Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Threatened

Of course, Edith wouldn’t stay silent when faced with a big problem like this. When she returned to the boutique, everyone was answering phone calls from customers who wanted to terminate their contracts with the boutique because of the news that had gone viral. Even the vendors who provided high-quality fabrics and helped produce the clothes were openly criticizing Edith, saying they didn’t want to work with a designer who liked to copy other people’s designs.

Edith met with the boss of one of the fabric factory vendors and heard various insults and complaints, even threatening to terminate the contract. Her heart ached, as if she had been shot repeatedly. However, she remained professional, as she had done nothing wrong in the case currently being widely discussed.

"Okay, if you want to break the contract with me, that’s fine with me."

"Since you have already ordered hundreds of clothes from us, you have to pay us the costs first."

Edith clenched her fists tightly to control her anger. "Isn’t it clearly stated in the contract that payments are due at the beginning of each month? It’s only the third week now. You’re in such a hurry to ask me for payment."

"Because there are exceptions if one party wishes to terminate the contract. You should just follow me."

Edith laughed in annoyance heard those nonsense words. "I won’t pay you because you suddenly want to betray me. We’ve been working together for a long time, but you’re still betray me because of that hoax."

"Actually, I only believe a report that clearly proves you are the perpetrator. Especially considering the comparison between your work and Ariadne’s."

Edith took a deep breath to calm her increasingly unstable mental state. "I’ve always helped you indirectly, but you’re ungrateful. I’m the one who made your business successful."

"Anyway, I’ll wait for you for three days. If you don’t pay your bill within three days, I won’t just sit there."

"Okay. Once I pay you and it’s proven that I didn’t plagiarize, I won’t work with you anymore!"

Although Edith sounded confident and resolute while arguing with the boss, she was still afraid that if this continued, her boutique would go bankrupt. Hundreds of orders were suddenly canceled, many vendors wanted to break their contracts, and everyone was criticizing her. Experiencing such a big problem suddenly made her almost faint. Luckily, Callum immediately came to her and guided her to sit on the sofa.

Edith couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. She finally showed her fiancé her suffering instead of keeping it to herself. She let him embrace her tightly.

"Callum, why are you here?"

"Actually, I’m still really worried about you. That’s why I came here to make sure you were okay. But seeing how chaotic the boutique was, I couldn’t calm down."

"I’m sorry." Her cries grew louder, making Callum’s breath even more labored.

"Why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything wrong!"

"Callum..."

"For now, I want you to clear up all these misunderstandings. I know how to make them all trust you again."

"How can I do that? Now my reputation is ruined because of that hoax news."

Callum pulled out his phone and showed her a poster about a fashion show for evening gowns. "I want you to participate in this competition. I want you to prove that your design is not plagiarized."

"But will it work? I’m being criticized now and everyone is cursing me."

"Not if you can convey the true meaning of your design. If necessary, I’ll accompany you to your fashion show."

"Callum..."

"I trust you because I’ve always witnessed you painstakingly drawing your designs until dawn. Therefore, I don’t want your efforts to be in vain."

Tears of joy continued to flow down her cheeks. For a moment, she hugged her fiancé tightly and buried her head in his chest.

"Edith, why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?"

"No. I’m actually happy to hear what you said. I’ve never regretted choosing you as my life partner."

"If you had married Cliff, I’m sure he would have divorced you right away."

Edith laughed awkwardly, patting her chest lightly. "You’re still joking at a time like this."

"But that bastard definitely wouldn’t let you ruin his reputation. Luckily, I managed to steal you away from him."

"I definitely wouldn’t have survived. I’d probably be tortured by him, too, seeing his insane behavior every time his reputation was ruined."

"I will definitely support you and be by your side. You don’t need to be afraid of anything anymore."

"Callum, even though you just did an exclusive interview yesterday, you are not afraid that everyone will change your statement from yesterday."

Callum furrowed his brows and rested his chin on his hands. "I don’t really mind. The important thing is that I told the truth. I’d be furious if they bad-mouthed you in my interview."

"You’re too sweet in a tense situation like this."

"By the way, are you going to enter that competition?"

Edith nodded. "Of course. To restore my good name, the boutique, and you."

"Okay, since you’ve given me that answer, it’s time for me to pick up the kids."

"Let me come with you!"

*****

Because Callum had been so sweet when he comforted her earlier, Edith didn’t want him to pick up the kids alone. All the way to school, Edith refused to let go of her fiancé’s hand, which was making her heart flutter. Edith stared at his handsome face so intently that her eyes wouldn’t blink.

"I’d rather watch you than have you look at that weird article."

"Of course I would rather see you because you are so handsome."

Callum kissed the back of his fiancée’s hand for a moment. "You’re so cute now that you’re not crying anymore."

Upon arrival at school, they greeted their twins with beaming smiles and embraced them. In the midst of this warm family moment, Laura, with a serious expression, suddenly interrupted.

"Edith, Callum, can you talk to me after this?"
