"Thanks for cleaning up, Mira," Jamie said as soon as he appeared in the large reception room, carrying the unconscious Daniella in his arms and setting her down on one of the sofa beds nearby.
Once he did that, he turned to the others. "Take a seat, everyone."
Looking directly at Angela, who was giving him a suspicious glare, he added, "You too, Angela. Your kids have a lot to ask you. They did find your secret lab, after all."
"!"
Angela’s eyes widened slightly, disbelief written clearly across her face, and Jamie chuckled at her reaction.
"You slept for a billion years, you know? Did you think your concealment wards would still be infallible? You really underestimate your children that much?"
His questions made Angela glance at the three, quickly assessing their power levels, which were far higher than she expected, given the flaws of their Hybrid nature that made achieving Cosmic Superiority much harder.
"Besides," Jamie continued before anyone else could speak, a knowing grin spreading across his face, "you need to rest, don’t you?"
A trace of annoyance crept into Angela’s expression, and stepping forward, she demanded.
"Where is it?"
"I have no idea what you’re talking about," Jamie replied instantly, but Angela wasn’t having it.
"Don’t play games with me, Jamie. Where is it?"
Her voice stayed calm, though the irritation in it was steadily building, and even then, Jamie shook his head.
"I’m not playing games, I actually have no idea wh—"
Jamie was cut off mid-sentence as Angela reached out, and an immense force yanked his body toward her.
But just before she could grab him, void energy erupted from Jamie, and he reached out to seize Angela’s arm, his palm coated in it.
"Now, now, dear Chaos Witch... That would be most unwise," Jamie said, tightening his grip.
Sparks flew between them, an immense force pushing everyone else backwards as Jamie’s void power seeped into Angela’s skin, starting to crumble it to dust.
However, her arm regenerated just as quickly as it was turned to dust, an absurd feat considering Jamie’s void power wasn’t like Destruction, which ended something, or Erasure, which removed it, but rather something that unravelled reality at its core, reducing all that is to what was never there.
"Hold the fuck up, both of you!" Richard shouted, reaching out to pull their hands apart and shove Jamie back, while Oliva dragged Angela away, shooting a glare at Jamie.
Richard immediately turned to Angela, worry etched across his face, fully aware of the side effects of Jamie’s power, but his eyes widened as, within seconds, Angela’s wrist, which had been disintegrated down to bone, regenerated completely.
Along with it came a noticeable drop in the ambient cosmic energy concentration, something all of them sensed immediately.
"This..."
Oliva’s eyes widened as she watched, and Richard’s narrowed, his gaze rising to Angela as she pulled her arm free from his grip.
"How...?"
The answer to his question didn’t come from Angela, but from Jamie.
"What do you think, Richard? If you’re still refusing to accept the reality in front of you, maybe ask your little brother. He’s already realised it after becoming a Supreme."
Richard’s gaze immediately moved to John, who had been silently standing in the corner with his arms crossed, amber eyes fixed on their mother with an unreadable expression.
Sarina, John, and Miranda were the three ’Complete’ Hybrids who had achieved FULL Cosmic Superiority, and with it came the instinctive understanding of what Angela had been aiming for with her Hybrid Project.
Even that name wasn’t quite apt. The true name would be ’Absolute Immortality Project,’ since ’Hybrid’ was only used because Angela had to make them halves of two races to get the results she wanted.
They all realised that Angela had turned them into the same kind of being she was—a Deathless Immortal.
A Cosmic Being mutated by the power of the Cosmic Force of Chaos and the void beyond reality—that was what Angela was, and that was what she tried to replicate with the Hybrid Project.
The Incomplete Hybrids scattered across the universe were all her failed experiments, and her successes were the group that became known as the ’Six Hybrids,’ with the perfect replication being Jamie.
Richard and Olivia quickly connected the dots, but understanding this raised a crucial question.
"Why?"
That was something no one had answered to this day. Why had Angela tried to replicate her own existence?
But before Richard could begin unleashing the questions that had plagued his mind for millions of years, the silent John finally spoke.
"Mother, I won’t deny that I’m glad to see you again," he began, drawing Angela’s gaze to him.
