Chapter 84: Legendary Figure

"Hooooooowl..."

In the darkening forests, the sound of the wolf’s howling reverberated through the sky like a haunting lullaby.

It was getting late, and therefore cold.

The sledge was rapidly sliding down the road.

At that moment, they came across a sign—Snowberry Village 1 km—they were getting really close.

In that moment, the reindeer started slowing down as they came across a fallen tree that had blocked the road.

"Last week’s blizzard must’ve knocked over this tree. Strange, usually these trees would be cleared the next day if they happen to fall..."

The old man mumbled.

In that moment, a figure stepped out from the forest. He walked over the knocked-over tree and sat down on it.

He was wearing a dark green overcoat, had a long tongue that couldn’t stay inside his mouth, and had spiky hair, as if he’d been electrocuted.

"Who is he?"

Machary asked.

"...Trouble."

The old man said coldly, and then he forced a smile into his face, and said,

"Lord Devon, how may I be of assistance on this lovely day? We just encountered this knocked-over tree and were hoping that maybe you can help with it?"

"...Heh."

Devon laughed, knocked his fist against the tree, and said.

"Sure, I’ll help... For a payment, of course. I don’t ask you to pay me, as you have a good relationship with us, Grinding Griefs, but those players behind you, on the other hand..."

"...He is part of the Grinding Grief. I’ve heard rumors about them, and apparently they’re known griefers. They find enjoyment ruining other people’s gaming experience."

Abigail said with an ugly expression.

He was most likely the worst kind of person they could come across, and she could tell that he was a High Ranker as well.

"...It’s probably best to just pay."

The old man whispered to them, and then he turned to Devon and asked.

"How much?"

"...I am feeling generous today, so I am willing to lift this tree for 1 Square Banknote. How does that sound?"

Devon asked with a smile.

It brought a grave expression to the old man’s face, as that kind of money was something that even he had a hard time getting.

"1 Square Banknote... That is 10,000 square coins. It’s a hundred dollars of real-life money. That’s not cheap."

Machary gritted his teeth.

"You’re rather close to the Rose Records territory. Are you sure that you should be lingering this close? They might think that you are creeping into their territory."

The old man said.

"Hahaha... Rose Records... They are only holding this territory because my boss allows them to. We can take it whenever we want, so why the fuck should I care what they think?"

Devon said with a smirk.

"Is that so?"

A voice suddenly came.

SWOOSH!

In that moment, a curved edge of force slashed through the air. It was a flying slash of energy, looking like a magical spell.

"Huh?"

Devon jumped, pulled out his dual daggers, and blocked the flying slash. The blue light of the energy spell flickered as it clashed against the silver blades.

"HAAAAH!"

In that moment, he redirected the flying slash away, and it headed straight to the sky that was about to turn dark.

The flying slash attack stopped high in the air and exploded into particles of blue light before disappearing.

"Lord Waylen."

The old man bowed with a small smile.

Dragging behind countless animal corpses, a black-haired man walked over. He looked to be around the same age as Fang Raon.

He had a blue-bladed sword in one hand, and had a really handsome face that was marred by a deep scar across his left eye.

Despite that, Abigail and Poppy were still taken aback by how attractive he was.

"Waylen... Heh."

Devon grinned.

Thud!

Waylen dropped the dead animals to the ground, and with one hand, lifted the knocked-over tree and tossed it to the forest.

"You really are bold to come here to extort people coming to our village. What if we come to your village and destroy the only bridge that goes there?"

Waylen asked.

"...You wouldn’t dare."

Devon said with a smile.

"You have exaggerated Grinding Grief’s strength. You should go back to your leader. He knows what’s best for you. You fools running around wild will just destroy everything he built."

Waylen said coldly.

"..."

Devon’s smile froze over, and he twirled his daggers before sheathing them in his belt. He then scoffed and took off.

He ran fast and was soon gone.

"Lord Waylen, we’re heading to Snowberry Village. It would be an honor to give you a ride as well."

The old man said with a smile.

"...I appreciate that."

Waylen picked up the dead animals, tossed them to the back of the sledge, and then sat down next to Ragnar.

He took a second glance at Ragnar and thought, ’What a massive guy...’

"Sir Waylen. My name is Machary, and I am the new recruit of Rose Records. I’ve come here to join the guild’s ranks!"

Machary stood up and saluted like a good soldier, but he had to quickly sit back down because the sledge started moving again.

"Ah, it’s nice to meet you. We’re in need of some fresh blood. It looks like you’re the first to arrive from the new batch of recruits."

Waylen said with a nod.

"I am really excited."

Machary said with a smile but then remembered something and looked at Fang Raon.

"Fang Raon, you’re also joining Rose Records, right? I mean, you took part in the training exercise."

"I don’t know... I haven’t officially joined, so I don’t know yet whether they would even want me or whether I will even join."

Fang Raon said.

"...Your name is Fang Raon?"

In that moment, Waylen looked at him with a serious look, and Fang Raon instinctively tensed up, and he nodded as confirmation.

"Teacher Rock has talked a great deal about you. You must be a very special person."

"Teacher Rock? Wait, Fang Raon, how do you know him?"

Machary asked.

"He taught me a little while back on the 6th floor. Why? Is he famous or something?"

Fang Raon asked.

"Of course he is famous. How do you not know him?!"

Abigail cried out in shock.

She thought that Fang Raon must’ve been living without Internet, because how could he not know about him?

"Rock is a legendary figure. Before even the days of Black Online, he built the entire Rose Enterprise with his own hands, and he is the reason why it is one of the biggest and most successful companies in the world today.

"In Black Online, he made his reputation for being an excellent teacher. In the early days of the tower, he taught every single member of Dead Redemption.

"Do you know what Dead Redemption is? Of course, you don’t. It is the strongest guild of the tower.

"Dead Redemption has gotten 20 First Clears in the tower. They’re the only ones that have reached the 55th floor, and they’re undoubtedly the strongest guild in the tower.

"They only have ten players, but that is more than enough for them. Those ten players create the strongest raid party in the game.

"And Rock taught all of them how to work as a team, which is the reason why they’re so successful!"

Machary said excitedly.

He was the reason why he joined Rose Records in the first place—to be taught by the legendary Rock Rose himself.
