Yet there were ominous shadows looming behind them: a bear-like giant demon. The two wolves were now surrounded by three other demon monarchs whose malevolent auras radiated around them.

Luke glanced sharply between the three figures. He immediately understood what was going on.

"This is a battle for the overlord of Nanling," he murmured, so softly that his voice was lost against the shrill roars of the demons raging far beyond.

The chaos that had erupted in the valley was not an act of spontaneous aggression; it was a calculated assault to overthrow the Queen of Wolves. For a long time, the various demons had been waiting for the ideal moment to launch a counterattack against her, for she reigned as the only peak monarch within Nanling.

But what surprised Luke most was the swarm of humans heading toward the battleground. With them, he noticed Caden Carter and Chloe Carter, leading a contingent of military mages.

"Humans? What are they doing here?" Luke frowned, his brain racing. "This battle shouldn’t concern them... unless..."

Luke’s expression darkened when he was finally able to realize the truth.

That vile Volcanic Poison Wolf had captured Marissa Jones and went after Tina Baine not to kill them, but bait their families instead. These girls had drawn the human military into the fray in their reckless attempt to rescue them.

Who, then, could have engineered such a devious plot?

Luke narrowed his eyes, surveying the battlefield. He soon spotted the Flame Demon Wolf with crazed eyes, attacking both friends and foes. Moments prior, this same beast had briefly regained clarity while dueling the Volcanic Poison Wolf.
