Chapter 55: Reaping What You Sow

After dinner, Alex didn’t return to his dorms and was lurking in the shadows. Other students who were done with theirs began to return to their dorms, talking among themselves and oblivious to the fact that they were being watched.

Soon, Dante and his group left the dining hall and were heading back to their dorms but along the way, he suddenly stopped.

"What is the matter?" One of his friends asked him.

"I am pressed, you guys should go ahead, I’ll be back soon," Dante replied and made to leave but another of his friends stopped him.

"It’s only a short distance from the dorms, can’t you hold it in till we return?" He asked him.

"No, I can’t hold it in. I must rush," Dante replied and dashed off.

"Should we wait for him?" The boy asked the others. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"No, let’s go ahead," they replied and so they all left without waiting for their friend.

Meanwhile, Dante had run into a desolate part of the area to relieve himself and while he was doing that, he was unaware that someone was watching him until he was finally done relieving himself. He turned to leave but to his shock, he saw Alex standing by the corner with his back resting on a dwarf tree.

"W-what are you doing here?" He asked him with a stammer.

"I came because of you," Alex replied and then moved away from the tree. He walked towards him and when there was only a small gap between them, he stopped. "It’s time to reap what you sowed," he whispered close to him.

"What do you mean? What are you talking about?" The boy asked while staring at Alex in panic.

"This is what I mean," Alex replied and showed him the strands of hair.

"Are you still holding them?" The boy asked him seeming shocked that he was still holding the hair his blade cut out earlier.

"Or not?" Alex asked with a slight frown. "Did you think I’d let you off?"

"It’s only some strands of hair we are talking about. Or are you that petty?" Regaining his composure, the boy taunted Alex.

Alex saw that the boy didn’t show any remorse for what he did, and this made him believe that his next actions were justified.

Suddenly, his eyes glowed as he gazed at the boy. "Eat it!" He ordered him and the boy immediately collected the hair from him and began to stuff them inside his mouth. "Now, you’ll get to know how good it tastes," Alex muttered while watching the boy chew the hair.

Seeing that he was going to swallow the hair in the next second, Alex’s eyes returned to normal and so was the boy.

"How did that feel?" Alex asked him.

The boy threw out the chewed hair from his mouth and glared at Alex, he was not only angry but also scared of him because he couldn’t understand anything that happened to him some seconds ago.

"What did you do to me?" He demanded with an angry face.

"I used my ability on you," Alex replied.

"Bastard—" the boy cursed but Alex didn’t let him finish and grabbed his neck.

"I’m only merciful to you tonight because we are being watched. If you don’t respect yourself the next time you see me, I don’t guarantee that you will be alive after our encounter," Alex said before pushing him away and leaving the place. When he returned to his dorm, he saw Zeke lying on the bed with a book in his head. He had wanted to ignore him just like he did back at the dining hall but then his eyes caught the book he was reading and this made him angry. "Who told you that you could touch my stuff without my permission?" He asked him.

"Is this yours? Oh, I was wondering what a book that is talking about bloodlines doing in my room, I didn’t know it’s yours," Zeke replied and flung the book at him.

Alex caught the book and glared at him. "Whether it’s mine or not doesn’t matter to you. I’d advise you to mind your business," he said to the boy.

Zeke, finding it more interesting sat up and faced Alex who went over to his own bed. "Tell me, roommate, what is your ability? Since you are already aware of mine, wouldn’t it be fair to know yours too?" He asked him. Alex didn’t say a word so he went on. "I think I know what your ability is..." he said with a pause and smirked for the first time since they met. Alex glanced at him, saw the look on his face, and dropped the book to concentrate on him as he continued. "You are capable of reading people’s info with just a place if you want, right?" He asked him. "No... You are capable of forcing anyone to do what you want just like you did to that kid from your class, right? Which one is it?"

This was getting so interesting for Alex that he smirked. "So you finally admitted that it was you," he said to Zeke. "I was waiting for you to admit with your mouth that you are a lurker."

"It doesn’t matter if I followed you earlier and caught you trying to kill a student. What would you have done if I wasn’t there?" Zeke asked him with his lips curled up.

"The same thing I just did — walk away. Even if I wanted to kill him, it would not be in secret. I would kill him in the open, in the watchful gazes of all the students and teachers so that it would be set as an example to those who don’t like minding their businesses."

"Are you referring to me?" Zeke asked him with his brows raised.

"Can you do anything about it?" Alex asked him back with his brows raised as well. "I don’t like individuals who don’t mind their businesses, I hope you don’t try to pry into my personal life because if you do, I’m going to make you wish you never did."

"What are you going to do? Threats don’t work on me, I suppose you are aware of it after prying into my life...I am not as simple as you think," Zeke replied with a serious gaze.

Alex laughed inwardly and rubbed his forehead as if tired. "Okay, I have heard you," he said and laid down on the bed to sleep. "If I hear a word about me from anyone aside from you, I promise that you and your entire family will be gone," he said before closing his eyes to sleep.

---------

The next morning, the two boys didn’t say a word to each other and prepared for class. All through the entire class, Alex noticed that some of the students would occasionally turn to look at him before turning again and beginning to mumble among themselves, he also noticed that Dante kept on a happy face as this went on, it was obvious that he was aware of what was going on. Alex didn’t like it one bit but chose not to react, he had decided to wait for the teacher to leave the class.

When finally the female teacher left, the students couldn’t hold it in anymore and began to talk.

"I can’t believe he almost killed Dante yesterday," one of them said.

"How did you guys know?" Another asked the reporter.

"Eyewitnesses said they saw him dragging Dante to a secret place to kill him but because he realized that he was being followed, he didn’t succeed and left him," the reporter replied.

"That’s terrible!" One of them spat.

"He’s horrible, it makes me wonder what he might have done in his old school to have caused him to change schools in the middle of the term," another one said.

"Perhaps he killed everyone in the school!" Another yelled and everyone burst out and began to laugh. As they laughed, Dante stood up from where he was sitting and approached Alex.

"How does this feel?" He asked Alex with his lips curled up but this was the biggest mistake of his life.

Without replying to him, Alex caught his face in his hand and slammed his head on the desk before him. Both the boy and Alex’s desk fell to the ground and all the students abruptly backed away in fright.

It wasn’t enough to kill him and Alex was aware so he lowered himself and pulled the boy up by dragging him on his hair, he stood up, and the boy’s legs were dangling in the air.

"Let me go!" He grunted while struggling.

"I warned you but you failed to listen, this is what you get when your stupidity doesn’t allow you to think properly," Alex said to him and punched him in the face. The boy yelled and tried to escape from his hold but couldn’t, because Alex wasn’t done with him yet.

He continued to punch him in his face while everyone watched in fright, no one wanted to interfere because they lacked the courage to do so, even the friends of the boy couldn’t do anything to save their friend. It was only a student from the outside who ran and called for a teacher’s help but before the teacher could come, the boy’s face had been disfigured already.
