Birthing Legends: My Womb Creates SSS Monsters-Chapter 39: Eating the Predators of the Glow Garden — Part 3.
Maddy stood in the center of the clearing, her wings shimmering with a dull metallic luster. She didn’t move a muscle, even as her Tremor Sense and Prey Detection began to ping with a dozen frantic heartbeats. Something was coming from the shadows of the glowing vines, moving fast and hungry.
"I can feel them coming, Lucy. Usually, I’d be dodging or charging, but I feel... heavy. Solid. Let’s see if these beetle traits are actually worth the calories."
A high pitched drone filled the air as a swarm of insects burst from the foliage. They weren’t graceful like the mosquitoes; they were aggressive, jagged things with oversized, needle like fangs protruding from their mouths. One of them dived at Maddy’s neck, its fangs snapping shut with enough force to pierce through leather.
CRACK!
The fly’s fangs shattered against Maddy’s skin like glass against a diamond wall. The insect didn’t even have time to register the pain before Maddy’s Static Discharge kicked in.
A violent arc of blue electricity surged from her skin, frying the fly instantly. It fell to the ground, its tiny legs twitching in a rhythmic, paralyzed dance.
"Did you hear that, Lucy? It sounded like a dry twig snapping."
Maddy laughed, her voice echoing with a dark, melodic glee.
"Poor thing thought I was a snack, but I’m just a giant bug zapper!"
More of the swarm followed, driven by a blind, territorial rage. One by one, they slammed into her—hitting her arms, her back, and even her forehead. Only to suffer the same fate. The sound of cracking fangs and popping electricity filled the cave, sounding exactly like a faulty electric fly trap on a hot summer night.
[New Monsterpedia Entry Added: Fang Flies]
[Fang Flies (Evolve Form) — Habitat: Cave / Forest / Swamp]
[Small but aggressive scavengers known for their Fangs. They rely on overwhelming numbers to bleed out prey, though their physical bodies are remarkably fragile compared to their bite force.]
Maddy’s eyes widened as she appraised them.
[Magic: 260,000 | Might: 260,000]
"That’s a lot of power... and they still can’t survive my zapping skin!"
She looked down at the dozens of shaking, smoking flies piled around her.
"Look at them all. They’re just lying there, vibrating like tiny, angry batteries. It’s almost pathetic how easily they broke themselves trying to hurt me."
She waited until the air was clear of the buzzing pests, then gave her wings a powerful snap, hovering just a few feet off the ground. She turned back toward the pile of paralyzed flies, her eyes glowing with a violet hue as her chest began to split open.
"Waste not, want not. DΣMӨПIᄃ BᄂӨӨD ΛЯƬ: HELLMOUTH!"
The gravity well opened, and the pile of Fang Flies was sucked upward in a swirling vortex of shadow. They vanished into her abyssal maw in a single, silent gulp. Maddy snapped her chest shut and let out a small, satisfied sigh as the system updated her library.
[System Notice]
[You have ingested an object containing traits.]
[Trait Acquired: Bone Piercing Fangs]
[Possesses needle-like fangs capable of penetrating flesh, tendon, and thin bone. Bite attacks inflict deep puncture wounds that cause steady bleeding.]
[Trait Acquired: Swarm Instinct]
[Instinctively coordinates attacks with nearby Fang Flies. Increases aggression and attack frequency when fighting in groups.]
[Trait Acquired: Aerial Agility]
[Lightweight body allows rapid flight acceleration and sudden direction changes. Difficult to track or strike while airborne.]
[Trait Acquired: Blood Scent Detection]
[Highly sensitive to the smell of exposed blood or wounded prey. Detection range increases with the intensity of the scent.]
[Trait Acquired: Fragile Body]
[Body structure is delicate and lightly protected. Suffers greatly increased damage from direct physical strikes.]
[Trait Acquired: Persistent Harassment]
[Continues attacking in short repeated strikes rather than single engagements. Designed to exhaust and weaken larger prey over time.]
[Trait Acquired: Fang Flies Body Parts]
[You may now manifest any portion of the Fang Flies’ anatomy—arms, legs, or the entire physical form with perfect precision. These examples are not limiting; any part can be used.]
Maddy read all the newly acquired traits.
"Bone-piercing fangs... that’s a nice addition to my teeth. I might even combine this with my other traits to make a skill that turns my bite into something deadly."
Her eyes lingered on the next trait. Fragile Body.
"...Huh. That’s... new. The first time a trait isn’t an enhancement, but a weakness. It actually makes me more vulnerable instead of stronger. Interesting... I didn’t expect this system to give me a flaw."
She tapped her fingers against her lips, thoughtful.
"Well... maybe it’s not such a bad thing. I can work with it. Adaptation is part of survival, and this just gives me another edge to strategize but... I can’t apply it, or it’ll override my other defensive traits."
[Apply these traits to yourself, or store them?]
"Yeah, apply except the Fragile Body."
[Response: By your command... applying all ingested traits directly to your body except the Fragile Body.]
Initializing...
Poof!
[Done.]
With her newly acquired flying trait, the Arial Agility, Maddy tested her skills, looping tightly in the air.
"OOH! I feel like a jet fighter now!"
After a minute of hovering and darting like a fighter jet, she finally ended her playful display and focused on her goal.
"Lucy, I think I’m done with the bugs in this area. Let’s move forward... but which way?"
She scanned the glow garden. Three paths stretched out before her: north, east, and west. A sound made her pause, her sensitive ears picking up something new. From the west path, past the giant mushrooms, came the rhythmic roar of rushing water.
"Ooh, yes! This area has an underground river! Let’s check it out, there might be fish! Oh god, I want sushi... please let there be!"
She adjusted her wings and soared toward the sound, the lush blue grass rippling beneath her.
"Let’s go, Lucy!"
[New Map Acquired: Area 2 — West]
As she entered Area 2 — West, she found the air becoming heavy with mist. The glowing plants here were slick with moisture.
"Fishes... I can almost taste a nice grilled sea bass. Or maybe a salmon. Anything that isn’t a crunchy bug would be a dream come true right now."
She landed near the bank of a wide underground river. But as she scanned the water, a long, sticky, red muscle shot out from a nearby rock with the speed of a whip.
