plant to know what it is.

She could sweep an area to find the things she needed.

It wasn’t limited to flora and fauna anymore.

She could now find resources like the luminous crystals.

She found that after the system upgrade, there was a wider range of things she could view. She looked at Uri and Xeno, wondering if she should tell them about it.

There wasn’t a need presently, but if the system became more integral to their lives. She would need to find a way to tell him.

She thought to herself that she would cross the bridge when she got to it.

For now, she would enjoy the night’s festivities.
