Chapter 570: The end is just a new beginning

"Maxy, are you feeling alright?" Andrew asked, his hand on his back, the man bent over in the bathroom, his hands on the edge of the toilet seat, his perfect hair unmoving.

"Why do I only throw up in this damn restaurant?" Maxwell complained. Andrew had no idea, but at the same time, he had a good reason for this time. Andrew patted his back, supporting him as Maxwell’s body convulsed, throwing up all the orange juice that he’d consumed earlier before they arrived.

It was a good idea that they had shown up early to the dinner. Maxwell had been fine when he had gotten into the car, had even been fine when they had arrived at the dedicated area that Andrew and Maxwell had booked.

Well, Maxwell had said he was going to book it, but Andrew had taken over the duty when Maxwell passed out as soon as they had gotten home the night before. Andrew had even let the person he was speaking to know that they were celebrating a pregnancy announcement and the congratulations that had come from them felt like Andrew’s chest was bursting with happiness.

However, Maxwell took a turn as soon as the door had closed behind them. Andrew rushed him to the bathroom, by his side, surrounding him in his pheromones to comfort him as he listened to Maxwell throw up.

"Ugh. This feels terrible." Maxwell muttered. Andrew wished that he could take his place.

"I’m sorry you’re feeling ill, Maxy. If I could, I would do it for you." Andrew told him sincerely, and Maxwell let out a dry laugh.

"You say that, and it just might happen." Maxwell warned. Andrew was serious though, and he would consider it a blessing if he was able to take this pain from Maxwell.

"Do you want me to go ask for a ginger ale or something to help settle your tummy?" Andrew asked. Maxwell breathed heavily for a moment, before he groaned.

"Yeah, and maybe a bag of ice or something for the back of my neck? I just feel so damn hot right now that I think that would help. Leave your jacket here though." Maxwell said and Andrew smiled.

With ease, he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over the other man’s shoulders. He gave his shoulders a squeeze through the jacket, pressing a kiss against Maxwell’s warm forehead.

"I’ll be back shortly. I’ll also see if anyone’s arrived." Andrew told him and Maxwell let out a soft groan.

"Fuck. Maybe bring some antacid medication or something." He muttered and Andrew smiled softly.

"Of course, my love. I’ll do just that." Andrew said, hesitating for only a second more before leaving Maxwell on his own for a moment. As soon as he was back in the room, a server was there, concern on their face.

"Is your husband alright?" They asked and Andrew gave a tight smile.

"Would I be able to ask you to grab something to help settle his stomach? Maybe ginger ale or something like it? I have to grab some medication from the car." Andrew told them and the server nodded.

"Would you like me to bring it to him in the bathroom or wait till you come back?" They asked and Andrew appreciated the concern.

"If his brother, Ben arrives, you can send him in to bring him the ginger ale. Otherwise, bring it to this room and I’ll run it. He’s a bit sensitive right now." Andrew hinted and the server nodded.

"Of course, sir."

Andrew left, came back, and found that only a few people had trickled in so far. It was the Gates family, two babies and all. May looked tired, as did the rest of the family but they all seemed to be glowing. Ellis looked good as well, his face plump, his arms full of little Daniel, Richard nearby to support both of them.

Jordan and Rose sat on the other side of Ford, both feeding little Fern. All of them smiled, before they realised that Maxwell wasn’t with him. Instead, he had a little bag in his hand, similar to a make up purse. Rose and May looked the most confused.

"Andy? Where’s Maxy?" May asked, looking the most worried out of everyone. Andrew gave a tight smile, glancing around until he spotted the glass of bubbling ginger ale. He grabbed it with a smile.

"He’s not feeling that well. I’ll be back soon. I left him in the bathroom." Andrew said not explaining himself further. Andrew didn’t care if he did either, since it would be obvious soon.

Andrew found Maxwell leaning against the wall of the bathroom, his eyes closed, looking exhausted. His eyes opened when he heard Andrew approach, looking pale and flushed at the same time.

"I didn’t get you any ice, but take the ginger ale first while I grab you some meds from the bag." Andrew told him. He waited until Maxwell had a good grip on the glass before he let go, then quickly found what he was looking for.

Within five minutes of taking the meds Maxwell was doing much better and the colour had slightly returned to his face. Andrew waited, watching him for a long moment before Maxwell got to his feet on his own. Andrew supported him, of course, and when Maxwell had taken a few steps, still wearing Andrew’s jacket but looking a lot better, Andrew led him over to the sink and helped him clean up. They joined the rest of the party only five minutes later.

