Chapter 132: Past ranking list

The briefing that the vice dean had given the students was simply explaining how the tournament would be held. During the tournament, each academy would be represented by five of its students who would participate in the two modes of the tournament.

The two modes of the tournament were the team mode and the solo mode. The team mode was where teams of four students from each academy would compete against teams from other academies. Points were issued to the winning teams, which were used to rank them.

The solo mode was self-explanatory; it was a 1v1 between students of different Magic Academies.

For the five students from the Dragonic Magic Academy, Alex had been chosen for the solo mode of the tournament while Glen and the others would participate in the team mode as a team.

Alex was perfectly fine with this arrangement as he didn’t want to fight alongside the others either, he preferred to work alone.

The academy had also taken a few things into consideration before selecting Alex to represent in the solo mode. He had the rare space element which was very difficult to counter.

Plus, the solo mode offered more points during the first round of the tournament and could literally carry the others to the next round.

Outside the academy, several long buses had been prepared to take the students to the venue of the tournament. This was only a one-time thing; the students would have to find their way to the venue for the remaining days of the tournament.

Alex and the others who were participating in the tournament entered the same bus with the teachers and the vice dean, while the other students filled the remaining buses; their excited voices could be heard even from where Alex was seated.

The buses moved out after all of the students had entered and drove into the heart of Balon City. Several minutes later, they arrived at the venue.

A gigantic stadium that was located in the centre of the City, outside of the stadium, was bustling as countless people, cars, and buses could be seen everywhere.

People in casual clothes and academic uniforms went into the stadium in groups. Union officers were stationed at the various entry points of the stadium and acted as coordinators, making sure that people entered the stadium in an orderly manner and did not cause chaos.

Through the window of the bus, Alex could see lots of students from other magic academies in their various uniforms as well as their teachers.

Many of them had serious expressions mixed with nervousness while others had excited faces, their youthful eyes gleaming with anticipation for the tournament.

A slight smile formed on the corner of Alex’s lips as he retracted his gaze.

Due to the number of people present outside the stadium, most of the parking spaces outside the venue had been occupied by different vehicles. It took some time for the buses of the Dragonic Magic Academy to find free parking spots.

After the buses parked, everyone came down and gathered around their teachers.

Teacher Christi was in charge of leading the students into the venue. Every Magic Academy had its assigned sitting area inside the stadium during the period of the tournament, where its students and teachers would sit during the tournament.

Teacher Christi asked the students to follow her so that they wouldn’t end up in another academy’s sitting area.

The students nodded and followed teacher Christi toward the stadium, and the other teachers and the vice dean followed behind them.

They met the Union officers stationed at that entrance and introduced themselves as the Dragonic Magic Academy before entering the stadium.

As they entered the stadium under the lead of teacher Christi, a wave of whispers and murmurs washed over them.

Alex’s eyes flashed when he stepped into the stadium. The inside was massive, several times larger than the biggest football stadium in his previous world.

Towering spectators stand rise high in tiers, encircling the arena like a towering fortress of stone and metal, filled with members of various magic academies and people who had come to watch the tournament; there were easily over four million people present, and their murmuring voices were like chaotic chants that filled the stadium.

In the center of the stadium, an arena that was a hundred meters long and fifty meters wide floated a few centimetres above the ground, a faint glowing barrier surrounding it.

It was the fighting stage!

Above the fighting stage, several projection orbs drifted in the air, ready to capture every moment of the forthcoming matches and project them to the entire stadium.

Union officers patrolled the inner perimeters of the stadium, some chatted with representatives of various magic academies while others kept watchful eyes on the crowd.

The air in the stadium was mixed with anticipation and tension; it was the All-Academy Star Tournament after all.

The students of the Dragonic Magic Academy were dazed by the sight. Despite the size of their group, they didn’t draw any attention to themselves as more people streamed into the stadium in similar and even larger groups!

"Don’t stop." Teacher Christi’s voice sounded in their ears as she continued to walk. She headed for one of the stairs in the corner and ascended the spectators’ stand, and the students hurriedly followed.

They soon reached the waiting area designated for the members of the Dragonic Magic Academy, and all of them sat down. The students chatted amongst themselves excitedly while looking around, they could see people from other Magic Academies sitting not far from them.

Meanwhile, Alex’s eyes scanned the millions of people in the stadium. It didn’t take him long to spot some familiar faces.

The Archmage and the two younglings with him. The three of them sat on the highest level of the spectators’ stand. However, Alex saw that they weren’t alone. A few others were also sitting on the same level as well, and all of their ranks were between the Expert mage rank and the Master mage rank.

Alex guessed that they were the representatives from other magic universities who had also come to observe the talent of the students who were participating in the tournament.

He retracted his gaze and began to search the crowd again. He soon found more familiar faces, members of the Rising Wave group, the principal of Emily’s school, and other explorers whom he had seen once.

Alex also spotted Laura, he was surprised to find her in the sitting area of another magic academy.

Laura transferred to a different academy?! This discovery was unexpected but Alex soon had a smirk on his face. Since Laura was now a part of a different academy, then they could still face each other.

He just hoped that she was participating and was also in the solo mode.

Time passed as more people entered the stadium and occupied the seats in the spectators’ stands. Soon, everywhere was filled, and no one else was allowed entry; those who were still outside by this time would have to watch the tournament through the broadcast.

At this moment, a figure appeared in the arena. It was Clint, the leader of the Balon City Union branch. He wore a black leather jacket and long brown pants.

Alex wasn’t surprised at the man’s outfit since he was dressed like this most of the time.

The entire stadium instantly quieted down at the appearance of Clint, all eyes focused on him. After seeing that he had gotten everyone’s attention, branch leader Clint gave a slight nod before clearing his throat and speaking.

"Many of you should know me. I’m the leader of the Union branch of this City and I welcome you all to this year’s all-academy star tournament!

As always, let’s first take a look at the result of the last tournament from two years ago."

With the sound of Clint’s voice, a gigantic holographic projection appeared in the air of the arena.

On it was the ranking list of the magic academies in the last tournament.

Everyone’s eyes were instantly fixed on the projection after it appeared. On it were the names of twenty-seven magic academies; these were the number of magic academies in Balon City.

Alex looked at the projection as well. In first place was a magic academy named "Sacred City Magic Academy".

In second place was a "Golden Element Magic Academy ".

Third place, "Blue Void Magic Academy."

Alex continued to check the ranking list before he finally found the name of the Dragonic Magic Academy, which was ranked 20th, only higher than seven other Magic Academies.

The Dragonic Magic Academy was one of the worst academies in Balon City!

Alex "..."

’They are a trashy academy but dared to bully the former Alex as a trash mage, how shameless.’

Alex clicked his tongue silently.

"As you can all see, our ranking in the previous tournament wasn’t too good. We’re hoping for a better result this year, the reputation of the academy is in your hands." The vice dean spoke out without looking at the students, her eyes fixed on the gigantic ranking projection.

After a minute, Clint’s voice sounded again.

"Now, for the bracket line-up for the first round of the tournament!"
