(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 541: The little things
Andrew wanted to enjoy the time that he spent with his friends and family. He wanted to savor it, bask in the afterglow, but he was too excited about his upcoming honeymoon to truly appreciate those around him. They didn’t seem to mind.
It was clear from the way that they were sharing glances and little smiles that they knew.
It had been different for Ben and Amir when they had gotten married. They had already been marked for eons it felt like, and Amir was with child. They had gone on a short trip after the wedding, but that had only been after Amir had been cleared for travel. It wasn’t like Maxwell and Andrew’s wedding.
They were doing the more traditional route, without the lack of intimacy that normally came with tradition. They had certainly not held back on that point. But they were leaving for their honeymoon pretty much immediately after their wedding.
Andrew, of course, spent most of that time tending to his hungover husband who was doing his best not to inconvenience his family members, or moan and groan about the consequences of his own actions. He saved all that for Andrew, and Andrew glowed under the responsibility.
Andrew’s head was so in the clouds, so pleased and happy that when his head hit the pillow again, Maxwell wrapped up in his arms, he almost forgot that they were leaving for their honeymoon the next day.
~
Andrew didn’t mean to. He really hadn’t.
Andrew had just been changing in the morning, going over his own carryon suitcase just to make sure he had everything he, or Maxwell, would need. Maxwell, catching sight of Andrew’s open bag, made a soft thoughtful noise.
He then opened his own carryon to check that he had packed everything that he would need. That was when Andrew looked over and his heart nearly stopped.
Lace.
Andrew caught sight of lace.
Not just a small portion either, like a-a garter, or maybe, a pair of underwear. It was a pile. Mostly black, with flashes of white and red.
Andrew had a hard time keeping his breathing even, his pheromones intact. His body shuddered at just the implication of what he had seen.
Andrew didn’t even see anything else in the damn carryon! He was begging that there were other things inside of it, but he couldn’t ask. He didn’t want to know. If he found out, Andrew was worried that the small thread of his sanity remaining would snap, and they would never make it to their destination.
Andrew would make a mess of the man before they even got onto the plane.
Andrew wasn’t even sure they would leave this room.
So, Andrew didn’t see it. He avoided looking at Maxwell’s things after that like the plague, his mind racing as they paced up, hugged their families goodbye, and Maxwell and Andrew boarded the helicopter that would take them directly to the airport.
Normally, Maxwell would have wanted them to go by private jet, something that his family did own, but Andrew had convinced him to fly commercial. He wanted Maxwell to have a full honeymoon experience, and that included wandering around the airport, maybe getting a drink before boarding, and the excitement and anticipation when they called your boarding time.
Andrew wanted that. He really did. He had been so lost in what he wanted the experience to be that he forgot how rich Maxwell was, and how famous both Andrew and Maxwell were.
He was surprised when people began to swarm them, even more so when bodyguards showed up, surrounding Maxwell and Andrew. Andrew knew that they had to be with them, but they had hidden themselves so well that Andrew was surprised by their appearance.
Not Maxwell, however.
He held onto his newly minted husband’s hand, his other on his luggage, sunglasses on and a little smirk on his face. Cameras flashed, surprising Andrew who had never gotten this experience before, but Maxwell?
Maxwell looked like he was drinking this up.
Even the people who were attempting to confirm their flights, security, and other members of the airport staff were watching them, bug-eyed, while Andrew watched his dreams crash and crumble around him.
He had no idea two of the security team from their home would be traveling with him, and Maxwell hadn’t told him. Not because he had been hiding it, but he thought it would be obvious. They would have been traveling with them whether they were going through the airport on a commercial flight or in the family jet.
They had a damn family jet.
So what if Andrew had some care for the environment! That had been his whole freaking job before this, and for years!
They weren’t even allowed to do any of the cutesy, imaginative things that Andrew had thought. They were brought immediately to the first class club for their own safety, Maxwell got a cute little cocktail while Andrew felt all of his hopes and dreams leak from between his fingers.
Maxwell, noticing how his husband was deflating, reached out and cupped his face, all smiles.
"This is a rather interesting experience, Andy. I’ve enjoyed it so far." Maxwell told him, clearly trying to soothe Andrew’s battered heart.
"This isn’t what I wanted." Andrew confessed, their bodyguards sitting nearby sipping pops while they relaxed. Andrew and Maxwell were both wearing rather flowy, easy breathing outfits. Linen, soft, light colours. Not quite white, but as close as Andrew was willing to go.
They screamed honeymoon, and Andrew, using his phone, was already getting photos sent to him of the headlines announcing what Andrew and Maxwell were up to. Andrew had forgotten, he had been foolish to think that this would work out the way that he wanted.
