Chapter 85: We Said Our Goodbyes

Lara’s POV

I couldn’t keep up with what was going on. We had been dating for only a few months when I found out that my apartment had been rented out to someone else. For the sake of promoting my book, I had no choice but to relocate to New York. While everyone was thrilled, no one knew how it had happened, which I was happy to keep a secret. We spent most of our time in Brent’s apartment to keep it quiet. My fascination with him was unquenchable. As soon as I got to know him the way I did, I was eager to try out every fantasy I had ever had with him. My favorite sexual pleasures included being spanked from the back and having anything tied to the bed. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

I still found it difficult to bring up certain subjects, such as our upcoming Christmas vacation. Even though I knew he was over the Lily thing and just wanted to see his family, I was still nervous about our meeting. I used sex as a distraction from my doubts about our relationship because of how quickly we were developing.

Afterward, when I was making spaghetti one night, he cornered me in the kitchen and asked a series of questions about my life. We’d worked long hours and were exhausted, but I still craved my mother’s recipe. Inquiringly, "What’s wrong with you?" He asked, causing me to leap back to the here and now. "No, I don’t understand what you’re saying." As he kissed my neck, I inquired in a soft voice.

"You’ve got something on your mind. I know you try to hide things and distract me," Brent whispered as I melted against him. "Lara, come here and talk with me."

I paused and stirred the sauce while taking a breather. The prospect of meeting her has me apprehensive.

What an awkward question: "Who is this woman?" he asked, his blush rising.

I whispered, "Lily" as he wrapped his arms around me. It’s over, but I can’t help but wonder if it was all worth it.

"Just stop it right now." Brent said, "I love you" for the first time as I lay motionless in his arms. "Don’t worry about anything; I value our relationship more than anything else."

"I love you," I whispered to him as I leaned in for a kiss. For a long time now, they’d been circling us, but now they were in the open. Because of his tender kiss, I felt like a new person. After we’d had a good night’s sleep, we ate our pasta on the couch. The music he was playing on TV accompanied our conversation as we talked about our upcoming trip and move, and I was beaming with joy by this point. Both of these New York residences had caught my eye in photos, and I was blown away by their beauty. I couldn’t believe that the apartment was located on the twenty-first floor. When I arrived at the house on the water it was fully equipped, and I only had to bring my clothes, shoes, and a few personal items. During our passionate kisses and subsequent bedtime cuddles, I repeatedly professed my love and devotion to him.

After spending a week with Roy and Lily, Brent would get to see his new granddaughter for the second time and re-connect with his grandson, Roy. Kylie was six months old and Dylan was three years old at the time. The day after New Year’s, we were going to fly to New York to begin our new life in the Big Apple.

We flew first class and held hands on the short flight. Since admitting our feelings for one another, Brent and I had grown closer, but I couldn’t help but think of Lily the entire because she had a family of her own, including a husband and two young children, I assumed everything between her and Roy was going swimmingly. It was just one of those things that happened. There had to be some resemblances between us because our ages were so close. After we landed, I gave Brent a small smile as we went to get our luggage and meet Roy. Brent’s dark blonde hair and features were evident in a young boy he was holding while he waited. When Roy told me about all the good things he’d heard about me, he hugged both his father and me tightly. When Brent questioned Dylan about his sister and the house, Dylan gave him a lengthy answer. Brent was holding Dylan.

At this point, it was obvious that they were nothing more than family. So engrossed in Roy and her small family was Lily when we arrived at the house that she chattered to us like a weary mother. There was a huge tree in the living room near the fireplace in the large house, which was decorated for the holidays.

That night, before going to sleep, I inquired of Brent if he regretted having only one child. When I saw the two kids play together last night, it made me reflect on my own future. "Due to our busy schedules, we hadn’t talked about it until now." Brent kissed my hair as he rolled over on his back and wrapped his arm around my waist. Is having children something you’d like to do in the future?

"My career has always come first, so it’s been pushed to the back of my mind. But Roy is in love with Lily, and they’re adorable." Brent smiled at me in the dim light coming from the wall, and I looked into his eyes as he did so. "How do you get over what happened?"

"Time," Brent said, pulling my body against his. I’m sure they have a lot of talking to do with all the time they have. Brawls are possible. Reyn’s difficult part was taken care of by them since I stepped away and quietly divorced her However, I had to deal with it on my own, and now it feels like nothing ever happened.

As he kissed me, I said, "I can see that," in response. The only thing they had in common was a deep and abiding love for one another. In other words, "I’m smitten."

At night, Brent whispered to me, "I love you," as we climbed into bed. I was homeless, but I’d never felt safer than I did when I was with this man. When we spent the holidays with his family, we were able to meet Reyn and her new husband, an oil magnate who catered to her every desire. I could tell she’d moved on quickly from Brent’s short marriage based on their interactions.

The day after she left, Brent took us out to breakfast in town. I helped Dylan into his seat while Brent sat next to me and made sure that both children were safe in the lodge-style restaurant. We opted for an early dinner for the sake of our two young children, and as I looked out the window, the sun was beginning to set. As a result of my conversations with Roy and Lily, I felt more confident.

Roy and Lily had been friends for a long time, but Lily admitted that she had been in love with him since the beginning. After a difficult breakup and a fling with Brent, things moved quickly and left her perplexed. They were able to get through it all without any major issues, which made the situation even better for both of them. They were content with their lives and loved ones and had no desire to go back.

When Brent found someone he loved as much as she did, she was overjoyed, and she was looking forward to our future together.

At that dinner, Brent bowed to the floor, which caught me completely off guard. My boyfriend proposed to me after six months of dating and said he wanted to spend the rest of my life with me. First, I looked down at the box with the ring in it, which shimmered as I stared into his eyes. After I said yes, Roy joked with him about the whirlwind romance, but we all had a good time.

She admired the diamond-encrusted band as Brent put his arm around me. "I need to start a family with this girl before I’m too old. To do that with someone else is something I’ve never desired." At the same time that I was blushing and laughing, Roy and Lily looked at each other.

We said our goodbyes and made our way to New York, where I was astounded by the magnitude of the city. As the city grew, so did the number of people. I was Niel’s assistant, and while the pace was faster than in Los Angeles, I enjoyed working with him. Brent and I were obvious to him and the staff at our first meeting, and the ring on my left hand was not. Even better, no one else did because that was the way things were in New York. Brent was able to work from home while keeping an eye on all of the company’s locations thanks to the company’s focus on making money.

In this town, we went out a lot. I didn’t mind that there was always a restaurant open for dinner and a play to see. Only close family and friends were invited to our spring wedding on the beach in The Hamptons. Our son was only three months old when we kissed for the first time as husband and wife in the setting sun. When we were done inside, there was a large dinner and reception outside, and I was in ecstasy. When I found out that I was pregnant, my life was finally complete.
