Chapter 297: Regret (2)

"Are you certain you want to do this? There is no coming back from this once you kill him. His family will forever be after the one who killed him while he rested. They are quite good at hunting," Orlork said.

Orlork managed to take Ragnar and Camilla to his home, but Nathaniel was the only stubborn one to not listen.

Rather than argue with Nathaniel, Orlork left in search of Zephyr and found him killing the men from the court.

"You may go be with your grandson," Zephyr said, uninterested in Orlork’s warnings.

Zephyr knew very well that this was merely the beginning. He knew that and still wished to proceed since he could not let anyone who went after his daughter live.

"Would you leave him if he tried to kill your daughter?" Zephyr asked. "Seraphina is one of the few precious things I have in this world, and they tried to take her from me all because they were curious."

Orlork paid close attention to how Zephyr spoke. Zephyr spoke as if his daughter were alive and well.

"He would have been dead from the moment he said her name. Camilla would have gotten to him before I did. I am not going to stop you from avenging your daughter. I am only telling you that you might need to be careful with your tracks," said Orlork.

Truthfully, Orlork looked forward to Zephyr killing the former king since he was just as much of a bastard as his son.

"We are family now, so I will help you, but we must be quick. We have our grandchildren to return to. Many will target them both. The king wants Selene," Orlork shared.

Zephyr planned to find the little king to kill him along with his father.

Orlork inspected the shiny weapon Zephyr held in his hand. "I have never seen one made into a sword. Tell me, where did you get this holy weapon? It seems everyone but me has one."

"I have travelled all across the kingdom, so I have met humans with many kinds of weapons. I took it from them," Zephyr said.

Orlork did not believe that was how the story went. "And were they breathing after you took it from them? Certainly, they didn’t just let you take it peacefully unless you had somehow made friends with humans."

"They were using it to harm their kind, and I have made friends with some humans, but they have long passed. There are some wise ones around the kingdom that I have had good conversations with. Your king was foolish to attack them," said Zephyr.

"My king? I have never thought of that boy as my king. There is no king in my eyes. We all rule the palace and the kingdom. Now that Selene is married to Xavier, she is also a royal. You do not need to worry about her coming here since Xavier will protect her," said Orlork.

"I do not need him to protect her. I will always be around to protect her," Zephyr said, wanting to avoid what Selene experienced the first time.

Zephyr would never leave her side again once he was reunited with her.

"Well, it is expected of her grandfather, but I hope you do not intend to act like Xavier cannot protect her. He’s doing a fine job of it. Try not to get involved in their matters. I think it is rare for us to find love among our kind. Love that lasts. It is this way," Orlork said, leading Zephyr on the right path to the coffins.

Orlork continued, "We live for a long time, so eventually we get bored with the people around us. Love isn’t something most of us need, but those who find it. Those who truly found love seek to protect it."

"I have no time for this," Zephyr said, annoyed by Orlork speaking of love. Most times, he thought Orlork rambled on and on about nothing.

’Stop!" Guards ordered the pair. They pointed their weapons, ready for a fight.

Orlork stepped forward. "It seems like you do not know who I am. This is my home, yet you insult me by pointing these useless weapons at me," he said, touching the sword.

The guards looked at each other. They knew well that the vampire before them wasn’t just any pureblood vampire but Orlork Blackthorn, a man they should not upset. Unfortunately, they had strict orders from the king that no one was to enter the royal chamber where the king’s family laid.

"You will need permission from the king to enter. It is his order."

Orlork smiled, amused by the order and the trembling hands which held the swords. "I am in a good mood. You may die here, or you may run. You have until the count of three to decide. One."

The guards dropped their weapons and started to run. How were they to protect the chamber from Orlork when the king himself wouldn’t be able to do it?

Zephyr was not pleased to see Orlork let the guards leave to tell others of their visit here. "Your name will be brought up now," he said.

"No, it won’t. You must start trusting me," Orlork said, opening the door of the chamber. He listened closely to the sound of the guards who had run, dropping to the ground.

They were still alive, but unable to run.

The chamber they entered was where Orlork could have chosen to rest until it was time for him to wake, but seeing the lack of guards to protect the former king, Orlork had chosen right to use his home.

Zephyr closed the door behind them and searched for the man he was after. Inside the room were Darius’s mother, father, and other relatives who had a set time to be woken up.

"It is this one," Orlork said, pointing out the coffin for Zephyr.

Zephyr approached the white coffin and immediately opened it to find Dorian Nox, the king who was once obsessed with finding out what secrets Seraphina had. It angered him to see Dorian sleeping so peacefully like this after all that he had done.

"You must be quick," said Orlork. "He will wake soon."

"That is what I want," Zephyr said, positioning the sword to be ready for when Dorian opened his eyes.

Zephyr wanted Dorian to know who had come to kill him.

Orlork noticed Dorian’s hands move, and not long after, his eyes started to flutter open. He locked eyes with Dorian, who wasn’t pleased to see him.

"Orkork. Why are you here?" Dorian asked, puzzled by a Blackthorn standing in his chamber.

Dorian laid still, unable to move as his body started to wake up. What had Darius done to allow a Blackthorn to enter this room?

Dorian had other questions when he finally noticed the blade above him. He looked to his right at the man standing beside him. "You!" He panicked, recognising Zephyr. "Guards!" He yelled.
