Chapter 316: Fixing past mistakes (1)

"That was an interesting meeting. Somehow, none of the extra votes I slipped in for you to be king were counted, but I am pleased with the outcome. Victor is not," Orlork said, enjoying the little outburst from Vivienne’s father.

Orlork looked around at the other unhappy families walking out of the room where they gathered. "They are only now starting to look for the princess. How didn’t her brother notice she was missing? Do you think she will return to the palace?"

"No," Xavier replied.

Morgana had found her forever home.

"Why are you following me?" Xavier asked, stopping so Orlork couldn’t follow him. "Selene and I will be very busy today, so we will not have time to entertain you. Don’t show up."

"I am only walking out with you. I have somewhere that I promised to take Jasper, and before that, I have to see your aunt. It is time for us to have a proper conversation. Must you act like you hate me? I was your beloved grandfather who helped you," said Orlork.

"I do not hate you. I hate that you show up at the wrong time. Selene and I will invite you over, so you do not need to show up unannounced. We are married, and with the town being quiet now, we want to enjoy ourselves," Xavier explained.

"I am a married man, so I know what you want. I didn’t think you would be busy at all hours of the day when I want to see you both," Orlork said, but he would keep his distance for a while.

Orlork was at the top of the Blackthorns, waiting for news of Xavier having a child. He needed to know if his lineage was getting stronger or if Xavier was just a rare case.

"I want to see my grandmother," Xavier said, getting the reaction he wanted as Orlork left his side.

Orlork took off for the home Camilla owned. He knew of it thanks to Jasper keeping watch of his children.

Orlork landed by the front door and looked around to see how many guards Camilla had, but there were very few. As a Blackthorn, she should have many guards and servants at her side.

Orlork knocked to be off to a good start.

The door was opened by Ragnar, who had come to visit Camilla.

"Father," Ragnar said, surprised. Camilla had not told him there would be a guest. "Come in."

"You’ve come to spend the day with your sister. How kind of you," Orlork said as he stepped in. "I can be satisfied with two of my children acting like they have sense. Where is your sister?"

"Packing her things," Ragnar answered.

"Why? Her family is here," Orlork said, not pleased to hear this.

"Because after I had my fangs broken, I was placed in a home far from here so I could not embarrass my family with my terrible state. I only returned because your precious son sent for me. Now it is time to go," Camilla said, walking toward the front door to send her father off.

"You do not need to return. Your home is here. No, your place is in the family home that your mother and I built," said Orlork.

Camilla laughed. "I never had permission to enter there since Nathaniel took over. He was afraid that I might wake you or our grandfather. Why would I do that when I am such a disappointment to you?"

"Camilla-"

"Don’t walk in here and act like you care all of a sudden. Nathaniel has always been your pride and joy, while I was tossed to the side with Ragnar. I am lucky to have one brother who also acts like a father. Leave," Camilla said, not wanting to speak.

Camilla had her mind made up to leave. It was going around now that humans were doing something to vampires to make them lose themselves. The cause of it wasn’t found yet, but Camilla was certain it was tied to the stories of demons in the town.

"I am sorry that I took something so important from you. I owe you a thousand apologies. I shouldn’t have put you through that. I acted too fast and waited too long to correct my wrongdoings. I am sorry," Orlork apologised.

"You are only apologising because Nathaniel has failed you. Nathaniel brought you those stories of how I attacked humans and vampires. Neither of you tried to listen to what I had to say. Don’t come apologising now that Nathaniel failed," Camilla said, seeing through her father’s apologies.

"This has nothing to do with Nathaniel. I know that my actions were wrong, and I would rather not go on with you not speaking to me. It was either to kill you or to break your fangs. I would not have my father kill my only daughter," Orlork revealed.

"What?" Camilla frowned.

This was the first she was to hear of her grandfather’s involvement.

"Grandfather said nothing back then. He left it in your hands," Camilla said, not falling for her father’s trick. "Do not try to pass the blame onto someone who is not here to speak. If what you say is true, then let us wake him to have him confirm it."

"I am not passing all the blame to your grandfather. I was wrong to go through with breaking your fangs and not listening to your claims that someone had done something to you, but I am also telling you the full story now," said Orlork.

In the past, Orlork needed to act fast to keep Camilla alive, so he ignored what she said and broke her fangs. Hearing what happened to Camilla was also happening to other vampires filled him with even more guilt.

"I know that I have done wrong. I should have protected you then. As for your grandfather, we cannot wake him. He intends to go to war should he ever wake. That war would be against the other four families," Orlork revealed.

"Is he mad?" Ragnar wondered.

A war amongst the five families would be dangerous. The others would join to fight against the Blackthorns as one, and rightfully so.

"Your grandfather is never to be woken up for all our sakes. I am tired of war and regret that we are no longer as close as we once were," Orlork said to Camilla. "I would do anything to make it up to you."

"You should break Nathaniel’s fangs," Camilla quickly responded.

Nathaniel was the one who enjoyed her losing her fangs the most. He should know what it was like to be mocked.

"I was the one who broke them therefore, I should break mine," Orlork suggested.
