Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 236 - 224 Why Do People Have to Grow Up! (Part 1)
"Fourth Bro, it’s Third Bro! That woman..." At this moment, the super sultry woman standing beside Mi Chenshuo clung to him as though she had no bones. Yi Luowa lifted her chin slightly and turned to look at Tong Airui.
"Dapeng, honk the horn!" Tong Airui frowned.
Dapeng nodded and honked twice.
Mi Chenshuo and the woman turned their heads. Seeing it was Tong Airui’s car, Mi Chenshuo pushed the woman away from his arms and sauntered over.
"Lock the doors. Don’t let him get in," Tong Airui said, looking at Mi Chenshuo with obvious disdain.
Mi Chenshuo was close enough to hear him, and quickened his pace. Before Dapeng could lock the doors, he had already squeezed into the front passenger seat.
Mi Chenshuo adjusted his slightly unbuttoned shirt and turned to Tong Airui. "Here for dinner? Let’s eat together?"
"Get out quickly, or my entire car will reek of fox stench," Tong Airui glared at him. "If I’d known you liked this type, I would’ve gotten you an actual fox as a pet!"
"Your mouth is wicked!" Mi Chenshuo chuckled, then turned to Yi Luowa. "Craving hotpot? Third Bro treats you."
Yi Luowa shook her head. "Suddenly, I don’t feel like eating anymore. Third Bro, even if you dislike Lan Ji, you don’t need to fight against Auntie like this. Sit down and talk it out—it’s not that big of a deal. If you keep this up, you’ll only ruin yourself."
Mi Chenshuo’s eyes dimmed instantly. "I’ll eat somewhere else. You all eat here." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Tong Airui saw him preparing to get out of the car and grabbed his arm. "What exactly do you want?"
"What do I want? Ask your aunt what she wants! Knowing full well I don’t like Lan Ji, she keeps bringing her up every day. Fine, I’ll show her—I’ll swap out girlfriends like this every day until Lan Ji doesn’t dare to marry me!" Mi Chenshuo shook off Tong Airui’s hand and got out of the car.
After leaving the car, Mi Chenshuo hopped into his luxury car, abandoned the woman, and sped off into the distance.
Yi Luowa pursed her lips. Even after Mi Chenshuo’s car disappeared, she hadn’t snapped out of it.
Tong Airui shook his head helplessly. "Let’s just go eat."
"Not hungry anymore." Yi Luowa pouted and looked out the car window at the woman. The woman didn’t seem fazed by Mi Chenshuo’s abrupt departure. She flagged down a taxi with remarkable poise, got in, and left.
"We’ve already arrived, just get something to eat. I’ll call Mom later and ask her to persuade Auntie."
"Alright." Yi Luowa agreed and got out of the car, though the meal left her feeling like she was chewing tasteless wax. Mi Chenshuo was not like Mi Chenxuan—he was introverted, keeping much to himself, and at this rate, he was likely heading towards self-destruction.
They were halfway through the meal when Tong Airui called his mom.
Tong Yao sighed after hearing everything. "This isn’t entirely your aunt’s fault. The Lan family has been pressing hard, visiting her every single day to nag about this. Your aunt only brought Lan Ji up to him twice; who could’ve predicted he’d react so strongly?"
"There might be more to it. Otherwise, Third Bro wouldn’t act like this." Tong Airui picked up a napkin and wiped some food off Yi Luowa’s mouth corner. "I’ll find time to talk to him soon."
"Okay, figure it out first, then we can figure out a solution. By the way... Rui’er, ask Luowa when she’s free in the next few days."
"Is there something urgent?" Tong Airui’s grip on the phone tightened slightly. He worried his mom might give Luowa some task again.
"We’re heading to Nation S in a few days. I want to take her shopping for evening gowns. Ni’er offered to make some for her, but I don’t trust it—look at how scatterbrained she’s been lately." Tong Yao sighed in exasperation. "Honestly, seeing her like this, I can’t wait for her to just get married and stop causing trouble."
Tong Airui exhaled deeply. "Mom, I’ve already bought Luowa’s gowns. And Ni’er—let’s not ask her to design them. In her current state, I doubt she could come up with anything decent."
Tong Yao chuckled. "You’re quite quick with things!"
"I’m just helping take some work off your plate. Speaking of Ni’er’s marriage, you’ll need to do more convincing with Dad and Grandpa. If this drags on, won’t we risk Ni’er falling ill from sadness?"
"Nowadays, no one listens to what I say—you know what, I’m done meddling. Then there’s Nuo’er—did you notice his attitude towards Connie? Never mind, I’ll stop rambling, hanging up now."
Tong Airui lowered his phone only after hearing the busy signal from the other end.
Yi Luowa pouted. "Mom’s upset?"
Tong Airui shrugged. "Every family has its own mess to handle. So, where are you heading this afternoon? Hospital or my place?"
"I’ll go to the hospital. I didn’t go back last night."
"Alright, I’ll go with you. I need to discuss shock absorber production with Second Uncle anyway. Ai Nuo also has a few orders for Second Uncle these days; it seems he’ll be quite busy after leaving the hospital."
Yi Luowa grinned. "Thanks, Fourth Bro!"
"It’s ’Fourth!’" Tong Airui corrected her again.
