(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 530: Say I do
The sound of water lapping at the dock, hitting the rocks in the distance, filled his ears. The cries of the birds around them as well as the chattering of the crowd on top of the small island filled Andrew’s ears.
It was oddly soothing, and Andrew could see the backs of the few that had remained behind climbing up the steps. Andrew took a deep breath, his lungs filling with the slightly chilly air and it felt like he was awakening again.
It was a good day for a wedding.
"Once the girls reach the steps, Maria is going to give me the signal and we’ll start the music, alright?" The wedding planner told Andrew and Andrew nodded. "Thomas and Kim, you’re breaking off from Andrew and going to your seats, yes?" She confirmed for the third time. Thomas chuckled.
"Yes Ma’am. As you’ve ordered." He said and she nodded, smiling.
"I am just reminding you. We didn’t do a run here." She reminded him and he grinned.
"Thank you for keeping us all in line." He said. Ford let out a soft sigh that had Andrew looking at him. Ford met Andrew’s gaze, as if able to sense that he was looking at him. Ford gave him a soft smile.
"Just getting mentally prepared to hand you off to Maxy." Ford told him. Andrew nodded, emotional as well. May took that moment to emerge from the depths, her eyes bright and her hair done perfectly. She was wearing a rather pleasant tone of mauve that matched her skin tone, and matched the tie that Ford was wearing.
"Alright boys. Are we ready?" She asked, taking her place at Andrew’s side. He was having them both walk him down the aisle. He couldn’t choose just one of them, and it didn’t seem fair. Maxwell had thought it was a cute idea, and so had Kim.
"Showing up at the finish line, huh, May?" Kim teased and May stuck her tongue out at the other woman.
"Don’t start. Maxy needed an Andrew tinted lens around him at the moment, and of course I’m the best for that." May told them. Andrew’s heart lurched.
"Is he alright?" Andrew asked, worry filling him. May didn’t change her expression and shook her head.
"Of course he’s fine. He’s also allowed to be nervous, Andrew." She warned. Andrew blinked. He knew the man could get nervous, he just didn’t think he would be for their wedding. He had been so...strong for it so far. He also hadn’t even flinched in the morning.
Andrew let out a shaky breath.
"It was also why you went first into the boat. So that he could smell that you were ahead of him." May said and Andrew felt his eyes widen in shock. May gave him a cunning look. "Your little Maxy is going to need some cuddling once you two have a moment to yourselves." May said with a wink and Andrew couldn’t breathe for a second.
Maxwell? Needing comfort?
There was no way in hell he was going to turn that down.
"We’ve just gotten the sign to start the music. Everyone ready?" The wedding planner didn’t care about the moment that they were having, which was good. She needed to, as Thomas said, keep everyone in line.
"We’re ready." Andrew rasped, pulling himself together. Everyone smiled, and Kim and Thomas linked arms ahead of Andrew and began to move.
Just two groups, simple, getting off the boat and climbing the stairs together.
The music they chose was something simple. A few classical pieces that Andrew and Maxwell liked. Nothing out of the ordinary. Maxwell had wanted live music, but Andrew had convinced him to keep that to the parties since the island was a little riskier. Maxwell had relented, so the music played through the speakers of the boat.
It meant it was pretty deafening the closer to the boat you were, but once at the top of the island, it was soft. Nice.
Andrew was proud that he didn’t slip on the steps. A small miracle, but he did watch Kim almost fall. She was in heels, against suggestion, but Thomas caught her. No one else saw except Andrew, May and Ford, and Andrew knew May wasn’t going to let her live it down.
Kim knew it too, but they kept silent.
The crowd grew quiet when Kim and Thomas crested the steps. The silence was total when Andrew, Ford and May crested. Andrew tried to keep serious, doing his best. The group here was a mix of close family friends for Andrew and Maxwell, as well as a few others. Andrew could barely see everyone’s faces, his eyes a little all over the place and unfocused. God, this was so nerve wracking.
He was only the groom, too. Maxwell would have this worse.
Moving down the aisle towards the officiant and the arch had Andrew’s heart in his throat. It was only made better because he had Ford and May at his side. He watched Thomas and Kim break off to ’their sides’, sitting down. Kim sat down next to Jenny and their kids, two empty seats next to her while Thomas sat down next to Ben, Mehar and William. An empty seat next to him for Luis and an empty seat next to Ben for Amir.
When they finally stopped and Andrew had to take the last few steps alone, it was a hard thing to do. He hesitated for a second, but Ford and May smiled at him.
"You’ll do wonderfully." May whispered, Ford’s eyes watering.
