Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 455: God of Demons
The prayer resounded so powerfully it nearly made the barrier enclosing the area tremble again and again. Taking Luther’s corpse as its core, a pillar of dark energy shot straight into the sky, growing larger and larger the higher it rose. In the end, even the barrier cracked apart, and the pillar of energy swelled until it occupied half the area of the platform.
Silvanus and the others quickly retreated, their expressions heavy as they watched the scene unfold.
Outside, Bael snapped his two fans shut and roared, "What the hell is wrong with these people? Can’t they accept defeat?!"
But it was already too late to stop the ritual. Bael could only hope that the God of Demons would not respond to this plea from Luther.
Yes, there truly was a God of Demons, an existence standing at the very apex of the Demons. According to legend, every race had its own supreme god, the highest of all beings. They all resided in that city floating in the sky, a place that had never once appeared before the eyes of anyone in this world.
Bael believed in this. Still, a god was a god. How could one so easily respond to trivial calls coming from all corners of the continent?
The Land of Darkness was vast. Every single day, people attempted to summon the God of Demons for all kinds of reasons, yet no one had ever seen the god respond. In fact, many of the current generations already believed such things were nothing more than myths.
Luther had disregarded everything, sacrificing himself just to preserve a shred of dignity and attempt to summon the God of Demons. But could it really be such a coincidence that the god would answer him?
Bael did not think his luck could be that bad.
The God of Demons had never responded to anyone before. For it to suddenly respond this time, how could that be possible? Hah hah, some "god of demons" or whatever. It would be best if it just stayed silent and let victory belong to the one who truly deserved it...
"Boom! Bang!"
Before Bael could even finish the thought, the pillar of energy that pierced the heavens suddenly exploded, dark energy spreading outward in powerful concentric waves. The sky of the Land of Darkness, once tinged with a dim red, turned into a dense, pitch-black void. The already faint light grew even dimmer. Waves of low, heavy sound, deep and resonant as if echoing up from an abyss, began to spread from the black energy vortex newly formed in the sky.
The two fans in Bael’s hands fell straight to the ground.
"No way my luck is this bad, right?! This is clearly a personal attack, a personal attack!"
Bael shouted in extreme displeasure. Yet at this very moment, the energy radiating from the center of the black vortex had already forced every demon in the Land of Darkness to kneel deeply and bow their heads. Their reverent posture held not a trace of falsehood. Their eyes shone with fanatic light as their foreheads pressed to the ground, not daring to steal even the slightest glance at the countenance of the God. At this moment, even if they were told to die, they would accept it without hesitation, let alone commit any act of defiance.
Naturally, there were exceptions. Silvanus, Cain, and Bael.
It was not because Bael was a city lord. He was simply special, much like how, no matter how hard Vassago and Amon tried to seize his citadel, they still could not challenge him directly or kill him.
The blood flowing through Asta’s veins urged him to react like the other demons, but just as his knees were about to touch the ground, Marax’s hand firmly pulled him upright. At the same time, a barrier of energy suddenly appeared. In an instant, the overwhelming pressure that felt capable of crushing him vanished without a trace.
Asta turned his head in shock, only to see Marax curl his lips into a smile. "My dog kneels only before me."
Asta instinctively retorted, "I’m not a dog..."
Nick, standing off to the side, watched Asta turn red in the face and was left completely speechless. Damn it, at a time like this, these two could still flirt and bicker? Could they be a little more serious? The God of Demons was clearly right here!
To show just how serious he was, Nick quietly edged a little closer to Silvanus. After all, sticking close to Silvanus meant he definitely would not die.
The sky high above trembled once more. The God of Demons did not reveal itself. All that could be seen was a sphere of dark energy, as if condensed from thick, viscous liquid clinging together, flickering with a dim red-black light. It continuously radiated an overwhelming pressure that forced all who faced it to bow their heads.
The energy sphere spun without pause, and then a voice rang out. "Your prayer, I have heard."
Clearly, this was not the true body of the God of Demons. Even so, the power it carried was no weaker than that of the original.
The darkness began to disperse, revealing the source of that faint red glow. It was a blood-red eye, wide open, staring intently at Silvanus and the others below. It trembled with agitation, and even with only a single eye, one could clearly perceive the arrogance and contempt contained within.
The gaze of the God of Demons locked precisely onto Nerio, who was held in Cain’s arms. Its displeasure surged even further when it noticed that Silvanus, Cain, and Asta were not kneeling before it at all.
"To allow a human to run rampant and even kill a citylord, insolence!"
The God’s voice carried a strange resonance along with an eruption of tyrannical energy, nearly causing low-level demons to bleed from their ears, their minds reeling in pain and dizziness.
Bael spoke up at once. "They were invited by me to assist me. The nominal victor is still me. You cannot twist the truth like this!"
The God of Demons had not come here to listen to their explanations.
"Silence!" the God roared. At the same moment, countless blood swords began to form in the sky, so densely packed in an instant that they blotted out the viewer’s vision.
A violent tremor rang out, like a command being issued. The swords overhead immediately plunged downward at an unimaginable speed, dragging along waves of piercing, grating noise and fierce gales.
This indiscriminate attack nearly caused the demons to instinctively scatter and flee in all directions.
Yet they still could not escape the fate of being pierced through like tattered cloth, leaving only shredded flesh strewn everywhere. For a time, ear-splitting screams filled the air.
Silvanus did not hesitate at all. He beat his wings and flew upward. Below him, a barrier formed by Cain’s power shielded them, helping them withstand this terrifying rain of swords.
But this was the God of Demons. The power of a god was obviously not something to be taken lightly. Cain’s strength was constrained by this world, and he quickly began to feel the strain. Yet aside from a thin sheen of sweat forming at his temples, there was almost no change in his expression at all.
"Me too!" Asta suddenly shouted, pressing both hands against the barrier. Diamond formations instantly grew outward, cracking again and again, yet stubbornly wrapping around the energy shield, clearly trying to reduce the pressure bearing down on Marax.
Nick did not hesitate either. A dome of flames flared up violently, attempting to scorch the tips of the swords and grind down their energy, so that when they struck Marax’s barrier, they would not hit with quite such overwhelming force.
Even so, it was obvious that they could be pierced through at any moment. Just how strong was this guy?! Marax was already incredibly powerful!
Silvanus... was Silvanus still all right?
Nick thought in panic. He tried desperately to see through their barrier, but the dense rain of swords left almost no gaps at all, nearly completely blocking his vision. He could not see anything clearly.
Silvanus was still flying upward without pause. His natural shield glowed with a brilliant dark purple light, and his speed was so great that he resembled a falling meteor, dragging a blazing trail of light behind him.
Sounds like shattering glass rang ceaselessly in his ears as sword after sword was smashed apart by his barrier.
Silvanus frowned deeply as he noticed cracks beginning to appear on his shield.
He clenched his lips tightly. Raising one hand, purple light flared in his eyes, which stood upright like those of a wild beast.
"Boom!"
A bolt of lightning burst forth like a gigantic sword, instantly clearing the obstacles in its path and tearing open a gap straight into the sky. Through it, one could clearly see that eye, wide open and filled with rage, staring directly at Silvanus.
Silvanus did not slow down in the slightest. He almost chased after the lightning itself, grasping it like a spear and thrusting it forward with all his strength toward that lofty existence above!
