Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 344: Mishap
After getting punched, there were a few possible reactions one could show. Anger, retaliation, shock, or rather hurt in the least. But this bastard did none of that. Demir’s face was marred with a deep frown as he watched Xavier struggling to breathe while he laughed.
"Crazy bastard" Demir bit out his inner thoughts as the Fox king continued with his roaring laughter. He looked like he was amused to death. By a punch? Was this fellow a masochist?
The gathered crowd looked at the duo with interest and a little fear. Although the Lion tribe enjoyed duels and fighting during the banquet, they were reluctant about immortal beastmen going at it in their tribe. It was not ideal to let the beings that single-handedly destroy cities to duel one another.
While all of this confusion, fear, and chaos was going on around them, Xavier continued to laugh. And once he stopped, everyone felt the air shift. Seeing him laugh like a maniac was less scary than the expression he wore right now. Dual colored eyes, unique in the entire Beast kin, glared at Demir in an unsettling way.
"I don’t mind you hitting me, Prince Demir," Xavier said as he smiled again. But the smile this time didn’t reach his eyes, "You touch her don’t you?"
Demir clenched his jaw as Xavier added, "It’s like she was the one who touched me when your hands landed on my face"
"You crazy....!" This Fox bastard seemed hell bent on riling him up. Those filthy words about his mate made him see red and he couldn’t help but say, "So if I kill you right now and bury you in the mud, will you feel like she did it instead of me? That is a tempting offer, I’ll not lie"
Xavier chuckled in response, "Talking is easy, Princeling but reality is far too different" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Demir scoffed, "I will do it even if it is the last thing I must do" Then his voice grew determined, "I’m willing to die now if it means keeping you away from my mate"
Those last words seemed to work on Xavier. He crossed the distance between them and was about to hold Demir by his throat until he was stopped by a feeble strength against his wrist.
"Step away from my mate, King Xavier!" Lyra stood between Demir and her attacker as she looked directly at the latter’s eyes. Blue flame danced in her gaze as she pushed Xavier’s hand away from them, "Stay away from us, you monster!" A rage-filled voice left her lips with a hint of desperation behind it. He had already killed her love once, not anymore! She never again wanted to go through something like that again. Her lips wobbled as she let out her last words which were more of a whisper that only Xavier heard, "Please.....stay away"
And before he could respond, she turned her back towards him and faced her mate instead, "Are you alright?" She roamed her eyes along Demir’s face and body making sure that he wasn’t hurt.
Xavier felt something inside him snap as soon as she did that. A rage like he had never felt before encompassed him making him lose his reason. His hand moved before he could think and landed on Lyra’s shoulder, forcefully pulling her to face him. The discomfort in his chest got relieved as soon as she looked at him. His eyes softened as he gazed at her, "Don’t turn away from me." his other hand cupped her face, caressing it, "My pretty female...Mine"
"Get off of me!" Lyra soon came to her senses and started to struggle in his hold. She felt her stomach turn the more he touched her. His vile face kept reminding her of Xenon and what he did. And as though further cementing that fact, the one person she didn’t want anywhere near Xavier appeared.
"Lilly?" As soon as she heard Blake’s voice, dread settled in her stomach. She no longer cared about being in Xavier’s arms. Lyra wanted to scream loudly. She wanted to beg Blake to leave, to not come near the one who had killed him in the past. Hot tears burned her eyes as they streamed down her cheeks seemingly without control, her entire body shook as she tried to talk to her mate but her throat refused to form the words. It was like she was suddenly incapable of talking.
"Take your hands off my mate," Blake could see the look on his beloved’s face and it was unlike anything he had seen before. The desperation and helplessness as she gazed at him made his blood boil. He felt it, she wanted to say something to him, and struggled because she couldn’t. That made him feel like he had failed her somehow.
"Get away from her, you bastard!" He suppressed his instinct to shift and launched at Xavier. Blake didn’t want to accidentally hurt his mate with his Beast form. Demir seemed to agree with that because, while the former went to attack Xavier, he quickly pulled their mate away from the chaos.
Lyra buried her face against the familiar warmth. She took whatever comfort she could until that, too, made her tense. Blake....her Blake, her husband, nothing must happen to him. She forcefully slipped out of Demir’s arms, shocking him. She never pushed him away like this. Something in his chest cracked due to her actions but his mate was unaware of it.
Her attention was on something else. Demir followed her line of sight and clenched his fists when he saw her looking at Blake. Again and again, this wretched jealousy kept creeping inside him. It shouldn’t matter; she first came to him and pushed away Xavier to keep ’Him’ from getting hurt. She did that, he saw it with his own eyes, but why...why was he feeling like this when she was doing the same for Blake? It was understandable, she was worried about that snake. He was her mate just like Demir was.
Then why was it that she always called for Blake after she had a nightmare? Why did she push him away? Thoughts like these kept on swirling in his mind but he pushed them away just like his mate had pushed him away to check on Blake. She might not like him as much as her precious Blake, but for Demir, his mate was his everything. She is his life.
He shook off his despair and stretched his hand towards his mate and gently pulled her towards him, "It is dangerous, sunshine. Don’t go there," Blake and Xavier were going at each other with hits that seemed to shake the surroundings. At least they had enough sense not to turn into their Beastforms.
Demir didn’t want to take any chances with his mate’s safety, so despite her protest, he pulled her away from the duel and towards the castle. He had to find either Kyrell or Kaizer to stop Xavier. The Fox king wasn’t an opponent that Blake or he could face alone.
"No!"
Demir struggled to hold as has he heard his mate’s scream. She thrashed around and kept on gasping while she continued calling for Blake. She sounded horrified about something. This made him confused. Yes, Xavier was powerful but Blake could defend himself ,well too. He was a great warrior in that regard. His years spent in the wilderness had made him tougher than one could imagine.
"He’ll be alright, Sunshine" Demir tried soothing her to no avail. She kept on struggling and crying out until something made her freeze.
Demir looked at her confused but paled when he saw the reason for her sudden silence. Crimson blood coated the bottom half of the white altar dress she was wearing. Her shaking hands covered her stomach which made him understand. Something was wrong with the baby and from the scent of its blood, he realized the cruel truth. The baby...was His. The child belonged to the Scorpion kin.
