The maid was crying, and everyone was looking at Shuu like he had made one of the biggest blunders of his life.

’What a simple yet effective trick. Anyone would hold me accountable if the maid cried like this and got attention.’

Shuu was ready to face the music. He held his breath and looked at Duke Inferno and his son standing right behind him, with the maid in his arms. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Duke Inferno seemed to know the truth, and he looked amused. But Alfred Inferno looked angry, and his eyes glared at Shuu as if he wanted to stab Andrew but was somehow doing his best to hold himself back.

"Hey you! Who do you think you are to use your authority as you please? If you are not going to treat these servants as humans, then you don’t deserve to have them. Hey, you all! You don’t have to respect or serve this rude person from now on."

Alfred Inferno did not seem to care for Shuu’s status as he issued these orders, and the servants quickly paused what they were doing to look at him and Shuu.

The maid in Alfred’s arms quickly looked at him with a concerned expression on her face.

"B-But how can we do that? We are maids of the imperial palace. We cannot just ignore Emperor Kaiden’s companion as we wish. There are consequences to that kind of thing..."

The maid whispered, but Alfred did not seem to care.

"So what if there are rules like that? There are rules in place to protect you all as well. And I am just exercising these rules. If a member of the imperial family ordered you to tend to this rude companion, then I, as another member of the imperial family, am telling you that you don’t need to do that."

The maids looked gratefully at Alfred and gave Shuu a superior look that he ignored.

It was such a clumsy attempt to undermine Shuu’s position that he did not even feel like talking about it.

’Are these people kids or something? What are they even trying to do here? I don’t feel like spending time on them to explain things.’

Shuu was already too tired for all this, so he just turned around to head back to his room. He had not even taken a few steps before someone grabbed his shoulder and turned him around.

"Hey, where are you going? First, you are rude to the maid, and now you are rude to me? Where are you getting all this courage from? You are not even a member of the imperial family-"

Alfred reached out to grab Shuu, but he responded faster and grabbed that offending hand before he twisted it around. A sickening crack was heard, and Alfred Inferno let out a startled sob the next minute.

Even Shuu felt his heart sink at that noise, and he immediately turned around, only to see all the maids looking at him in frozen shock and then at Alfred, who was clutching his broken wrist.

"Y-You monster! You broke my wrist just because I called you out once? Do you have no shame? I cannot allow someone like you to remain by my cousin’s side. I will need to go and inform him about this-"

Alfred flinched at the pain he felt in his arm, but he was determined to tattle to Emperor Kaiden. Shuu had half a mind to stop him, but the maids placed subtle obstacles in his way to obstruct him.

It was clear that the maids wanted Shuu to get in trouble with the emperor, and Shuu could not even blame them this time.

Still, he followed after Alfred at a steady distance for some time. But he did look behind once, only to see Duke Inferno standing in his place and smiling back at Shuu. That smile disturbed Shuu enough to make him hurry.

Princess Danielle was going through her normal day when a pang of longing suddenly hit her.

It was a subtle emotion that she had seldom felt, and yet, it felt as if it had been modified and enhanced by something. Her hand reached toward her heart to check, only to feel like she was about to hurl her food.

Everything inside her told her that she needed to head toward Emperor Kaiden’s chambers since he could make it all better. Her instincts were forcing her to love the emperor at all costs.

’How annoying. This is not right. I should not be feeling like this...’

And yet, it was hard for Princess Danielle to focus on anything at the moment. Her eyes looked glazed over, and she was having a hard time breathing. That was why, despite knowing that she should not, she ended up in front of Emperor Kaiden’s office.

’I see why the other people who had the goddess’s mark wanted to be with Kaiden so much and even mistook it for love. This feeling is so intense that it’s not allowing me to even breathe.’

Now that she was close to Kaiden, Princess Danielle could breathe easier again, and she finally found the courage to open the door and enter without waiting for a reply.

Emperor Kaiden’s eyes looked back at Danielle with a blank expression, and she could tell that he was not happy to see her. But since she was his brother’s fiancée, he decided to tolerate her and even put his pen aside to look at her.

"Is there something you need from me, Princess Danielle? If not, then you should head back now. As you can tell, I am rather busy at the moment."

Emperor Kaiden pointed toward the stuff all around him. He was working on some project right now, and Danielle felt like she should not disturb him.

But the oppressive feeling she had been experiencing for some time was slowly easing up, and she did not want to let that feeling go to waste.

So, despite knowing that it was not right, Danielle decided to be bold and took a seat.
