Chapter 103: Ch 103: Liam, Get Married - Part 2

Liam’s brain suddenly came to a halt before it restarted, and he blinked at Emperor Kaiden with a shocked expression.

"Wait a minute-! What kid? What adoption? What are we talking about here?"

Liam asked, trying to come to terms with what was happening. Seeing his confusion made the Emperor sigh, and he gave Liam an almost impatient look.

"Shuu wants someone to adopt Lady Sera’s son. The child was left in the imperial palace without any guardian, and since Shuu is so soft-hearted, he has decided to raise him. So I have chosen you for the job."

Sudden understanding passed over Liam.

He was well aware of the political structure of the imperial palace to know that having the kid around without any named protection was a bad idea. But it would be equally bad if the imperial family adopted the kid.

Even if everyone knew that Lady Sera’s son had no relation to Emperor Kaiden, the fact that it was a child born in the imperial palace and had both Lady Sera’s and Emperor Kaiden’s features made him hard to ignore.

Things would get so much worse if someone decided to use that kid in the future and cause chaos.

"I understand. But still, a week to get married...? I don’t even think I have a candidate in mind."

Liam sighed as he considered what to do. He also tried to recall a few family members who had daughters old enough to marry him. But the most eligible batch was all in their early to mid-twenties.

"Do you need my help-"

"There is no need for the emperor to step in. I will find someone to marry me in a week. I promise you this."

Liam bowed and left the room. He suddenly had a mission to fulfil.

First, he needed to discreetly spread the information to trusted sources that he was looking for a wife. Then, he would need to screen a lot of people, and then...

He did not get very far when a hand reached for his shoulder and stopped him dead in his tracks. Liam looked behind him to see who had stopped him, only to see Baron Conner standing behind him.

The count was an old face at court and someone who kept his cards close. He usually did not like to participate in politics, so Liam felt a little conflicted when he faced him.

Still, he kept a smile on his face and looked at the count.

"What can I help you with today, Count? Is there anything you want from me specifically?"

He asked, but the count did not reply to him immediately.

Instead, he looked around before he gestured for Liam to follow him.

They ended up in a small office, and the count locked the door behind him.

"Sir Liam, I have a favor to ask you. As you know, my daughter is starting to push her early thirties, and I am worried about her future. She refuses to settle down, saying how it would be a betrayal to her god. And yet, when I ask her to go to the temple and become a devotee, she gives me a look...so I was hoping you would be able to help her..."

Liam waited for the Baron to continue speaking. But the Baron was finished speaking at the moment.

"And...why are you telling me this?"

Liam asked, finally getting annoyed that the Baron was not getting to the point.

"A-About that...since you are not married and seem uninterested in women...I was hoping that you could marry my daughter. You will gain a wife, and my daughter won’t have to worry about being unfaithful to her god."

Baron Conner finally told Liam the whole truth with a hopeful look in his eyes. He also looked desperate...but his conditions were too extreme.

What kind of man would want to marry a wife and never touch her even once? Not only that, but there seemed to be a huge misunderstanding here.

"Excuse me, Baron Conner, but I have to ask you something-why do you think I have no interest in women? I might not like to show my interest in the same way as some...other people, but I do like women, and I want to marry one as well for that reason."

Liam immediately corrected the Baron, only to get a blank look from him.

"You...like women...? Are you sure? Not that I doubt you or anything...but still...those rumors about you..."

The Baron looked shocked. Liam could tell that the older man was not faking it either. He was actually beyond shocked by what had happened.

’What rumors is the Baron talking about? I have not heard of any rumors...’

Liam was usually up to date on all rumors inside the imperial palace and even outside. He liked to be well informed in all regards, and this time was no different.

The Baron looked startled by Liam’s words and immediately looked at him with wide eyes.

"Do you truly not know about the rumors? You know...the one between you and Emperor Kaiden? You are so devoted to him that I believed they were true..."

The Baron looked beyond shocked, and Liam sighed.

"Baron, what rumors are you talking about?"

He asked, and the Baron finally realized that Liam truly seemed to have no idea about the rumors.

"T-The rumors about you being in love with Emperor Kaiden. Are they not true? But you look so devoted to Emperor Kaiden that..."

The Baron stopped speaking as he noticed the green look on Liam’s face. The man looked like he had swallowed something truly vulgar.

"Me...and Emperor Kaiden? How can anyone...? No way-! That is not true at all. Don’t you dare think any of this is true."

Liam shouted, and the Baron nodded.

"T-Then...does that mean...you will..."

"I will meet your daughter and have a talk with her. What we decide to do will depend on this ’talk’ of ours. This is the most I am willing to offer you at this moment."

Liam gave the conditions in his confused state, and the Baron looked thankful.

"Alright. I will tell my daughter Elysia about this. She will meet you tomorrow, and hopefully, we will have good news soon."
