(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 572: Side story 2
"Do you have everything that you need?" Andrew asked, hovering.
"Yes, I do." Maxwell answered, chuckling.
"Are you sure?" Andrew asked, and Maxwell turned, his hand resting on his rather protruding stomach, a soft, loving, but frustrated look on his face.
"Baby, you made the list. You’ve checked over it more than twice. Why are you asking me if I have everything I need? As far as I’m aware, it’s my family’s hospital. They will have everything I need whether they like it or not." Maxwell’s sharp tone had Andrew wincing.
He knew that he was being too much. Hell, he knew he had been too much for the last two months, but Maxwell had put up with him coddling him. Who could blame him though? Maxwell had begun to balloon over the last few months. The twins were happy and healthy, but Maxwell was a tiny man and Andrew was...well, the opposite.
That was putting a lot of strain on Maxwell’s body. Andrew had to massage his ankles for half an hour at the end of each day so that Maxwell wasn’t in pain the next day. He also had begun massaging Maxwell’s hips and shoulders because the man was in a lot of pain carrying his children.
Andrew was full of worry for Maxwell, and his body, while Maxwell? He had accepted his fate. He was a lot calmer now that they’d passed the deadline where the children would have any problems if he suddenly went into labor. He was exhausted, but now? Now he was just enjoying himself.
He’d finished up most of the hand off to his Father only a day prior, and now he was going to be in the hospital for a few days before his C-section. Andrew felt like he was more nervous for everything that was about to happen than Maxwell, and none of it was about to happen to Andrew.
"While that may be true, there might be some things that you want at the hospital that you can’t get easily there." Andrew said carefully and Maxwell stared at Andrew for a long, awkward moment.
"If you’re there, I have nothing to worry about." Maxwell said. No hesitation, no hint of the man teasing. Andrew felt his breath stop at the trust and faith that the man had in him. Unable to control himself, Andrew pulled Maxwell into his arms, hugging the man tightly, but carefully and Maxwell easily hugged him back.
"I love you." Andrew whispered tenderly and Maxwell chuckled.
"I love you too, you big baby. You’re going to have to toughen up a little bit. We’re going to meet our babies soon, and what if I need you to advocate for me while that happens? Come on, Andy, it’s going to be alright. Will’s going to be there, Mom’s going to be there, and everyone else is going to be popping in and out. It’s going to be fine. We prepared for this, remember? No matter what happens, the children are going to be safe if they come early now, and you aren’t going to let them hurt me." It was hopeless at this point.
Andrew was crying now, holding onto his strong, wonderful husband. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"I just can’t shake the fear." Andrew whispered. "It’s so hard. I keep thinking about what happened to Jordan and my whole body just freezes. I just don’t like seeing you in pain, and I know that’s what we’re about to go into. I can’t help being worried." Andrew sobbed and Maxwell held him tighter.
"Baby, I understand, I do. But I know you’ll be able to pull through it. We’re in this together, and if it helps, I won’t feel the C-section." Maxwell said. Andrew sniffed.
"If you make it. They’re our kids. I worry that they are going to throw a curve ball and you’re going to-" Maxwell’s hand slid to Andrew’s mouth, silencing him.
"Hey, don’t say it out loud, or you could make it happen. You have enough power. I feel like you spoke about me getting pregnant and then it happened." Maxwell tried to joke, but Andrew was sniffling too much to find it funny. Maxwell pulled the other man down, kissing him carefully all over his face. "If you’re so worried, you should be making sure I’m at the hospital sooner and safer, shouldn’t you, Andy?" Maxwell’s gaze was soft and warm, which only made Andrew more emotional.
"I’m sorry for being such a crybaby." Andrew said, his voice shaking. His hands were too, but that wasn’t as noticeable. Maxwell’s smile grew.
"I like you a little sobby. It’s okay. Now, let’s get the bags in the car and get on our way, okay? Or else Mom is going to beat us there and then we’ll get a lecture. She’ll think we’ve been up to no good." Maxwell teased and that did bring a small smile to Andrew’s lips.
"Are you excited for when the pregnancy is over and you’re fully healed?" Andrew asked and watched as Maxwell let out a sigh. Andrew let out a small squeak when the other man grabbed Andrew’s cock through his pants, giving it a squeeze.
"All I’m going to say is that you better prepare yourself." Maxwell warned, his gaze narrowing as he licked his lips. Andrew almost felt like covering himself up.
"Maxy, please." Andrew said and Maxwell laughed, pulling back. He rested his hand on his stomach, smiling as he stood there in Andrew’s favourite sweater.
"It’s reasonable to warn you. Now let’s get going, muscles. My feet hurt."

Andrew was appreciative of the nicer chairs that they brought in for him and the others, especially as Luis fluttered over her heavily pregnant omega son as he laid on his back, laptop balanced between his baby bump and his chest as he attempted to type. He was still working on the smaller things that he could, emails that would need his response until he was fully on paternity leave.
