Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 112: Apollo’s Plan
Please...not here... she thought. I can’t...die here...
Apollo’s mocking laughter echoed over the storm.
The fortress snail’s divine, yet distorted, radiance spilled into every corner of the battered city, and tens of thousands of maddened demons continued their reckless stampede.
Even as the confrontation reached a breaking point, Hazel Ross’s fate hung in precarious balance, hostage to the worm that threatened to tear her mind apart—and to Apollo’s ruthless ambition, which aimed to exploit her soul.
Hazel Ross clutched her forehead, her slender fingers trembling from the pain drilling into her skull.
Needles of agony pressed from all sides, as if thousands of tiny barbs were lodging themselves into her mind. She sank to her knees, gasping for breath.
"Hazel, what’s wrong?!" Elias Vaughn demanded, eyes blazing with urgent concern.
She could see him, dimly, through a haze of pain. He was standing only a short distance away, battered and weary, yet still ready to fight. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"What did you do to her?!" he spat, directing his fury at the blond man before them—Apollo.
Apollo merely smirked, raking a hand through his rain-drenched hair. The night sky roiled with storms overhead, thunder cracking like a whip.
Distant flashes revealed the towering silhouette of the Fort Snail, which continued radiating an almost blinding glow, as if it wielded some kind of twisted, holy light. Even from here, they could hear the snail’s guttural roars reverberating across the region, and the manic howls of demons drawn in from Avalon Lake.
"Ah, yes," Apollo said leisurely, "Hazel Ross is struggling with her...unexpected awakening. That monstrous snail you see in the distance happens to be the catalyst, forcing her mind to unseal certain truths."
He turned his gaze pointedly to Elias. "You want answers? Fine. We’ve got a little time before my final preparations are complete."
Behind him, the Fort Snail’s shell shimmered. Its once-pure hue had become streaked with arcs of violet and black, signs of the demonic infiltration. Thick veins of corruption pulsated across its surface, fed by the thousands of lesser fiends that had thrown themselves inside, only to be assimilated. Apollo watched it with admiration, as though it were a personal masterpiece.
"That snail isn’t of this plane," he went on, his voice echoing over the tempest. "I brought it here from the dark plane, where it was just a small, insignificant creature."
A proud grin curved his lips, giving his normally refined features a manic edge. "That snail preserves the only flicker of holy light in the darkest place, an insignificant spark of purity born amid chaos."
Elias raised an eyebrow, wind-swept hair plastered to his forehead. "A spark of purity...found in a den of evil? Sounds contradictory."
Apollo’s grin spread wider. "Oh, it’s quite ironic, isn’t it? But in this plane—our magical plane—such light can flourish, can grow. Once it matures enough, it becomes the perfect vessel to house a Holy Soul—the key to bridging two worlds."
He chuckled, lightning revealing a glimpse of the cruel anticipation etched into his face. "All I need is that soul, sacrificed to a certain Lord of Pestilence, and the Fort Snail, now fully awakened, becomes our bridge. The power of that deity will flow into me. I will be the rightful messenger of God in this world. The Great God of Plagues!"
"Another megalomaniac with delusions of godhood," Elias muttered under his breath. "You people are all the same." But as he said it, he still felt a chill at the fervor in Apollo’s eyes.
Hazel’s mind throbbed anew, the jolts of pain almost blinding her. She could hardly raise her head. "What...what does that have to do...with me?" she whispered, forcing the question out.
Apollo’s eyes flicked to her, narrowing with satisfaction. "Why, you’re the perfect container for the Holy Soul I need. You carry a certain dormant spirit inside you. The Fort Snail’s resonance is waking it, and that ’Forgetting Worm’ in your head is a cheap failsafe trying to keep you from fully merging with your own power."
"Bastard," Elias growled, fists trembling at his sides. "Then you forced that snail to sing or whatever, just to torment her?"
"Indeed," Apollo confirmed, relishing each word. "The snail’s inborn call stirs that divine fragment within Hazel, aggravating the worm into a frenzy. She can’t die here; I still need her alive for the ceremony. But the more the worm lashes out, the more pain she experiences. It’s a most exquisite balancing act."
"You’re sick," Elias spat.
Apollo gave a dismissive wave. "Call me what you will. My plan is unstoppable. Soon, I’ll connect the two planes, my plague lord will descend upon this world, and I shall reign under him as an eternal sovereign."
His handsome features twisted into an almost maniac grin. "But you, dear intruders...are just in my way."
He raised one hand, conjuring swirling red-black flames. They danced above his fingertips like eager serpents. "And you have been mocking me, woman," Apollo said, glaring at Elias. "You’re unfit for the Black Sect. Just die."
A ball of roaring flame shot forward, tinted a dark, bloody shade that hinted at a synergy of curses. Elias, still worn from prior battles, grimaced.
He tried to form a barrier of sound, but the red-black blaze was unnaturally potent. A fresh wave of dread coursed through him—he couldn’t block this in time.
But the blast never struck him.
An enormous, black-and-crimson wolf claw swept into view, demolishing the fire with a gust of scorching wind.
Thunder boomed as the remnants of that cursed flame dispersed into harmless sparks. Elias nearly sank to the ground in relief.
"About time," he gasped, looking up.
The immense shape of Luke—his demonic wolf form partially manifested—stood protectively over them.
Hazel let out a shaky breath, her pain momentarily eclipsed by relief at the familiar presence.
Apollo, however, clenched his jaw. "You again," he hissed. "So you’re the demon shapeshifter causing all this chaos."
