Beyond the Apocalypse-Chapter 83: The last fight (I)
Chapter 83: The last fight (I)
Arabus, driven by his thirst for revenge, was ascending the treacherous mountain path at maximum speed. Although his body was marred by wounds from the lightning strike and the fall, it was still full of strength and power. Despite the pain, his determination to reach the peak and exact his vengeance remained unyielding.
The Abyssal observed Vlad and the soldiers maneuvering past the walls, sneering in disdain. The demon acknowledged the challenging terrain, but the walls were mere amusement to him, a trivial obstacle in his path.
While the walls of the Silent Wind Military Base could help against a small horde, they were less than seven meters tall. Arabus and the Champion demons could jump that with ease, and the demonic beasts could easily climb over them.
However, just as the Abyssal was imagining how he would shatter the bodies of everybody inside the military base, he heard a voice, the same voice that triggered the landslide and the mud.
"Mages! Battle Tactic 3! NOW!"
Just as Arabus was trying to figure out what would come next, he saw rocks falling from the sky.
"Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!"
Arabus could not help but freeze his march as he saw a dozen massive rocks falling from the sky. They crushed some weak demonic beasts that were too slow to move, but they killed less than ten. Such tactics were stupid, as they barely made a dent in the demonic horde.
However, the next second, the massive rocks, seemingly harmless, began to emit a faint glow. A mix of surprise and anger flickered in Arasbus’ eyes as he perceived their true power. "Good dammit!"
"BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!"
The rocks that had fallen from the sky and barely harmed a few demonic beasts exploded, creating a powerful shockwave and spraying large debris in all directions. The fall of each rock could hardly take down a demonic beast, yet their explosion killed all those close to the blast core and wounded dozens more!
General Anglius was seeing everything from the top of the wall, and even with his training and sharp mentality, he could not help but show a broad smile and feel a sense of pure thrill coursing through his heart.
His eyes then turned to the dozens of catapults positioned inside the Silent Wind Military Base, away from sight but in the perfect position to throw rocks onto the mountain’s path.
Catapults were tools of the ancient ages. They were not really used anymore and were only seen in museums, yet things had changed. These siege weapons did not use electricity or any high-end technology, so they were not affected by the changes in the laws of physics.
It took a lot of effort, and they used all the trees close to the military base to make them. Of course, a siege weapon like a catapult was useless against an incoming army, but that was in the past since now they had magic!
The soldiers put the massive rocks in the catapults, and the next second, the Mages who had been recovering their energy put their hands on them. Each Mage began to chant spells, which helped them guide their Magic and make it flow more easily.
The spells the Mages were charging was known as Boulder Bomb. It was a simple Mortal Tier Spell that could transform and charge a mass of earth or rocks with explosive energy.
While easy, the spell was not very useful since charging the rock with explosive energy still left the task of sending it to the enemy. Usually, Mages would make them roll downhill, but most would explode on the way. However, by combining the spell with the catapults, they managed to create a weapon that was no less powerful than high-level military mortars!
The middle-aged General could not help but glance at the young man who came up with this idea but did not dare to lose focus. Once all the rocks were charged with the Boulder Bomb spells, he sent the signal. "Fire. Now!"
Once more, the catapults acted, sending a dozen massive boulders to the incoming demonic horde.
Arabus saw the massive boulders coming at the horde again, but this time, he did not simply stand looking at them. The Abyssal took a large rock from the ground and threw it with all his strength, intercepting one of the massive rocks before it could land.
"BOOM!"
The rock exploded in the air, saving the demonic horde from the shockwave explosion. Still, by exploding so high, it allowed the sharp debris to expand over a much larger territory, leaving nearly fifty demons with bleeding wounds.
Arabus saw that, and his rage only increased. His interception saved some lives but increased the number of injuries, so in the end, there was no real net gain.
"Hurry up. Faster, faster, faster!" In the end, the Abyssal could only shout in rage, urging the demons to move forward while explosions echoed around them. The only path left was to reach the military base, where those tools would no longer work, and a melee battle could begin.
" Fire. Now!" "Fire. Now!" "Fire. Now!" "Fire. Now!" "Fire. Now!" General Anglius repeated the command over and over, not wasting a single second, guiding the soldiers and Mages with extreme proficiency.
There was a cold light in General Anglius’ eyes as a torrent of Origin Force coursed into his body. While he was not the killer, he guided the troops, so he took a portion of the golden energy and flawlessly fused it all into his body.
The exploding rocks killed hundreds of demonic beasts and wounded thousands of them, but through their constant advance, they finally reached the peak of the mountain and were ready to march into the Silent Wind Military Base.
A sharp light appeared in the middle-aged General’s eyes as he saw the demonic horde and did not hesitate before jumping out of the walls and vanishing into the military base.
Arabus saw that the wall was empty, but he could detect the presence of hundreds of life forms inside the military base, so he kept shouting at his demons to march. "Faster, I said!"
Finally, the Abyssal demon reached the peak of the south wall as the demonic horde was advancing through it, and his eyes immediately went to the group of people standing two hundred meters away behind large metallic shields.
A sharp light appeared in the Abyssal demon’s eyes as he saw all the humans able to keep their composure in the face of such a massive army of demonic beasts, and then his eyes turned to the young man who had become the bane of his existence.
Vlad glanced at the Abyssal demon with a smile, and as he saw the thousands of demons already packed the wall, he raised his right hand.
Arabus’ eyes widened as he saw the rune in the human’s right hand, and his eyes immediately went to the ground beneath him as he noticed the land was fresh.
"You bastard," the Abyssal demon uttered those words right before the ground around the wall began to glow due to the runes in the hundreds of demonic corpses that had been buried in that place.
"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!"
