Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 342: He Is the Protagonist
Matthew opened his eyes wide and looked at Silvanus standing on the stage — he was the top-ranked candidate in this selection.
So his speech did not just appear here but was carried by light, beamed to other schools. Currently, many people across the continent would learn how outstanding he was, whether in ability, appearance, or bearing.
Silvanus had come from an ordinary background, and the other noble descendants were certainly waiting to see him humiliated.
Matthew could see their twisted, expectant faces.
But they would never see this: Silvanus spoke fluently on stage, his expression one of pure enjoyment.
The sunlight seemed to favor him, too, dazzling and so brilliant that it was hard to look directly at him.
Matthew could hear the others whispering nonstop — admiration, envy, everything — all born because of Silvanus.
Why are they friends?
That day, Matthew truly feared Silvanus was dead, and he thought he would die with Silvanus.
No, he didn’t want to die — Silvanus had told him to leave.
Sweat poured from Matthew like rain, and though he felt he had gone far, his dragging feet had barely carried him any distance.
It was hopeless.
So Matthew could only hide Silvanus to one side and run.
Sorry, Silvanus — but you were already dead, and I don’t want to die.
So Matthew ran, but it seemed even heaven did not want someone as loathsome and detestable as him to survive.
Those people found him, thinking Matthew had run to lead them to Silvanus.
"No, that’s not— let me go, don’t hit me, I’ll tell you where Silvanus is."
But they didn’t give Matthew a chance to speak, and beat him immediately. They wanted him dead, planning to find Silvanus afterward. They were confident that with those wounds, Silvanus couldn’t get far.
Matthew only felt terrible pain, realizing that misfortune truly befalls the wicked.
He thought they were surely going to die — he would die, Silvanus would die.
But it turns out the wicked can be lucky too. Not only did he not die, but he could also stay by Silvanus’s side. Matthew’s good fortune was Silvanus. As long as he had Silvanus, Matthew would forever be swept along on a favorable tide.
"Matthew, is that your friend? I heard you two are close."
"What’s ’close friends’? Silvanus pulled Matthew up here with him."
"That’s amazing..."
The other students jostled around Matthew, pressing in on him as the center — all of this because of Silvanus.
Matthew pressed his lips together and smiled shyly. "Yes, we’re friends."
"You truly are a bloodsucking leech." A strange voice suddenly sounded from deep within Matthew’s mind, making him flinch.
"Don’t act frightened, and don’t act innocent. I know everything about you — your past, your nature. You can hide anything from others, but you cannot hide it from me, because we are one." The voice was like a ghost, haunting Matthew.
He furrowed his brows tightly and muttered, "Get out!"
"What’s wrong this time? Just standing in the sun a bit and you’re already tired?"
At that moment, Silvanus’s voice suddenly sounded from above, startling Matthew slightly.
He lifted his head and quickly shook it. "No... I’m fine."
That strange voice had caused Matthew to miss Silvanus’s entire speech, and he hadn’t even heard the thunderous applause.
Standing beside him, Ariana looked at Silvanus with admiration and said, "You’re amazing, Silvanus. If it were me up there, I probably wouldn’t have been able to speak like that."
Matthew silently thought that was only natural — how could Ariana ever compare to Silvanus? No one in this world could compare to Silvanus.
The opening ceremony didn’t last too long. After the representatives finished their speeches, the principal once again shouted the slogan and goals Lumina had always upheld — that dispelling darkness and defeating evil forces was their duty. Silvanus listened with bright enthusiasm, wishing he could graduate and head straight to the battlefield right then and there.
"From today onward, I’ll be your instructor. You may call me Elder Walther. From now on, I’ll be responsible for overseeing and guiding your general path. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can come to me."
Walther swept his gaze across the new first-years, speaking slowly.
He looked somewhat different from most elderly Mages.
His body was enormous, his muscles bulging with astonishing strength. The bald head, the large bell-like eyes, and the scruffy white beard made him look far more intimidating than the other Elders.
It was rare to see a Mage with such a physique — it inevitably reminded Silvanus of Thora.
Walther continued, "Alright, now choose the class you’ll belong to."
He waved his hand, and a sphere of light immediately emerged from an unremarkable-looking box, radiating a faint, multicolored glow.
Silvanus stared at the orb in amazement.
Ariana, beside him, quickly explained, "This is what determines what type of Mage we’re most aligned with."
At present, some Mages specialize purely in spellcasting, some are devoted to healing, and others are gifted in forging and creating magic arrays or teleportation scrolls.
Thus, the classes in Lumina were divided into three categories: Magi, Aether Healers, and Runescribe Forge.
Students assigned to the Magi Class were the ones everyone admired — after all, who didn’t want to become a legendary Mage?
However, there were also people like Ariana. She knew her own abilities weren’t enough, and she was sure she would be placed in the Aether Healers Class. That was precisely what she hoped for.
The selection process would begin at random, but Walther made an exception and called Silvanus to the stage first — since he was the top candidate.
Looking at Silvanus, Walther said slowly, "Place your hand on the orb. Gold represents Magi, blue represents Aether Healers, and purple represents Runescribe Forge."
Silvanus curved his lips and replied without hesitation, "Can I choose not to pick? I want to learn all of them."
Walther couldn’t help but glance at Silvanus before responding evenly, "You can still study other disciplines, but this choice is meant to help you focus. Inside the Lore Tower are knowledge and records you could never finish learning in a lifetime."
Silvanus nodded, indicating he understood.
There were murmurs from below — some people snickered at his ignorance, and that voice really did sound like Nana’s.
Silvanus paid no mind and directly placed his hand on the orb.
A blinding light erupted instantly, as intense as the day of his first trial.
Walther’s expression had remained unreadable, but as the radiance subsided and the orb’s colors became visible, even he couldn’t help lowering his gaze in astonishment at Silvanus.
Silvanus chuckled as he looked at the glowing orb before him, as if he had already expected this outcome. That unshaken attitude made Walther’s eyes deepen with thought.
The orb was flickering with intertwined colors — chaotic yet brilliant, each hue shining just as vividly as the others. There were even streaks of light in shades never seen before, as though declaring to the entire world just how boundlessly gifted the young man before them was.