May was scanning Maxwell like a hawk, and Ben and Amir who had arrived in the time that they were gone, with Kim and Jenny arriving with Leo and Alyssa in tow, everyone was slowly realising that something was going on.

Andrew, when he called for the dinner, it was around the time that they normally had their monthly dinner. It was a sneaky thing to do, something that Andrew felt was a move that Maxwell would be proud of him for doing. Sneaky, like his husband.

He was rubbing off on him.

"Are Luis and Tom on the way?" Andrew asked Ben. "What about Will?" Ben, who knew vaguely what was going on but wasn’t fully confirmed, gave a small smile. Mehar was with her great grandparents, letting Amir and Ben have a little date for the night.

"Will can’t make it. A last minute call from the hospital for a case that needed his help. He apologises for not making it. Mom and Dad were just behind us. Should be here at any minute." Ben confirmed as Andrew escorted Maxwell to his seat.

Maxwell sat, looking ill and shaking his head as he tucked Andrew’s jacket around him.

"It’s so damn embarrassing." Maxwell muttered and Ellis gave him a strange look.

"Why? What’s wrong?" He asked, Daniel fussing a little in his arms, but not crying. Maxwell gave his assistant a long stare for a long moment, his ears going pink before he sighed.

"I’m just embarrassed that I’ve thrown up twice here. Last time I didn’t make it to the bathroom." Maxwell admitted and May’s eyes widened.

"What?" She asked, shocked, and Andrew winced.

"He was nervous. We’d just had our fight and were trying to make up. I can’t blame him. I would have thrown up too." Maxwell glared at Andrew.

"But you didn’t." He growled and Andrew grinned.

"If I threw up, who would have taken care of us? I had to be strong for both of us." Andrew had to defend himself and Maxwell muttered, not angry, just embarrassed. That was when Luis and Thomas arrived, both apologising for being late and coming in to kiss both of the babies on their stomachs, knowing better than to kiss them on their foreheads.

Andrew and Maxwell let them settle, even let the server come and take the first round of drinks before Maxwell sighed loudly.

"I don’t like keeping things quiet, so, I feel like I should just rip the band aid off." Maxwell said. He sounded more like he was announcing that he was closing the business then that he was announcing his pregnancy. That was why everyone was tense, even Ben and Amir.

"What’s going on, Max?" Thomas asked, concern twisting his features. Maxwell grabbed Andrew’s hand like a lifeline, his face pale once more, and Andrew had a feeling that it was nervousness that had him throwing up, not morning sickness. Andrew held his hand tightly, offering him support easily.

"I’m pregnant." Maxwell said and a pin could have dropped. "And it’s twins." That brought gasps from around the room, hands slapping over mouths as Andrew raised their joined hands, pressing a kiss against Maxwell’s hand.

Then, roars from the group, pheromones everywhere, questions and congratulations all around the room while Andrew felt his stomach twist with happiness. Maxwell looked flushed and embarrassed, but happy all at the same time.

Ben shouted, "I knew it!" With a big grin on his face while Luis was sobbing. Kim wasn’t much better, Jenny having to be the strong one for them as her eyes sparkled with happiness and tears.

Ellis was a mess, along with Ford and the others. It was a good moment, one that Andrew knew that he and Maxwell would remember for the rest of their lives. Andrew was proud that Maxwell had managed to keep his cool and not cry as everyone else broke into tears. Happy because he knew that was something that Maxwell would have wanted for himself.

He remained at his side, making sure that Maxwell ate as everyone else celebrated. As he celebrated. Quiet, but proud, knowing that he was just too happy to contain himself. He was glad that everyone was at their side, with him and Maxwell, even as he worried about what could happen from this point on.

No matter what, Andrew would be there to support Maxwell through all of this. Through thick and thin, through the ups and downs of life. Andrew would be at his side, the same way that he knew that Maxwell would be at his side as well.

Surrounded by a love that Andrew knew his Mom had dreamed for him. Had manifested for him. He was sure that she was looking down on him, proud of the man that he had become, and the father that he was going to be.

Andrew was going to be fine. Andrew was going to make it. Love and kindness surrounded him, lifted him up so that he could give back with ease, and with just a gentle tug from Maxwell’s hand, Andrew found himself kissing the man softly.

"What are you thinking about, Baby?" Maxwell asked, his eyes scanning Andrew’s face.

"Just how perfect our lives are going to be." Andrew told him and Maxwell paused, before he gave him a soft, loving smile.

"Of course they are going to be. I won’t let them be any other way." Maxwell promised. The words sunk into Andrew’s bones, settling deep into his core and Andrew shuddered.

"I love you, Maxy." Andrew told him. Maxwell’s lips against Andrew’s was the only answer he needed.
