Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 346: Scared of the future
Victor was just about to enter the bathhouse when Lyra remembered something. She struggled in his hold, making him release her. He did so gently, even amidst her panic.
Once she was down, he berated her, "Sweet girl, you could have gotten hurt."
Lyra sighed, casting a glance at him, "I know you wouldn’t let me get hurt." That seemed to soften him. But he still didn’t know the reason for her alarm. And before he could ask, she replied, "Blake was facing King Xavier alone; we have to go there, Victor."
Victor suppressed himself from lashing out. He mustn’t do that. Blake was her mate just as much as he was; it was normal that she worried about that snake. Xavier was a formidable enemy; that wretched snake could get badly injured or die. His sweet girl was a kind female; it was given that she would worry. He knew all that, and yet he felt jealous.
Here she was weak from almost getting scared about losing the baby, her dress was soaked with blood, and she needed nourishment more than anything. But even then, her mind was stuck on that snake.
"Victor?’’ Her voice broke his thoughts. She looked at him earnestly, ’’Let’s go, Victor." She was getting desperate. Seeing Blake safe was her priority. Leaving him alone with that madman unnerved her.
"He is not alone." Victor’s words made her pause. She looked at him in confusion as he added, "Kaizer and Noah are with him. We left when we heard about you collapsing."
Lyra let out the breath she was holding, "Is that so? Then it’s fine," She trusted Kaizer and Noah to handle the matters. The former was strong enough to face Xavier, while Noah was there to negotiate and maintain peace.
"I’ll take a bath now." She said, smiling up at Victor. However, due to her tiredness, she failed to observe the dark look on his face while she stepped inside the bathhouse.
Victor curled his hand into a fist as he dug his nails against his palm, drawing blood. His intense jealousy, especially regarding his mate’s extreme interest in Blake, scared him. That snake was someone he knew; they had been comrades for years, had gone through numerous dangerous situations together. When Blake became an immortal beastman before Victor, he had been happy for the former and didn’t feel a bit of envy.
Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and followed his mate. This small creature ruled him. She flipped all his thoughts upside down just by her existence. He helped her remove her clothes.
"Thank you, sweetheart." Her voice squeezed his heart like the stupid thing worked just for her. Tucking her hair up, she dipped inside the water while simultaneously turning to look at him, "Aren’t you gonna get in?"
Victor felt like dying. How could a single being be so beautiful? His mate was worth all the trouble. Who cares if she liked that snake more? The one who loved his mate the most was Victor himself. He was adamant about that.
One day, he vowed to replace Blake’s place in her heart, or he would die trying. He would not compromise on that. Lyra relaxed against him as he washed her with soft movements.
"I sometimes wish I was born in your world." his off-topic words took Lyra aback. It seemed like he wasn’t done yet as he continued, "You know the Earth females before you always came into the Vulture tribe." She knew that. While the gem was trying to find her, it brought many women from Earth into the beast world. And most of them ended up in Victor’s tribe. That was also why he was so knowledgeable about Earth compared to her other mates.
Victor massaged his mate’s shoulder as he continued, "I could have met you and done that marriage thing with you. The only man in your life would have been me."
Lyra turned to him and settled on his naked thigh, "What would you have done if I already had a husband before meeting you?’’
"Then I would have challenged him to a duel and earned my place beside you. I would have killed him if it came to that." There was no hesitation in his words, which made her chuckle.
Lyra leaned against him and playfully pinched his nose, "There is no such concept as dueling for courtship on earth,Victor. If you even approach a married woman and start threatening her husband, he will not be the one to deal with you, the law will." His face kept on turning sour as she added, "You, my sweet boy, would have become a jail boy if you were there."
Victor scoffed, "There is no prison strong enough to imprison me in all the worlds."
"I just said it hypothetically," Lyra pursed her lips, "Earth isn’t a place for us, Sweetheart." A sardonic smile came onto her face, "I feel weird even saying this, I mean, I have lived my entire life there before coming here. However, if I had the option to choose either, I would definitely choose the beast world. Yes, I miss my Mama and Papa, and sometimes wish to see them. But my priority now is my mates." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Victor felt her encircle her arms around his neck as she said, "This place has given me the men I love, beautiful children of my own, and people here have treated me as their own. Now, just thinking about never coming here and never meeting you guys makes me scared."
"That does sound scary." Victor had to admit that it was true. He couldn’t imagine a life without her. What if the gem had never brought her here? What if he had never heard about her through Michael? What if he had decided to stay in the stray valley and to spend his remaining days, and died there without ever meeting his sweet girl?
All of those ’Ifs’ made his blood run cold. One wrong step and he would not have her in his life. "I’m glad I met you."
"It is the same for me," Lyra replied while brushing her lips against his, "I’m grateful that I met you and my other mates. This world made that possible, so I will always be grateful for this place, and I know you want me for yourself’’
He avoided looking in her eyes, but she sought them out, "You are way too obvious, Sweet boy. And it’s okay to feel like that. I would have felt the same if you had some other woman in your life’’
That made him wrinkle his nose. The mere thought of having another female in his life left him repulsed. But his mate continued talking, "Trust me, I grew up in a Mongomous society, and getting used to having multiple mates was challenging. But the way you guys loved me, it was hard not to give in. I felt like I was an immoral woman at first, loving multiple men at the same time."
"Don’t say that," Victor frowned. He never wanted her to ever doubt her life with them.
Lyra sighed, "It’s just how I felt at that time" She wanted to clear that much. "I don’t feel like that now. I don’t know when it happened, but one day I woke up and realized that I couldn’t live without you guys. It was a realization that made me scared as well as happy. I had never felt like this before." Victor couldn’t help but pull her closer to him, "My heart belongs to you guys, I don’t know how else to describe it."
Victor hugged her, burying her face against his neck. Lyra tightened her hold and caressed his back, "I’m not telling you to stop being jealous, it’s unfair for me to say that, but I wish you wouldn’t hurt yourself in the process." She pulled back before holding up his palm. It had clear marks of clenching from before, "You belong to me, don’t you?’’ He couldn’t refute that, "Then don’t hurt what is mine. I’ll scold you the next time.’’
She said it as if she wasn’t already scolding him. His sweet mate, his sweet girl, "I cannot hide anything from you."
That stung Lyra. Her mind instantly went to the memories of her past life with Blake. Her mates were already this jealous of Blake; what would happen if they learn about the past? How would they feel about him being her only husband and that she ended her life after his death?
"What’s wrong?’’ Victor asked, seeing her face drop, but Lyra smiled brightly before he could ask more, "Nothing, it’s just that I love you’’
He grinned back, "I love you too, Sweet girl."
Lyra hugged him again, wanting to hide the anxiousness on her face. Some day, she would have to reveal the truth. It was unfair to keep the ones who loved her in the dark. She just hoped they would not gang up on Blake once they hear it.
