Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 449: Bael
The atmosphere inside Bael’s citadel seemed tense. Even so, all trading activities were still proceeding as usual.
However, when they noticed the arrival of guests, their gazes could not help but linger briefly on Silvanus’s group.
Especially upon seeing Silvanus’s imposing and powerful bearing, they could not help but wonder whether the invasion had already begun.
Silvanus’s group went straight to the citylord’s residence, the tallest and most magnificent castle within the citadel.
Marax stepped forward with a smile and explained the purpose of their visit today.
Bael’s citadel was on the verge of becoming a battlefield, so which citylord came here no longer seemed particularly important or sensitive.
Still, it was rare to see people come here not to carve up a share of power, but to seek a pass into Chaosland. Were these people trying to throw their lives away? Who had ever entered that place and come back out alive?
One had to know that the path into Chaosland from the Land of Darkness was far more dangerous than the route from the Land of Light.
If one entered from the Land of Darkness, they would encounter countless Sentinels blocking the way. The Hobbits might be small, but the legacy they left behind was anything but small. Even if it were a Demon God, facing an overwhelming number of one-star Sentinels, the final outcome would likely be total annihilation.
Or even if they led an army inside, there would already be an army of Sentinels waiting for them, leaving absolutely no way out.
These Sentinels might show some restraint toward creatures from the Land of Light, but toward creatures from the Land of Darkness, they were incomparably ruthless.
If the Sentinels were capable of thought and could know what the Demons were thinking, they would probably be furious and cry injustice. There was no such thing as differential treatment.
The Sentinels had always been absolutely fair. Anyone who trespassed into their territory and was discovered would be killed, without exception.
In the end, Marax and the others were invited inside.
Of course, without Marax, Bael would probably never have opened the gates for them.
It was evident that even within the citadel, different factions were keeping watch on one another. It was said that the two figures vying for control of Bael’s Citadel were Vassago and Amon.
They were Demons who had reached the rank of Demon God. That said, this was merely a form of address. Anyone who became a citylord was automatically regarded as a Demon God, but that did not mean all citylords possessed equal strength.
And clearly, Bael was particularly weak. Worse still, no one was willing to support him, which was why he was forced to endure such humiliation.
They had only just stepped inside when a small figure with a round belly and stubby wings on its back came wobbling out in a hurry. Notably, those wings looked more like dragon wings than bat wings.
Behind he was a short but exceedingly plump tail, and at the very tip of that tail was a fluffy tuft of fur.
He stood only about a meter tall. The moment he saw Marax, he began hopping up and down nonstop, so delighted that his long tongue hung completely out of his mouth and swayed back and forth. Paired with that frog-like face, he looked both horrifying and ugly.
"Marax, Marax, you really still remember me. My heavens, it’s only been a short while since we last met, yet you look even more beautiful now. Truly the moonlight, truly the sun, the night-blooming epiphyllum in full splendor. Those people over there must be your pursuers, right. How troublesome..."
But before Bael could finish speaking, his gaze inadvertently fell upon Silvanus standing to the side. Instantly, his tail shot straight up, wagging so fast it was almost like a spinning fan. His tiny wings followed suit, flapping wildly, lifting his entire body nearly off the ground.
Then, as if something suddenly overheated, he dropped to the ground with a thud. Turning around, he somehow produced a black rose from nowhere, clenched it in his mouth, and dropped to one knee before Silvanus.
"My heavens, may I have the honor of knowing your esteemed name? Are you the lord of some great citadel, or are you the one who has come to replace Marax? No matter what, since you have traveled such a long distance to come here, you must surely pity my current predicament. Please allow me to compose a poem on the spot to sing your praises."
Just then, a cold voice suddenly rang out, "What is this frog babbling about. It’s unbearably noisy."
Nick startled, not knowing when Nerio had awakened. At this moment, an icy aura spread in all directions from he, his gaze fixed on Bael as if he were looking at a corpse.
Bael immediately jumped up in indignation. "I’m not a frog!"
After saying that, he rubbed his hands together and chuckled. "Then this must be the young master. Indeed, the hair resembles the mother, the temperament resembles the father..."
Bael looked at Nerio and quickly shifted gears, repeating his praise.
Cain laughed out loud. Asta’s expression was icy cold. Silvanus remained expressionless, while Nerio suddenly smiled faintly. "I am your father, idiot."
As soon as the words fell, frost and snow spread outward, turning the entire space frigid in an instant. The biting cold made Nick feel as if even his lungs were aching.
Clearly, he’s talent was fire. He was not someone who felt cold easily, yet at this moment he was still shivering uncontrollably. He could not help but look at Nerio in shock. In that instant, Nerio’s seemingly weak appearance appeared to have completely vanished. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
At the same time, Bael’s constantly wobbling body stiffened at a terrifying speed.
Just then, Cain suddenly spoke. "Without him opening the gate, we won’t be able to enter Chaosland."
Nerio smiled as he looked at he, his gaze utterly indifferent. "Is it really that important?"
"Important."
At this moment, Silvanus suddenly spoke.
Nerio widened his eyes to look at Silvanus, then irritably flicked his hand. Bael was immediately sent flying, accompanied by the sound of ice shattering. At the same time, Nerio had already turned away.
Silvanus expressionlessly scooped he up, and sure enough, immediately saw tears filling he’s eyes, about to fall yet not quite falling.
Normally, if Nerio were pretending, the tears would have already fallen long ago. Now, it was obvious that he truly wanted to cry but had started to care about his pride. Usually, when he pretended to cry, he never seemed to care about such a thing as pride at all.
It seemed that being severely injured had truly affected Nerio. It felt as though he had genuinely become a real child, and certainly one that was extremely difficult to indulge.
Silvanus patted he’s head and said softly, "Alright, go back to sleep."
At this moment, even Kirin took the opportunity to rub against Silvanus a little. Compared to his attitude when he was beside Nick, the difference was like heaven and earth.
Nick could not help but grit his teeth inwardly.
By now, Bael had also climbed back up. His small wings were still fluttering happily. He knew very well that he should not speak carelessly anymore. Clearly, he had tried to flatter the wrong person and nearly gotten himself kicked away.
The group entered Bael’s office.
They saw he struggling to flap his wings as he climbed onto a chair as tall as he himself.
He smiled toward Silvanus and said softly, "It seems you have come here with a purpose, not merely for a casual visit. Go on, what do you want?"
Although Bael sometimes looked foolish and improper, he was actually quite perceptive.
He had already seen that Marax would follow the lead of the powerful demon before him. Thus, he smiled and said, "First, how should I address you, esteemed and powerful demon?"
"I am Silvanus. We need a pass to enter Chaosland," Silvanus stated his purpose directly.
Upon hearing this, Bael immediately broke into a delighted smile. "A pass... the pass to enter Chaosland is me. But at present, my life is under serious threat."
Bael said bluntly, "If Mr. Silvanus here can save my citadel from disaster and drive away those coveting invasion, then I am willing to lead you into Chaosland."
Just hearing this made Nerio feel thoroughly annoyed, and Cain felt the same way at the same time.
Under normal circumstances, he would have dealt with Bael in an instant. After all, Bael was even weaker than Baratos.
But just as Bael had said, Bael himself was the pass into Chaosland. Only his ability could open the gate leading there.
Bael then continued, "If this succeeds, I will also gift you an additional force of one hundred demon troops to assist you in crossing the Sentinels and entering Chaosland safely."
After finishing his words, Bael blinked his slightly bulging frog-like eyes, looking at Silvanus with eager anticipation.