"But that joy of mine is crushed beneath the weight of the questions and the desire to know all it is that you’ve been hiding from us..."
He paused, eyes shifting to Jamie, who had plopped down on a couch and crossed his legs, before continuing, "...along with that one."
Turning back to Angela, John asked his first question.
"Day 25, Month 12, Year 498,000 of the 906th Cosmic Cycle. What happened on that day that caused you to lose your physical body, Mother?"
"Wait, what?!" Olivia exclaimed in shock, her gaze alternating between Angela and John.
To her, Angela was surely physically present, but in the eyes of John, Miranda, and Jamie, that couldn’t have been further from the truth.
"The soul is our mother’s, but the body is just a temporary shell," John said, and Olivia’s eyes turned to Angela, silently asking if his words were true.
The silence she received was all the confirmation she needed.
At this, Jamie chuckled and said, "Riddle me this, Olivia. How powerful do you think your mother really is?
You might not have known a billion years ago when you were still ignorant of the Greater Cosmos, but now you’ve travelled through all Multiverses there are and understand much more about the hierarchy of the existences that dominate the Cosmic Stage.
So tell me, what Existence Realm do you think the ’Witch of Chaos’ that even the Eternals and Aggressors are wary of, is in? And do you really believe that body before you could contain all that power?"
Jamie was implying so much that he might as well have outright told them that Angela was an Ultimate Realm Existence.
Not just any random one, but a Superior Stage who had reached the domain where the only goal was to keep accumulating cosmic energy and growing more powerful without any conceptually discernible limit.
Olivia had already suspected this, but she hadn’t received confirmation, since she only learned of this Realm’s existence after Angela’s disappearance—a disappearance now confirmed to have been a slumber within her elder twin’s body.
Which brought them back to John’s question.
What had happened on that day a billion years ago that caused Angela to lose her body?
"While you’re at it, how about explaining why we don’t remember that day, and exactly how Jamie and..." John trailed off, his gaze dropping to the unconscious Daniella, pausing for a moment before returning to Angela and meeting her eyes.
"...your sister," he finally said, "is involved in all this."
"So the list of questions stands like this."
John moved away from the wall, taking a step forward with each question he asked.
"What did you turn us into, Mother? Why did you do it? Why did you continue your Hybrid Project even after getting Jamie out of it? Even when the power of Chaos was actively consuming your mind? What happened that day a billion years ago?"
Stopping directly in front of her, he finished,
"And who was the real target of your Immortality Project’s experiments?"
Angela had achieved completion with Olivia, John, Richard, Miranda, and Sarina, and perfection with Jamie.
So why did she continue working on it for years after?
"Come on, John. Don’t act like you haven’t figured it out yet," Jamie said with a chuckle, but John wasn’t in the mood to deal with him and simply ignored the silver-head.
He didn’t care about what he’d ’figured out’, what he’d ’discovered’ or what he’d been ’told’.
John wanted to hear everything directly from Angela herself, and Richard and Olivia shared that same desire.
The problem was that Angela was being very tight-lipped.
Her continued silence all this time made it clear she didn’t want to answer any of these questions.
In fact, her priority right now was regaining her original physical body so she could restore her full power and fulfil her long-time goal. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
This temporary shell of hers only allowed her Zenith Haven-level power at most, since if she hadn’t stopped her regeneration from forming a whole new, complete body from scratch, she might have finished the Destruction Supreme’s job for him.
She needed more cosmic energy to reconstruct her body than the Zanerth Universe required to function, after all.
The problem was she didn’t know ’where’ her body was, since her last memory was being separated from it.
The one person who definitely knew, since he had been the one to separate her soul from it, was busy whispering something into his lover’s ear while munching on popcorn from a bucket he’d gotten from heaven knows where.
Feeling her gaze, Jamie turned toward her and raised the bucket, as if asking whether she wanted some, and Angela’s brow twitched at the gesture.
Heaving a deep sigh, she pressed her fingers to her temple and let her body fall back onto the chair behind her.
"Fine," she muttered, lifting her gaze to meet her children’s eyes.
"I’ll tell you what you want."