Maxwell, however, seemed rather pleased with the outcome. He hadn’t known what to expect, and thus, he wasn’t disappointed. He was with Andrew, people knew what they were on, and he could feel how some people, men and women, were looking at Andrew and Maxwell with envy.
They were envious of them, and Maxwell puffed up more from it.
Andrew stirred his mocktail sullenly, scrolling across his phone on the internet, watching the photos that had only been taken of him and Maxwell only a few moments ago splash across his feed. He let out a hopeless sigh until a slender, pale hand slid across the table, covering Andrew’s phone and hand.
"Baby." Maxwell’s voice dripped sugary sweetness. Andrew felt his body tense. "Are you planning to ignore me? Are we fighting right now?" Maxwell’s voice wasn’t quiet, and even if he had been, the people around them were too busy trying to hear every last drop of gossip from them.
Andrew blinked, raising his gaze to meet the sultry, sweet blue gaze of his now husband. Andrew’s shoulders, which had been pulled up to his ears, dropped. He let out another sigh, soft, sad, and then shook his head. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"I’m not mad with you, I’m mad with myself." Andrew told him, flipping his hand over and grabbing Maxwell’s. He gave it a soft squeeze and Maxwell smiled softly.
"Why? I’ve never been to an airport like this before. I don’t know what you wanted to experience. I’m perfectly content with what is happening right now. I’m having a good time. Shouldn’t that matter more?" It was a jab that landed directly into Andrew’s heart.
Andrew dropped his gaze, sighed again, before he grabbed his mocktail and took a sip. It wasn’t as good as the ones he’d had at their wedding venue, but then again, Maxwell had had a direct hand in that. He had a feeling nothing would have lived up to them.
"I know, and your happiness is my top priority, I’m just...upset. I had a vision for how I wanted this to go. I’m just feeling dumb and stupid for forgetting an important aspect." Andrew confessed. Maxwell’s smile didn’t shift, but his eyes narrowed slightly.
"What did you forget that’s ruining this moment for you?" Maxwell asked and Andrew flushed. He glanced up at Maxwell, his soft expression, his kind eyes and the tightness of the grip on his hand. Possessive. Maxwell was possessive. Andrew knew that, enjoyed that.
"I forgot that everyone loves you." Andrew muttered. Maxwell’s eyes widened slightly, his mouth opening just enough that Andrew could tell that he’d really surprised the other man. "We’re surrounded as soon as we entered the airport. I forgot that people would do that. I know that you’re handsome, that’s a given, but I just forgot that everyone else knows that you’re handsome and won’t leave you alone because of it." Andrew told him gloomily.
Maxwell let out a startled laugh, turning his face away slightly as he covered his mouth with his hand. He squeezed Andrew’s hand with his own, a quick pulse that told Andrew he was still there, still with him.
"Baby...they were there for you." Maxwell told him. Andrew huffed, rolling his eyes.
"There’s no way. You’re Maxwell Beckett. They were harassing you. My rose-coloured dreams are ruined because they couldn’t give you any human decency." Andrew grumbled and Maxwell let out another laugh.
"And if I am Maxwell Beckett, you’re Dr. Andrew Beckett. Baby, if anything, I should be the one upset. Do you know how many people are eyeing you up, even here?" Maxwell asked and could feel how several people shifted awkwardly, turning as if they thought Maxwell was going to point at them directly. Andrew scowled, not agreeing with Maxwell in the slightest. Maxwell let out another disbelieving laugh. "Baby, look at me. You just said that everyone knows me, but you know what? No one knows you." Maxwell said, pointing towards Andrew.
Andrew grumbled, shaking his head, but Maxwell just smiled.
"I don’t matter." Andrew protested and Maxwell’s jaw tightened slightly.
"You do, because not only are you my husband, you’ve been involved in taking down two true alpha families, including one you’re supposed to belong to, you stole two of their heirs for your own family, you’re the heir of a huge fortune and company that previously no one knew who ran. You’re also tied to the Beckett family now through marriage, and the guest list for our wedding, when leaked, revealed that you personally know several powerful people from overseas. Without my influence." Maxwell said, raising an eyebrow.
Andrew wouldn’t admit how he knew them, Maxwell didn’t need the details.
"That’s not as cool as what you do." Andrew made a weak argument. Weak enough that Maxwell took pity on him, stood up, and then sat himself down in Andrew’s lap. To everyone’s surprise, but Andrew. Maxwell’s smile was possessive and full of love. Andrew’s heart skipped a beat.
