Chapter 78: On the Table

Adrian and Ash slowly pulled away from each other’s embrace. Adrian gently wiped the tears from Ash’s cheeks. "Stop crying," he murmured.

"I want to see my mother," Ash said softly.

Adrian’s gaze hardened for a moment. "After everything she did to you?"

"She’s still my mother," Ash insisted.

Adrian was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded. "Okay...I’ll take you to her."

They returned to the house to find Grandmother still eating her breakfast. She looked up and asked, "Have you sorted out your issue?"

Ash nodded.

"Good," she said, smiling gently. "Now finish your breakfast."

Once they were done, Adrian said, "Granny, we have to leave."

Grandmother frowned. "I thought you were spending the day here."

"I wish I could," Adrian replied. "But I have a meeting at noon."

She nodded in understanding, then glanced at Ash. "But Bunny isn’t coming with you?"

Adrian stepped closer. "Can we talk privately for a moment?"

Grandmother agreed and guided him outside, leaving Ash curious about their conversation.

After a few minutes, they returned. Grandmother handed Ash a few flatbreads wrapped and a calabash full of porridge. "Take this with you," she said warmly. Then they bade her goodbye and left for the city.

Once there, they headed to the prison where Ash’s mother was detained. On reaching the visitor’s waiting room, Adrian stayed at the door as Ash stepped inside to see her mother.

A few minutes later, Ash returned, his expression heavy.

"Why are you sad?" Adrian asked gently. "What did your mother say?"

"She refused to see me," Ash admitted. "She says she doesn’t want to. Does she really hate me now?"

Adrian sighed, resting a reassuring hand on Ash’s shoulder. "I don’t think so. Maybe she just needs some time alone." Then he added, "Come...I’ll drive you to the penthouse."

Ash shook his head. "No. Take me to Lucien’s apartment. I need some explanations from him."

Adrian opened his mouth to object but then nodded. "Alright," he said quietly.

When they reached Lucien’s apartment, they found him still curled up in bed.

"Wake up," Ash called gently.

"I want to sleep more," Lucien mumbled, pulling the covers over his head.

Ash rolled his eyes. "Fine. I’ll eat the flatbreads and porridge Grandma gave me to bring for you."

Lucien’s eyes immediately shot open. He scrambled out of bed and hurried toward the living room. "Where is it? I’m already salivating!"

Ash followed, smirking. "I knew that would wake you up."

Lucien grinned, playful. "I can’t wait to taste Grandma’s love."

Adrian, who had been sitting on the couch, stood and glanced at his wristwatch. "I have to go," he said.

Lucien’s grin faltered. "Wait, you’re leaving Ash here?"

Ash tilted his head. "Why? Are you afraid of me?"

Lucien scratched the back of his neck, a bead of sweat forming. "Why should I be?"

"Okay," Ash replied, pouring porridge into a bowl and reaching for the flatbread. "After eating, we have a lot to talk about."

Lucien swallowed hard, watching as Adrian smirked and left, closing the door behind him.

After Lucien finished eating. Ash leaned forward. "Tell me what you did to the doctors when..."

Before he could finish, Lucien let out a small groan, pressing his hand to his temple. "Ugh...headache...dizzy..."

Ash’s eyes widened with concern. "Can we go to the doctor?"

Lucien shook his head quickly. "No! No... I just need to stay quiet and rest."

"What about headache pills?" Ash asked, hesitating. "Should I order them?"

"No," Lucien replied firmly. "You can’t take pills arbitrarily when you’re pregnant. Doctor’s consent is needed."

Without waiting for Ash to respond further, he turned and walked toward the bedroom.

...

At Mega Company, the boardroom hummed with discussion. Adrian sat at the center of the table, listening as an employee made a presentation.

A notification pinged on his phone. He glanced down:

Ash: The new line you bought for me.

Adrian typed back quickly: "Okay. Let me save it right now."

Another message followed:

Ash: Lucien is feeling unwell. I asked him if we could go to the doctor, but he refused, saying rest and silence are his medicine. I’m really worried. Can you talk to him to agree to go?

Adrian couldn’t help a small, quiet laugh. Around the table, his employees exchanged puzzled glances, they had never seen their boss laugh like this. Adrian noticed their stares and quickly fixed his expression, giving them a sharp look that made them look away as the presentation continued.

...

At the school trip, Naomi and Martin sat beside the beach, watching the waves roll in while the cold wind blew around them.

Naomi wore a bikini, and Martin sported shorts. Nearby, a few female omegas were swimming and laughing in the water.

Martin glanced at Naomi. "If you like them, you could try a shot. Maybe one will give you a chance."

"They’re not my type," Naomi replied, shrugging.

Martin pressed on, teasing, "What kind of omega is your type, then?"

"You," Naomi said with a small laugh.

Martin’s eyes widened. "Me? Really?" he asked pointing at himself.

Naomi chuckled softly. "I’m joking," she added, then her tone softened. "I wish Ash were here."

Martin smirked. "Ash? He’s busy playing lovey-dovey with Alpha Lucien right now. Even if you had a mate, maybe you couldn’t have come anyway."

Naomi’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Who told you I don’t have one? In fact...soon, I’m going to be a dad."

Martin froze, confusion spreading across his face.

Naomi leaned closer, murmuring something into his ear. His eyes widened even more.

He blinked and asked seriously, "Does Ash know?"

Naomi shook her head. "I have to tell him, but not now. When I’m ready."

...

That evening, Adrian arrived, carrying boxes of pizza. He found Ash absorbed in a video game.

"Where’s Lucien?" Adrian asked.

"Uh...in bed, I think," Ash replied, distracted.

Adrian called out, raising his voice, "Lucien! I brought pizza!"

Within a minute, Lucien rushed in, a bright smile on his face. He eagerly opened the boxes, sniffing deeply. "They smell amazing!"

Ash stared at him, puzzled. "Are you sure you’re sick?"

"Mmmh, " Lucien said, grabbing a slice of beef pizza and taking a big bite. "But that doesn’t mean I don’t have an appetite."

Adrian laughed and nudged Ash. "Come on, take your pizza too."

Ash set down the video controller and joined them at the dining table. He bit into his pizza slowly, eyes tracking Lucien. Seems he’s a bit better, Ash thought.

Finally, he spoke. "Lucien, now can you tell me what happened when we left you at..."

Before he could finish, Lucien lifted his pizza box and said with a grin, "I need to lie on the bed while eating, it’s more comfortable that way."

Adrian chuckled.

Ash’s patient snapped. "Don’t try to dodge! You have been avoiding my question since this morning."

Lucien froze, standing still, while Ash moved closer, his gaze sharp.

"Did you...kill them?" Ash asked directly.

Lucien let out a small laugh. "What do you think?"

"I want you to tell me," Ash pressed, his voice tense. "Because I can’t believe my mother did it."

Lucien’s expression turned serious, his eyes meeting Ash’s. "Tomorrow is your mother’s court day. We’ll hear her admit it, or deny it. You’ll get your answer then."
