Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Despair

Despite Noah not needing to use his full potential against the Kaiju, he was still satisfied with the results.

He was completely aware that his strength had taken a qualitative leap when compared to most of the creatures he would face when he had obtained his new class.

This seemingly fruitless confrontation wasn’t just to assess his future vassal, but it was also to fully confirm his belief in his own prowess.

Yet there was neither pride nor arrogance in his expression.

There was nothing to be proud of when beating someone weaker.

However, he was still bestowed with a sense of security upon seeing that an enemy that a portion of humanity couldn’t contend with, was now being dominated by him without.

Noah had already confronted beings more powerful than him, and other enemies stronger than him were foreshadowed to be hiding somewhere out there.

Since the reveal of divinity and the gods that were able to bestow it, he felt pressed against time, but now that heavy mountain felt a little bit smaller. He felt prepared.

Noah noticed the Kaiju’s throat becoming brighter, in its futile attempts to tear off the webs it was now resorting to using its explosive energy to remove it.

In that moment, the Kaiju’s actions suddenly froze, its gaze became blank as if it was devoid of thought, but then it suddenly regained its clarity, its rampage becoming more frantic than before after sensing its body being manipulated.

Knowing that turning the Kaiju into his vassal failed, Noah wasn’t surprised, the creature’s bloodline was strong, so was its will. He couldn’t try the skill again recklessly or his skill would no longer work on it and he would lose all possibility of making the creature his.

Slowly, Noah lifted the staff that was always idle in his grip. The catalyst began to emit an ethereal glow as Noah poured in an abnormal amount of mana into the gem. When the gem finally absorbed enough mana, both him and every creature tied to his soul felt enlightened. It was as if they had become aware that the way they have been using their skills rudimentary all along. Noah was no different.

The light in Noah’s eyes glistened to the feeling, disappointed that the current feeling couldn’t help him further his skills. When he used the staff the first time, he was unable to recall this sensation after its effects were over. The feeling always felt so close and yet always just out of reach.

It wasn’t knowledge, not exactly, it was a sense of clarity.

Noah’s grip around the staff tightened. Each one of his eyes released an intense violet glow that somehow magically caused a violet aura to envelope the Kaiju’s body.

The Kaiju felt its body weakened immensely, the energy that threatened to burst through its chest dimmed, its reaction speed and attunement with its body felt off.

Its thought momentary lapse as it tried to understand what was happening, yet throughout this entire time its senses were always locked onto Noah’s position.

But during its distraction, its body quivered, its instincts screamed danger.

Its eyes shot to where Noah was supposed to be, still, Noah had yet to move.

Bam!

Its body was uplifted into the air, something struck its chest that completely rattled its sense of its surroundings.

Again, it couldn’t understand what was going on. But as its body was still recoiling from the attack, it noticed Noah position in front of it, his arm still in the stance from his punch.

Seeing Noah in front of it, and seeing Noah still standing there in the distance, it realized that it was another fake.

Its body was coming back down to the ground as it centered its sense of gravity while in the air.

Its chest glowed again; it was determined to destroy the web covering its mouth. Without its strongest attack it would have no other way to win. freewebnσvel.cѳm

As it was building up its charged attack, its tail whipped towards Noah’s location to give it time.

Danger!*

Its senses were fully alerted when it witnessed its tail stabbing straight through another fake.

Noah’s illusion made it appear as if he was manipulating every single one of the Kaiju’s senses, but that wasn’t the case at all.

In the beginning, Noah had used the moment of surprise, but afterwards he constantly diverted the Kaiju’s attention to allow his simple trick to become unrecognizable. Either it was the webs covering the Kaiju’s mouth, or the small display of his staff’s powers, it was during those moments when the Kaiju’s vigilance was elsewhere that he was able to deceive its senses.

But now, the situation is entirely different. From the moment Noah used the ability derived from Arachne to lower two of the Kaiju’s attributes that were higher than his own; one being its speed, while the other was its strength. Noah no longer needed those simple acts of deception to deceive it anymore.

Not only did he lower the creature’s perception by lowering its agility, but his own agility was empowered by almost half of the drained stat. Now the disparity in the comparison of their speed made his actions seem like an illusion in itself. And Noah using his illusion skill in tandem with his superior speed made the illusion that much more potent.

The Kaiju’s senses barely picked up on the presence above it. Again, it attempted to maneuver in the air in response, but another fierce punch sent it crashing towards the ground.

Before it crashed into the ground, its tail circled, stabbing into the concrete to help support its weight, landing all fours.

It barely had time to stabilize itself when its senses picked up the danger still coming from above it. Noah wasn’t allowing the creature to breathe. Since he wasn’t able to subjugate it initially, he went with his next choice, to make it feel despair. It was a concept that should be impossible to make a zombie feel, but its evolution made such things possible.

Noah’s eyes were still glowing, every action of the Kaiju’s was already predetermined. Noah was willing to use all of his mana in this fight if that’s what it took.

The Kaiju leaped away, using both its four limbs and its tail to propel it further and faster than its body would allow.

While it was in the process of retreating. Four sets of blackish string harmlessly attached itself to it. One on each of its arms, the other on its chest, and then the last was centered on its forehead.

Wham!

A vicious tug yanked its body in the opposite direction. The heavy whiplash disoriented it further as its face caved into the ground.

Desperation kicked it as it realized the strings were the same webs that encased its mouth. It couldn’t allow Noah to ensnare it within those webs.

It first tried to use all of its strength to push itself off of the ground, only to be forcibly yanked back down.

The Kaiju screeched from utter frustration, its cries muffled from both the webs and its buried face. If it couldn’t move, then it could only rely on its tail.

Its tail moved with speed faster than what its body could perform, but it was meaningless. Noah’s spider appendages parried every angle of attack while he moved forward without a shred of effort.

The Kaiju’s frustration only grew to recklessness. The ground was illuminated with the convergence of its energy already forming within its mouth. Regardless that its mouth was sealed, regardless that its face was buried, it was still willing to release its energy bomb to remove itself from its restraints, and Noah didn’t prevent it from happening this time.

Boom!

The release was catastrophic, but not in the way the Kaiju intended. The ground trembled all around it, cracks threatened to sink the ground with meters around it. Its body was in agonizing pain while smoke was seeping from every pore within its body, but the webs remained.

In the exact moment that the Kaiju released its attack, Noah simply imparted enough mana into the web to allow it to bear the strain.

The Kaiju’s sense of awareness was scrambled, having yet to fully grasp its own failure.

But then it felt something grasp its head. Its vision cleared as its face was no longer buried in debris. There it saw Noah’s eyes face to face with its own as Noah was crouched down to eye level with it.

Despite its incoherent state, the moment it locked eyes with Noah’s, it instinctively stabbed towards his face with its claws.

Stab!

The exact moment its arm moved, one of Noah’s appendages impaled it into the ground. The exact same scene repeated when the Kaiju desperately lashed out with its other claw. In its last ditch effort, it used its tail, hoping to pierce Noah’s chest.

Ding*

And yet, the attack was simply parried by another one of Noah’s appendages. In that same instance, two strings of webs shot out from the longer appendages, tangling its tail in webs at two different points. With all its strength, the Kaiju attempted to retrieve its tail with no success.

Noah didn’t say anything as he denied every futile attempt for the Kaiju to get free. He could glimpse the small glimmer of helplessness in its eyes growing stronger. And after the creature struggles with all its might, its spirit will break, allowing Noah to finally obtain his prize.
