Betrayed by Blood, Claimed by the Alpha-Chapter 190
Chapter 190: Chapter 190
Chapter 190
"This is it, Alpha," the warrior said, stopping in front of the cave. Callum had managed to escape through this cave. It had been abandoned and sealed for years, with not even a bird passing through. Cain stepped closer, studying the cracked walls. Callum had been planning this for a while.
"And this was just discovered? That’s why no one saw him use the borders."
"Have the men go out and patrol the grounds, although I doubt he’s still anywhere nearby. He’s far gone."
"Alpha," another warrior called out, rushing towards him with his hand outstretched. "I found this. I think he used this to escape."
"Coal? What would he need coal for?" Nathan asked.
"To mask scents. Judging by the size of the wall he took down, he wasn’t alone. Someone helped him. The question is, who is Callum working for now?"
Cain turned to leave...he had little time to work with. "Gather the warriors now. I’m having a brief meeting with them."
In seconds, they had all gathered. "There is no room for mistake. Anyone who cannot adhere or understand should speak up now. I will not forgive even the slightest mistake." The map of the entire region on the table was meticulously laid out. The warriors had all gathered around, discussing the next phase. Cain’s eyes darted over the plans, his mind a machine, just like it’s been since Avery’s disappearance.
"Team one goes to the north and waits until there’s news from the south, and only then will we proceed. East and west will do exactly as instructed. Xander will lead the first team, and Nathan will lead the second. Lydia and I will take on the two."
"Understood, Alpha. And what should the last team do?" Xander asked.
Cain clenched his jaw just thinking about it. "The last team is to patrol the border tightly. Everything has to be cross-checked." He said. He knew Callum took Avery, but why?
He had already raided Callum’s home, torn the entire place apart for something, but of course, the bastard covered his tracks so well. Not even a scent was found. It was like he and Avery disappeared. They had spent the entire day in the woods searching, but there was not much to work with when there was no scent. Cain had tried connecting with the mate bond, and even that was useless. For the first time in his life, he felt powerless.
He ran his hand through his hair frustratedly. A day had gone by already, and there was no clue. Whoever it was had no place in his room right now. A warrior was already rushing towards the door to send the person off. If they didn’t want their head torn off, then they better be on their way.
Cain continued addressing the warriors, not paying mind to the door. He glanced up once, seeing the warrior still standing by the door and clearly talking to whoever was there.
"Who the fuck is that?" He growled out, and the warrior froze. He turned around, "Alpha, it’s the Luna’s maid. She insists on seeing you."
The door creaked open, and Selena stepped in hesitantly, her form almost shrinking against the doorway. She flinched, eyes wide as if she had stepped into a lion’s den. She swallowed hard, "A-Alpha.." she stammered.
"Leave," he barked out.
She flinched hard, but to his irritation, she didn’t move. Instead, she stood there, sweating harder than ever while trembling.
Lydia, who had been standing by the table, watching, folded her arms. "Alpha," she said evenly, "maybe you should hear her out."
Cain snapped his gaze towards the beta. "And why the fuck would I do that?"
Selena shifted uncomfortably. Her gaze darting to the floor. She looked as though she wanted to disappear into the floor. Lydia, however, didn’t back down.
"She’s shaking," Lydia pointed out. "She’s clearly terrified. And she wouldn’t come here if it wasn’t important. Just hear her out."
Cain let out a breath. He didn’t have time for this. Every second wasted in this room was another second Avery was gone.
"Whatever this is. It better be worth my time. If you so much as waste my time. I’ll wring that head of yours off. You have five minutes. Speak!"
The warriors took that as a dismissal. They stepped out quickly, not wanting to be caught in Cain’s wrath when his patience was this thin. He was acting like a maniac. The door shut behind them, leaving Cain, Lydia, Xander, Nathan, and Selena in the room.
Cain turned to Selena, "Well?"
Selena swallowed hard. She hesitated...too long for Cain’s liking. He was about to tell her to get the fuck out when she finally spoke.
"I—I know where the Luna is."
A suffocating silence filled the room. Lydia’s breath caught. Xander stiffened. But Cain—Cain didn’t move. His entire body went still, as if the words had frozen him in place.
Then, in a blink, he was in front of her.
The table scraped against the floor as he moved. Selena gasped, stumbling back, but Cain caught her wrist in a tight grip, dragging her forward. His face was unreadable, his eyes burning into hers.
"Say that again," he ordered.
Selena was trembling harder than ever now. "I-I might know where Avery is."
"Where?" He demanded, his voice cracking with rage.
Selena started to sob, "She’s being held by King Alaric. I—I don’t know the exact location, but he has her. And..."
Cain’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Alaric? And how do you know this? How sure are you of this?"
At this, she lowered her head, full-on sobbing now. "I know because I- I was sent here by him." Selena didn’t dare glance at Lydia. "I- I didn’t want to, but he threatened me. He has my brother and threatened to kill him if I didn’t come here. He made me spy on you. He made me tell him about Avery. About her powers. I- I had no choice."
Cain’s grip on Selena’s wrist tightened until her breath hitched, until her knees buckled, until the bones beneath his fingers almost snapped.
"You’ve been feeding him information? About me? About Avery? Your friend?"
Selena choked on a sob, clawing at his fingers. "I-I had no choice—! H-He has my brother..h-he would kill him."
Cain’s free hand shot out, gripping her throat and slamming her against the wall so hard that the entire room shook. Selena gagged, her feet dangling from the floor as Cain lifted her, his fingers tightening around her throat.
"No choice?" Cain snarled. His wolf was close, too close. "You sold out your Luna. You fed that bastard information about her powers. You put her in his hands and you think I give a fuck about your excuses?"
Selena clawed at his wrist, struggling, kicking, her eyes wild with horror. "P-please—"
Cain slammed her into the wall again, harder this time. Selena’s head snapped back, a pained whimper escaping her lips. Blood trickled from her nose.
"You fucking dare to beg?" Cain growled. His fangs out, his eyes glowing pure red, "You dare to cry? Where were your fucking tears when you sold my mate’s secrets to that bastard?"
Selena’s body convulsed, her face turning red, her hands growing weaker against his.
Nathan shifted uncomfortably. "Alpha—"
"Say one fucking word, and I’ll rip your throat out too. I’m begging you to try me." Cain snarled.
Nathan shut up.
Cain turned back to Selena. He wanted to snap her neck, tear her apart, shred her limb from limb for what she had done.
And he almost did. His fingers twitched, his body coiled, his wolf growled for blood.
But a single thought stopped him. Avery was still out there. Alone. Helpless. In Alaric’s hands.
Selena’s death should hold out for a little more time. Now, she knew things. She knew where Avery was, or at least something that could lead him to her.
Cain’s grip loosened...just enough for Selena to gasp, her body sagging, trembling.
"You’re going to tell me everything."
He then glanced at Lydia. "Get the warriors ready." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Lydia stepped forward, "Alpha, shouldn’t we—"
"There is nothing to think about. She will lead us to him." he said, "Alaric has my mate." He glanced at Lydia over his shoulder.
"And I’m going to tear his fucking heart out."