"We’re right here." He reminded him and Andrew nodded. Finally, he moved up and towards the altar. Alone for only a short while. Soon, Maxwell would join him.
Andrew greeted the officiant, and then turned, waiting for his groom. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The shift in music told him that the Wedding Planner had gotten the memo that Andrew was at the altar and everyone waited with baited breath for Maxwell.
They didn’t have a bridal party in the traditional sense. They hadn’t really planned for anything like that. There was Amir and Luis, but that was pretty much it. Ellis would have been involved if he was able to, but that was okay. Maxwell had come to terms with that fact at least.
Andrew glanced towards where they would have sat and saw the stand in with the tablet. Andrew gave it a small wave, showing them that he saw that they were there.
Andrew was already nervous, his toes tapping quietly. It only got worse when he saw Amir crest the stairs, all smiles. Andrew felt his heart pause as he realised that Amir wasn’t empty-handed. He was holding a bouquet of flowers.
Andrew hadn’t discussed that with Maxwell, nor had he discussed that with Ford. Andrew’s gaze slid to Ford, who seemed to sense Andrew’s gaze on him. He gave Andrew a cheeky grin and Andrew realised that Maxwell had planned this on his own.
Andrew’s heart swelled.
It was made worse when Maxwell and Luis crested the stairs. Maxwell was focused on not tripping, but when his head came up, Andrew lost the ability to see. Tears poured down his face.
Maxwell looked stunning.
He had taken on the duty of wearing white today, and it was this wonderful white lace tuxedo that made him look even more like a fairy than normal. Andrew had a feeling that it wasn’t the traditional thick material that tuxedos were normally made out of, but instead something gauzy and expensive. It was Maxwell, after all. It also appeared to have the amber shimmer to it as well, which made Andrew’s breathing grow rough.
Maxwell hadn’t left his outfit to just that. He was wearing a metal ring of sorts on the top of his head which was keeping in place another lace piece. The piece wasn’t anything small. It framed his face, practically hiding his black hair and trailed down his back like a cape. It was a lot less like a veil that it should have been, and more like he was wearing a lace cape. It was made up of lace flowers, pearls, and other precious white gems interwoven into the fabric. It made him look ethereal. Add in the heels that made him tower over his mother, Maxwell looked stunning.
His bright blue gaze felt like the only drop of colour outside of his bright, flushed ears and cheeks. He was grinning from ear to ear. He wasn’t the stoic man that everyone knew him to be and thankfully, someone helped Andrew get his handkerchief out to dab at his eyes.
Luis looked just as pleased next to her son, her own bouquet in her arms. Andrew realised that May and Luis were wearing the same dress, and that only made Andrew more emotional. God, they were so sweet and Maxwell looked so damn pretty.
Everyone was clearly captivated by the other man and when Luis came closer, approaching Andrew, Andrew nearly stumbled trying to get to them. He caught himself, but Maxwell’s little chuckle meant everything to him.
"You’ve got this." Luis whispered, her eyes bright as she glanced between Andrew and Maxwell. Andrew gave a nod, not trusting himself to answer at the moment. Maxwell, pretty, fairy-like Maxwell smiled up at Andrew with such open affection that Andrew wanted to scoop him up and kiss him then and there.
Andrew was somehow able to stop himself and made sure that they were both standing before the officiant, their hands linked and Andrew’s heart loud in his ears. He could barely hear the officiant over it, but he remembered his words.
He spoke solemnly, far calmer than he thought he could and Maxwell squeezed his hands. When it was Maxwell’s turn to speak, Andrew felt like the air was leaving his lungs. He was so sweet, and handsome, and pretty that Andrew had to fight to keep himself together. He also had to stop himself from scanning him like some kind of pervert. He needed to focus.
When it came time to exchange rings, Leo stepped forward, all smiles as he did so. They had considered asking Hewie, but this felt...better. Maria had understood, and when Andrew glanced out because Leo was approaching, he found her crying in the row behind May and Ford.
Leo handed the rings over easily, and it was time. Repeating back to the words wasn’t hard, not as he stared into Maxwell’s eyes the whole time. Maxwell repeated the same words, and Andrew watched his lips move. His voice rang out loud and clear before the officiant let out a soft chuckle.
"And with that, I hereby announce you as Mr. and Dr. Beckett! You may now kiss the groom!" Cheers went up as Maxwell wrapped his arms around Andrew’s neck and pulled him in, kissing him in a way that was no way appropriate for the younger eyes watching, but Andrew didn’t care.
He held the man who meant the world to him in his arms, his heart soaring.
Maxwell was his, and he belonged to Maxwell. Finally.
