Bizarre Realm-Chapter 341 - 16: Promotion to Devil
This extravagant banquet will last until late into the night, but Shawn lost interest after just one round.
Standing on the second-floor balcony, holding a glass of wine as red as blood, he gazed at the men and women reveling in the hall and somehow felt an understanding for Aemon.
"Sir."
As Shawn fell into contemplation, a sycophantic voice broke in. A young servant with decent looks approached cautiously, bowing low, and said, "Is this your first time attending the banquet, sir?"
Shawn slightly turned his body, casting a glance at the flattering young servant before him. The servant’s expression was somewhat constrained, yet his eyes burned with fierce ambition and desire—a craving for power and position.
Unbeknownst to him, he had gained the ability to see mortal desires and ambitions.
It was the fire of desire in one’s eyes. Under the Spiritual Vision of the Devil’s Law, the fire of lust tinged with a hint of seductive pink, while the fire of power resembled a blazing torch. These flames embodied inner desires and ambitions, manifested through the law of the Demon Realm.
The young servant’s eyes burned with ambitions and desires. He saw his contact with Shawn as an opportunity to change his fate.
Such people are never content with the status quo; they’ll always seek a chance to rise.
Shawn did not answer his question; instead, he replied indifferently, "What is your name?"
The young servant bowed respectfully and said, "Brand."
"If this is your first time here, perhaps I could show you around. There are many interesting places here unknown to others."
——Reading Thoughts.
This guy wants to establish a connection with me, hoping to find a path to power and status.
A faint Spiritual Light appeared in Shawn’s eyes as he smirked nonchalantly, "Lead the way."
Brand’s eyes flashed with a hint of delight as he said obsequiously, "Yes."
"Sir, please follow me."
When Shawn first arrived at the estate, it was Brand who opened the door and led the way. The others’ attention was focused on Daniel Achi, thinking he would be the new mayor. However, Brand perceptively noticed Shawn’s trailing step—there was no reverence for the new mayor in Shawn’s demeanor. During an unintentional eye contact, it seemed Daniel Achi even took directions from Shawn’s gaze.
This discovery made Brand realize that the handsome man before him was likely the actual ’big figure’!
The power dynamics in Dusk Town were reshuffling too quickly.
In just one day, the notable figures in the gray areas had all been replaced. Both the underworld and legitimate spheres had new influential figures quickly ascend, arousing suspicions of a hidden powerhouse supporting some to power, replacing Dusk Town’s representatives.
It was for this reason that Brand finally found an opportunity to strike up a conversation, seeking a chance to connect with this ’big figure.’
"Sir, please follow me."
Brand led Shawn through a hidden corridor, maintaining a respectful distance with his back slightly bowed, showing utmost humility. From this vantage point, the entire hall could be seen, with the most conspicuous figure being Daniel Achi, surrounded by many of the privileged class, all attempting to ingratiate themselves with the new mayor.
The young servant named Brand lowered his voice and pointed out a beautiful noblewoman seated at the corner sofa. Under the crystal light, the noblewoman’s white and ample bosom was accentuated by a deep cleavage. He whispered, "Madame Yvonne. Her husband was once a somewhat reputable fabric merchant. It’s said that beneath her reserved exterior lies a nature as lascivious as an Enchanting Demon."
Shawn glanced casually, seemingly uninterested.
Enchanting Demon.
Abyss City is never short of Enchanting Demons and Banshees.
Brand was evidently skilled at observing nuances. His eyes roamed the luxurious hall and quickly landed on a pair of stunningly similar young sisters, whispering, "These are sisters from Miller. It’s said that their ancestors were once fallen nobles."
"They are very popular."
Upon hearing this, Shawn raised an eyebrow but made no response.
This big figure seems hard to please.
Brand surveyed the surroundings, bowed his head respectfully, and said, "Sir, please follow me."
The two walked through a dimly lit hallway, passing by lavishly decorated hidden rooms. At the window position, there was a concealed compartment, the opening of which allowed a view into a corner of the room. Brand continued to cautiously gauge Shawn’s thoughts, as he seemed disinterested in ordinary beauty. Such a significant figure likely harbored some peculiar preferences, as many prominent figures Brand had encountered had unique peccadilloes. He was now gambling on catering to such preferences, hoping to garner favor from this notable personage.
A faint, elusive moaning sound could be heard.
Through the hidden compartment, Shawn saw pale flesh intertwined together. The scene somewhat resembled an 80s Western movie he had seen years ago.
Noticing Shawn’s apparent interest, Brand whispered, "That is Ocarov; his father is the bank manager. Beside him is O’Kerry, the son of the clerk."
In the room, two men and four women were wantonly reveling.
It seems this kind of banquet wasn’t being held for the first time. In the remote Dusk Town, it had established smuggling channels to Dorne City, feeding the elites of all social strata to their fill. Ordinary things could no longer satisfy their ever-expanding desires.