That was a choice that Maxwell made, so that he didn’t lose his mind in the hospital. Of course, Andrew and everyone reasonable tried to argue against it, but the man wouldn’t hear it from anyone. He knew himself, and he was going to be on his back, waiting for a few days as they monitored him.
He would need something to keep his mind off of his discomfort, and when he phrased it like that? Well, Andrew couldn’t argue with him. So, Andrew sat at his side, watching Maxwell’s Mom tried to convince the workaholic to stop. He was about to give birth, he should be relaxing.
Maxwell just scowled at his Mom, but didn’t push off her soft hands as she touched and cared for him. They’d already spoken to not just Will, not just Michael, but also Maxwell’s Doctor. Everything seemed to be on track, and in two days, if everything went as planned, Maxwell would be giving birth to their children.
Andrew’s leg wouldn’t stop shaking.
"Do you two want anything to drink?" Andrew asked, needing to get up and do something, anything. Luis glanced at Andrew, sympathy in her gaze while Maxwell raised his gaze to his husband, love in his gaze.
"Orange juice please." Andrew fully expected that answer. For some reason the man was fixated on it. Andrew would have expected the man would have focused on one type, but Maxwell didn’t discriminate. Fresh orange, from concentrate. Pulp, no pulp, different brands. Cheap, expensive, the man didn’t care. If it tasted like oranges, he wanted it.
But he didn’t want the fruit. Oh no. Just the juice of oranges.
Andrew’s smile reached his eyes as he stared down at his precious husband. Andrew bent, brushing Maxwell’s hair away from his forehead as he leaned in and pressed a kiss against his forehead.
"Of course, my love." Andrew told him, before he turned his gaze to Luis. She let out a soft sigh.
"A caramel macchiato, please Andy." Andrew nodded. Having heard their orders, Andrew gave a last look at Maxwell, his precious husband, and headed down to the cafe below.
Surprisingly (not surprising at all) Kim and Ben had struck a deal to put one of the cafes into a ’free spot’ in the hospital. Andrew didn’t think it was a coincidence that the cafe had been sped-run soon after Maxwell and Andrew had announced their pregnancy. It was a bit tragic that it hadn’t been there for Amir’s first pregnancy, but it was there for Amir’s second one.
Strangely enough, Amir craved the same drink that he had for his first pregnancy, which meant that he spent a lot of time at the cafe in the hospital. It made Ben feel better, and Amir didn’t seem to mind being coddled in that way.
Amir had given birth about six weeks prior to another beautiful little girl. It had been a beautiful moment that both Maxwell and Andrew had been to there to witness. In this same room, with the newer chairs. Andrew and Maxwell had sat, side by side, as they supported Ben and Amir through the moment.
Amir’s grandparents had remained behind, looking after the sweet Mehar while her parents brought another life into the world. Amir’s second birth had no issues, was even easier then the first, and while he looked exhausted, he also looked alive in a way that warmed Andrew’s heart.
The sweet new baby screamed so loud that Andrew wanted to laugh. Amir cried the whole time, and Andrew couldn’t have prevented his own happy tears if he had tried. Maxwell held Andrew’s hand the whole time, smiling at him, knowing that this was going to be them in a few weeks.
The moment was made even sweeter when Amir and Ben told them the name that they had decided for the sweet baby. Ahana Maxine Beckett. It took all of them a moment to realise what they had done, and when they had, Maxwell, the poor pregnant man, stiffened.
He hadn’t expected something like that, nor was Andrew aware that they were going to do something so sweet. Amir had said that it felt right. Maxwell had been there for him even when Amir’s family hadn’t been there for him. Standoffish, but always there when Amir needed him. Amir knew that when he’d been in the depths of his depression after his miscarriage that Maxwell had been there, taking care of both Ben and Amir without them being aware of it.
Maxwell hadn’t been able to stop his tears when the man had told him that, and the already emotional moment had thickened until outsiders felt like they couldn’t enter.
That led to this moment, where Andrew was wondering, more to himself than to anyone else, why Luis was with them right now? Amir was only six weeks postpartum, he needed extra care. Then, Andrew in his own anxiety, answered his own question.
Luis would not miss the first birth of her omega son come hell or high water.
Andrew was just feeling nervous, and worried. Even as he got to the ground floor, heading for the cafe that was opened late for this exact purpose, Andrew gratefully gave his order to the barista there, paid with a card that had a fixed amount on it (per his request from Kim so that he didn’t have to tell everyone who he was), and then waited off to the side.
This area was full of people like him. Waiting for something to happen, both good and bad, mixed with a few nurses and Doctors who were taking breaks in the middle of their long shifts. Andrew took a moment to take a few deep breaths, roll his shoulders, and relax himself.
He needed to be there for Maxwell right now. He needed to not be anxious nor questioning others intentions around him. He knew that their families cared about them, he was just being silly due to the stress on his shoulders.
Maxwell wasn’t worried. The Doctors weren’t worried. Andrew was just stressed for no reason, and honestly? If anything, he should have faith in his Mom who would make sure that Maxwell had a safe birth. Everything was going to be okay.