"Okay! Fourth Bro!" Yi Luowa earnestly tried again.
Tong Airui playfully bit her lip. "Keep misbehaving, and I’ll bite you again!"
Yi Luowa giggled and pushed him away. The two walked out of the private room hand in hand.
Hospital
Yi Weiyang had just finished arranging Ao Lie’s discharge papers when Yi Luowa and Tong Airui arrived.
Yi Luowa noticed Aunt Li cleaning up some luggage and asked confusedly, "What’s going on?"
Yi Weiyang smiled. "Huo Li said she can’t stand the smell of hospitals anymore, so we’re heading home today."
"Is it safe?" Yi Luowa asked worriedly.
"If it weren’t safe, the doctors wouldn’t have let us go." Yi Weiyang turned to Tong Airui. "Airui, I don’t even know how to thank you. Old Pu called me this morning to tell me they received several major orders, all from merchants in Xiawu. I immediately suspected it was your doing."
"I didn’t do much, really." Tong Airui smiled. "Second Uncle, since I’m already adding to the celebration, how about another order? I’m planning to make ongoing purchases of shock absorbers from you."
Yi Weiyang beamed. "You want the set designed by Luowa, don’t you? She came up with it herself. I’ve already applied for a patent for her. Whether you want to buy the patent or production rights—or have her give it to you for free—that’s up to Luowa to decide."
"Second Uncle, I need you to handle it. Luowa said she wants to contribute something to PCW after all the years you’ve nurtured her."
Yi Weiyang chuckled warmly and glanced at Yi Luowa. "Raising you—that’s my responsibility, not a transaction. All I hope is that you visit me occasionally when I’m old—that would be payment enough."
Yi Luowa pouted and hugged her second uncle’s arm. "Second Uncle..."
Yi Weiyang ruffled her hair. "Oh come on, aren’t you a grown-up now? Stop acting like a child."
"Second Uncle, please take it as a gift to celebrate PCW’s new location. You must accept it." Yi Luowa glanced at Tong Airui but held back further comments. With her uncle recovering and about to leave the hospital, she chose not to bring up where she might work in the future.
Yi Weiyang and Huo Li were discharged. Huo Li was transported to the estate by ambulance. Upon arrival, she instantly fell in love with the place—it was like a utopia, a paradise on earth compared to towering buildings she’d been used to.
Their bedrooms were arranged downstairs, making it convenient for both patients.
Tong Airui followed them back and accompanied Yi Weiyang in the living room for a chat, while Yi Luowa spoke quietly with Huo Li in the bedroom. Feeling apologetic, Yi Luowa shared Tong Airui’s idea of her working at the car factory with Huo Li.
Huo Li pursed her lips. "If you want to go, just go. I’ll take care of Second Uncle for you. Just make sure you visit whenever you can."
Yi Luowa stared at her intently. "You actually support me going?"
"Why not? You’re his person now, sooner or later. Might as well go sooner. Besides, from how inseparable you two are now, spending just one day apart would probably drive you mad!" Huo Li laughed, covering her mouth.
Yi Luowa glared at her. "I won’t be that pathetic, okay!"
"Alright, spend a week here without seeing him, then report back!"
Yi Luowa sighed deeply. A day without Tong Airui was already nerve-wracking; she was clearly hopeless.
"Enough thinking ahead—it’s still a year before your internship starts." Huo Li patted her arm. "Go spend time with Second Uncle. School’s starting soon, and after that, you’ll only manage to visit once a week."
Yi Luowa nodded, tucked in her blanket, and stepped out.
As soon as she stepped into the hall, she heard Yi Weiyang say with a smile, "That girl gives herself away too easily—it was obvious she wanted to talk to me today!"
"She’s worried about you and Huo Li."
"If she’s worried, she can just visit often; you can decide her work. Like I said, at home she only causes trouble for me. If you take her away, I’ll be relieved!"
Leaning against the doorframe, tears welled up in Yi Luowa’s eyes. She knew her second uncle too well—his casual tone meant his heart was heavy.
Yi Weiyang sighed. "Luowa loved soldiers ever since she was little. When she first understood things, she told me she wanted to enlist when she grew up. But after she turned twelve, she never mentioned it again. Later, I found out why—because of me. When she attended summer camp at twelve, I was left alone at home, nearly injuring myself badly. Since then, she decided she’d never leave me alone. She said she’d stay by my side forever."
Tong Airui gently curled his lips. "Second Uncle, Luowa will never truly leave you. I’ll bring her back to visit often."
Yi Luowa sniffled and entered the hall, her voice trembling. "Why do people have to grow up? If we didn’t grow up, I’d never have to leave you, Second Uncle."
Yi Weiyang turned to her, chuckling. "Silly child, that’s just the natural order of things."
Yi Luowa hugged his arm tightly. "I won’t leave you."
"Xiawu isn’t far. If you miss me, drive back for two or three hours and you’re here." Yi Weiyang patted her head lovingly.
"Waah..."
Before Yi Luowa could cry, sobbing sounds came from Huo Li’s room.
"What’s going on with her? Is she unwell?" Yi Weiyang asked worriedly.
"I’ll check on her—she was fine just now." Yi Luowa dashed into Huo Li’s bedroom.
