Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 235: Family talk (1)
Chapter 235: Family talk (1)
"You’ll come around to my plan at some point. I will speak to my aunt, but you will owe me for this. I might have to break her tiny heart."
"You don’t have to break it. Should we wait for your grandfather to arrive to know why he invited her? Wait, did he even know your mother is staying with us?" Selene realised another problem.
"He might not know, but it was still rude of him to invite someone without asking us. It sounds like we have more guests, so we can ask him now," Xavier said, holding Selene’s hand so they could walk together and to calm her.
"I will respectfully kick them out if needed," Xavier offered.
"I don’t believe anything you might do to get them out will be respectful. I know you too well," Selene replied.
Selene became even more nervous when she finally spotted Orlork Blackthorn. He was dressed in very casual attire, as though this was his home and he wasn’t out for dinner. He looked quite young for someone who was a grandfather.
Behind him was a man dressed as a servant and a woman who resembled Orlork. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"Hasn’t anyone told you it isn’t polite to show up with a guest who wasn’t invited? Recently waking up isn’t a good excuse," Xavier said, looking at his aunt, who somehow made it inside.
"I didn’t know I wasn’t invited by you. He said that I was welcomed," Camilla said, turning to her father for answers. "Had I known you didn’t invite me, I wouldn’t have come."
"She’s family," Orlork answered.
"I get a lot of our family at my doors, but that doesn’t mean I welcome them inside. While I like my aunt, she was at the gates with my father before. I don’t know if I can trust you around Selene yet," Xavier explained.
Camilla inspected the woman who had caused such a mess among the Blackthorns. "I came here back then because I wanted to see who you got married to. I won’t cause trouble."
"I want to believe that, but there is also another reason why you can’t stay. My mother is here, and when she sees you, we both know how that will go," said Xavier, hoping Camilla understood the issue.
Camilla frowned. Had she also known Josephine was here, she wouldn’t have shown up. This was starting to feel like an ambush.
"Is Nathaniel going to show up as well? How many more surprises must I face? I am going to leave," Camilla announced. She didn’t have the patience to deal with this.
Orlork grabbed Camilla’s arm to stop her from leaving. "I am sorry."
Had he known Josephine was present, he wouldn’t have invited Camilla along. He had much to make up for with Camilla, so Orlork thought a family dinner, which was rare for them, might be a good start.
"What for? You have so much to apologise for. Why did you think inviting me here where that woman is-"
"That woman?" Josephine repeated as she came down the stairs. "I hope she isn’t referring to me or Selene. What is this? I thought we were only having Orlork over."
"I thought you would be with my son," said Orlork, needing answers to Josephine’s presence here.
Jasper stood silently behind Orlork as it dawned on him now that he had forgotten to share the complete state of Nathaniel’s marriage.
"I am taking a break from Nathaniel since he was so obsessed with Xavier’s marriage. I couldn’t get him to stay at my side, and without my knowledge, he gathered everyone. Including your daughter," Josephine said, staring at Camilla as she spoke.
Josephine hated the smile Camilla wore now as though she was happy there was a chance the marriage would be over. "If I didn’t have fangs, I wouldn’t smile so much. How is your marriage going, Camilla? Did you end up marrying that man, or did you spend your life worrying about me?
’Oh no,’ Selene sighed.
"Why would I waste my time thinking about you? What I said would happen ended up happening. Did it not? Nathaniel came to his senses and realised he shouldn’t have married you," Camilla replied.
"Our marriage isn’t over yet and you have more problems to be concerned about. If you had left me alone back then, I could have helped you. Now look at you. You’re an eyesore," Josephine said, looking away from Camilla to protect her eyes.
"I think the food is ready and there are wines everyone might enjoy along with blood. I think I should have a drink," Selene mumbled.
It seemed like the perfect time to start drinking since this wasn’t going as she had planned it.
Xavier let go of Selene’s hand so she could get away from the mess he had to fix.
Xavier watched Selene and then turned back to the people who were disturbing his time. "While I would like to see you fight each other, you are ruining Selene’s day, which means you are also ruining mine. You don’t want to ruin my day. You will end up in a dungeon if you do."
Orlork chuckled, humored by Xavier thinking he could put him in the dungeon.
Xavier looked at Orlork, wanting in on the joke. "Did I say something funny? I’m in the mood to decorate the dungeon with royals."
"You’re a cocky little bastard," said Orlork.
"I’ve been quite successful backing up what I say, so be careful. You might regret waking up if you ruin this moment. I am not my father," Xavier reminded Orlork.
"What about me? Am I to leave?" Camilla asked. She was more than happy to leave a moment ago, but she didn’t like Josephine thinking she had won.
"I’m not going to send my mother away. Decide amongst yourselves if you can get along for one day or if you need to part. I am serious about the dungeon," said Xavier.
Xavier left the group to find Selene before she could gain his mother’s interest in drinking. While he wanted everyone to leave, Selene had put a lot of time and effort into this, so it had to go well.
"Jasper, come along," Orlork said, following Xavier to find his wife. "They will figure this out."
Josephine couldn’t believe the others didn’t send Camilla out, but she would gladly do it. "You were foolish to show up here at my son’s doors. He is the child of the mother you hate so much."
"I hate you, but that doesn’t mean I hate Xavier. I adore him since he creates so much trouble in this family. It is you that I dislike, and you’ve known it has always been you," said Camilla.
"I didn’t do anything for you to hate me. I stayed out of the way when you and Nathaniel didn’t get along, yet you pulled me into it," Josephine said, wanting Camilla to apologise for her actions.
"You enjoyed every bit of my father breaking my fangs. You were right there cheering him on. I haven’t forgotten any of that," Camilla said, refusing to be painted the only bad guy.
"I did enjoy it," Josephine admitted. "You lashed out at me first, so I enjoyed it when you got your punishment. You tried to get the others to be against our marriage, and then you wouldn’t give me a break while I was pregnant with your nephew."
"You hated that your brother got the freedom to pick who he wanted to be with, so you took it out on me. Admit it," Josephine said, waiting for Camilla to be honest.
