Chapter 350: Desparate for survival

[Black Wolf Tribe]

Elena felt her consciousness returning for the first time in a long while. Her body felt heavy and lethargic. Just moving her finger felt like moving a huge stone, but she kept doing it. Because she knew it! This was her only chance.

The woman who had occupied her body had left it with the intention of returning. That meant the Angel could still use her body. Elena had to act quickly to save herself. She thrashed around in bed to get moving quickly. She also hoped that this struggle would draw her mates’ attention. She had to talk to them and tell them everything before it was too late.

"He...Heath!" she shouted as loud as she could. "Ben! Ansel! Someone, please, help me!" Elena was desperate. Tears streamed down her face as she squirmed in her seat. Why wasn’t anyone coming? Then she remembered. This witch who had possessed her body had ordered her mates to stay away from her chambers. She did this to prevent them from discovering her truth.

"Ahhh!" Elena cried out desperately, then her eyes sharpened. She remembered the murder of her father, which had been committed by Kalena. If she didn’t move now, everything would be lost. With all her willpower, she managed to move her hand, then her legs, and finally she sat up panting on the bed.

She pressed her palm against her heart, trying to calm down. Once she did, the first thing she did was go out of the room. Elena dragged herself along the halls of her chambers while she kept calling for her mates. When she saw Heath, it was like all the fear inside her dissipated.

Meanwhile, Heath frowned when he found his mate sobbing, "What’s wrong...?’’ Before he could finish asking, his mate rushed towards him and fell into his embrace. He was stunned. She hugged him like she had never done before, like she loved him. Heath shook away those nonsensical thoughts. The one that his mate loved was Prince Lucas; she had said so even while she decided to take him as her mate. He was just an obligation she had to fulfill as the princess of the Wolf tribe.

Elena sobbed her heart out. The feeling of not even being able to have control of her own body was terrifying. It crushed her whenever that Kalena shouted at her mates to stay away. They must have felt it came from her, not from someone else.

"I’m sorry."

When those words left his mate’s lips, Heath grew confused. Why was she apologizing? She had done no wrong. But what she said next made him even more confused.

"I must meet Queen Lyra."

"What?’’

Elena had stopped crying by now, but her eyes were still red. She looked like she could collapse any moment, but the stubbornness in her gaze said otherwise. "I must see her if I am to survive."

Heath was flustered. "I don’t understand. You want to meet Lucas’s mate?" Then his expression hardened. ’Is it because of him?’’

Elena shook her head. "No, Heath, you have to believe me; this has nothing to do with Lucas." The latter was the last thing on her mind right now. Her existence itself was in danger; she didn’t care about Lucas anymore. He wouldn’t be able to help her anyway. But Lyra? She would definitely help her. She had to, or else Elena would die once that Angel was done with her.

Heath looked down at the hand gripping his own. He could never say no to her. "Alright." Elena’s face brightened as soon as he said that he had more to say. "But I don’t think you will be allowed to meet her majesty. Her mates will not allow it."

That made Elena pause. She was naive for thinking that all of this would go smoothly just because she wanted it. Right now her tribe was plagued with stray beasts. Everyone thought she had allowed it herself. No one knew about it being Kalena’s doing. On top of that, before all this, she had been openly hostile towards Lyra. Would the latter even want to meet her? But that female was her last hope. Only she could free her from that angel’s clutches.

"I have to meet her." She mumbled to herself, "I must, I must...I." Suddenly something flashed in her mind. With her mate behind her, she returned to her room. Her eyes fell on the quill and paper on the table. Kalena had it shifted to the room from her father’s chambers after assuming the authority.

Elena rushed to the table and scrambled with the feathered quill before using it to write something on the empty sheet. It took her merely a minute to finish. Once she was done, she turned to her mate and handed him the loosely folded paper.

Heath took it and glanced at his mate’s hardened eyes. She parted her lips and started to say. "This is very important, Heath. Please make sure the letter reaches Queen Lyra. Please do it if you wish me to remain alive."

He was frustrated. "You are talking strangely, Elena." He stepped to her and looked at her with a pleading gaze. "Please, I can see that something is wrong, but you have to explain it to me so that I can understand. You constantly keep talking about dying, and it is scaring me."

Elena sighed, "Heath, I don’t have time for this; please do as I say...."

"But why?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

"Just do it!" She shouted, "Since when have I allowed you to question me?"

Heath pursed his lips shut at those words. Yes, this was his mate. But was he so insignificant to her that she couldn’t even tell what was troubling her? As her first mate. Was he asking for too much?

Elena’s heart broke seeing him like that. Only after going through all this did she finally realize the importance of the ones that loved her. Till now, she had been chasing a man that didn’t even care for her while the ones that truly loved her were by her side. Her mates. She wanted to cherish them as they did to her.

And it was more the reason she had to keep this matter a secret. If she tells Heath everything, then he will tell her other mates. They will then be desperate to somehow save her. That means facing Kalena. That female wouldn’t put past killing them all just to keep the truth from spreading. Elena didn’t want that. The less her mates know, the better.

She held her mate’s hand and brought his palm to her face. "I’ll tell you everything when the time is right, until then don’t ask me anything, don’t Question if I behave differently, don’t even come near me. Tell the others too’’ then she kissed him. "Just know that I’m doing this for a reason"
