Beyond The Crimson Gate-Chapter 49: Final Preparations
Kale stood opposite Miss Cayenne in a lab.
She had spent the past half hour looking at her tablet, not even sparing him a glance.
Her eyes eventually tore from the illuminated screen and looked at him.
"You’re here? As yes, your suit." She walked off, then returned with a small metal watch.
Miss Cayenne handed it to him and Kale took it before placing it on his wrist.
He looked at the watch as he waited for Miss Cayenne to give him his suit.
She tilted her head slightly, "And what are you still doing here, Vincoff?" Her tone was lackluster.
Kale was about to ask for his suit when he looked at the watch and saw the button on its display.
He tapped on it and layers of metal spread from the watch and covered him entirely.
The parts rotated on his body until they fit him perfectly. His suit was still pitch black with blue blinking lights.
But instead of the harpie engravings from before, it had faint clouds running across the breast.
[Beast Integrations]
[Breath (Unlimited Uses)]
[You are able to breathe anywhere for 30 minutes]
[Cool down: 5 minutes]
Kale read the description of his new beast integration and was duly satisfied. There was no hidden subtext this time.
"Hmm. I forgot to mention. You will need to remember to place your crystal into the suit." Miss Cayenne spoke without looking up.
"Your suit no longer requires a beast crystal. Instead, it would drain the energy from you. Using a crystal will only reduce the amount it takes from you." Her words were crisp and sharp.
"There are benefits and losses to getting a beast infusion. This is one of the latter. Now go." She turned around and walked deeper into the lab.
Kale sucked his teeth before tapping on his wrist where the watch was and as expected, a prompt appeared.
[Are you sure you wish to withdraw your suit?]
"Yes." The suit retracted back into the watch. ’Compression technology.’ He thought as he left the lab.
Kale pulled out his phone on the way to his room to check on the finer details of his mission.
[No clothes or other apparatus are required.
[Your suit, weapon, and yourself are the only things to be provided.]
[Once all these are ready, proceed to the auditorium.]
Putting the phone in his pocket, Kale entered his room and put on his suit once more.
He reached for the sheets covering his bed and pulled out the sword that Axel and Dave had made for him.
Kale opened the weapon holster by the side of his leg and placed the sword there before closing it.
Then he took the suit off and picked up his phone. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
While Mr. Daniel had warned him not to tell anyone, and the mission was supposedly discreet, he couldn’t just vanish.
So he sent a message to Axel, Ming, and Ian, explaining the rough reason why he had to leave.
Waiting for a while, nobody responded, and with a sigh, Kale left for the auditorium, but not before placing his dad’s lucky jacket’s button in his pocket.
Kale walked slowly into the Audi and his jaw dropped when he saw the people there.
He saw Ian, Ming, Judith, and finally, Eric.
His eyes focused on Eric with ill-hidden malice. He hadn’t forgotten about his attempt on his life.
Kale was tempted to put on his battle suit and attack him on the spot.
He knew people like Eric from his high school.
They felt like the world should be handed to them on a silver platter, and people who showed them reality would be beaten up.
Eric’s eyes slowly locked with Kale’s and the former let out a sinister, threatening smile.
Kale was about to tap his watch when...
"Kale!" Ian called out, distracting him.
He turned to face Ian and Ming with a bright smile.
"You guys didn’t tell me that you were selected to be part of the task force." He said in mock hurt.
"Well, neither did you." Ming countered, and Kale rose, just a phone screen.
Ian and Ming looked at the screen and looked away nervously, "We... um, saw your text and decided to wait for you to come here yourself."
"Where’s Catalyst?" Ian asked about Kale’s per lizard.
Shifting slightly and meeting the gaze of Eric once more, Kale gritted his teeth before opening his mouth, "I left him with Axel..."
"... the one who is also successful irrespective of the foolish attempts of some insignificant pests." Kale pretty much yelled out the last part so that Eric would hear him.
This didn’t go unnoticed by Ming.
Eric clenched his fists until his knuckles popped and his palms bled.
Ming was about to ask the reason for his obvious animosity with the blonde she had never met when space stretched and Mr. Stone appeared.
But this time, he wasn’t alone. Attached to his arm was a woman with pitch black eyes, wearing Victorian clothes.
Her eyes had white spots that were like stars in an abyss.
"Good day, everyone." Her voice was smooth and immediately calmed the tension.
"I’m Sharon." She started to introduce herself and Mr. Stone walked over to Kale.
"How’s the infusion holding up?" He asked.
"Uhh... fine, I guess."
"Good." He walked back to Sharon.
"Okay." Her voice turned serious, "I’m here to take you all to where you will be boarding the ship."
Before any of them could ask a question, her mouth opened, "I see us being at the port."
Everywhere shifted around them and they found themselves on the rooftop of a skyscraper.
Before they could take in their surroundings, she spoke some incoherent words and vanished, leaving them to themselves.
A loud hum slowly shook the building.
The soldiers prepared to act if necessary, although they couldn’t determine the source.
"Don’t worry if you can’t see it but know that it’s our ride." Mr. Stone revealed.
