Bloodline of the Wizard-Chapter 4 - Erosion
Chapter 4: Chapter 4 Erosion
"Meditation-induced excessive accumulation of energy particles within the body, which then invades and erodes organs, causing varying degrees of damage to bodily functions?!"
Ronan flipped through the memories of his predecessor, eventually pinpointing the cause of his current "symptoms."
"Meditation can harm the body too?!"
His complexion suddenly turned rather ugly.
He finally understood why the constitution of this body was so poor.
He had initially thought it was because his predecessor was born a noble, a young man who knew no restraint and was hollowed out by indulgence in wine and women.
Now, it seemed that the primary reason was prolonged exposure to the erosion of energy particles.
"Due to poor aptitude, I have to spend much more time on meditation than others.
The massive accumulation of energy particles in the body, compounded by the inability to afford magic potions for resolution, has led to deteriorating health, even worse than that of an ordinary person..."
Ronan looked somber.
The memories he merged with were fragmented and incomplete, and having never mastered the basics of meditation before, he had never noticed this issue.
Looking back now, he realized that many wizards suffered from the problem of energy particle erosion.
But it wasn't paid much attention.
It was probably because of the opening phrase of the "Basic Meditation Technique" — The soul is the immortal destination.
For wizards, the ultimate goal of cultivation is to pursue the so-called eternal existence of the soul; nothing else is indispensable.
That included their own physical bodies.
Moreover, when a Wizard Apprentice is promoted to an Official Wizard, their physical body receives a slight enhancement.
Furthermore, they can later use spells to modify their bodies.
"No wonder those wizards he remembered seeing all looked either unusually old or weirdly ugly... Is this the plight of lower-level wizards?"
Ronan felt powerless for a moment.
He wasn't particularly vain, but he could accept being slightly unattractive; however, he couldn't accept having the body of a sixty-year-old at the age of sixteen.
Following this trend in training, it wouldn't be long before he guessed he'd need a walking stick to move around.
Climbing trees would probably be out of the question too; he'd have to eat, drink, and relieve himself all in a tree.
"That would be totally screwed up..."
Ronan imagined himself tremblingly clutching branches, peeing himself mid-air, and found the scene unbearable to witness.
Solving the problem of energy particle erosion is actually quite simple.
One way is to control the frequency of meditation.
Decrease the number of meditation sessions and increase the interval between them.
After one session, let the body naturally expel the excess energy particles before the next one; this would mitigate a lot of issues.
But this would undoubtedly slow down the pace of cultivation significantly, making Ronan's already pitiful talent even worse.
Another method is to take magic potions.
But that option is even less feasible.
The cheapest remedy potion starts at over ten low-level magic stones. With that kind of money, Ronan would rather buy potions that directly enhance spiritual power.
Wanting neither to slow down the pace of cultivation nor to spend money, there's only one option left...
"Train."
Ronan exhaled a short breath, muttering gloomily, "From today onwards, physical training officially becomes part of the daily cultivation routine."
This was the most straightforward method.
Strengthen the body and then staunchly resist the invading energy particles!
Poor people can only rely on themselves.
After half an hour of busy work, Ronan collected a full jar of morning dew.
This thing is a type of wizard material that's relatively easy to obtain. Ronan had read several books last night and began consciously collecting.
He placed a jar full of morning dew in a cool shade, grabbed a bunch of sage leaves, crushed them, and quickly brushed his teeth. Then, he started preparing his breakfast.
Breakfast was simple, a small pot of mixed-grain porridge.
With no side dishes for the porridge, he just added a bit of stone honey left from his predecessor, the age of which was unknown.
Unexpectedly, the taste was not bad.
Ronan squatted at the cabin door, hungrily gulping down the porridge, while at the same time, he opened his character panel.
[Name: Ronan Damien]
[Age: 16]
[Talent: No Attribute Affinity]
[Strength: Level 1 Wizard Apprentice (86%)]
[Skill: Basic Meditation Technique (Entry-level 5/100)]
Over the night, his strength progress hadn't moved, but his proficiency in the Meditation Skill had increased by five points.
At this moment, Ronan's mood was no longer as excited and joyous as last night.
Mainly because he had studied the panel all night and found that it seemed to have no other function apart from showing his cultivation status in real-time.
"It seems I still have to rely on myself..."
Ronan felt somewhat gloomy. After hurriedly finishing breakfast and washing the dishes, he descended the tree along the long vine in front of his house.
Now was the perfect time for morning exercise.
The task of enhancing his physique was urgent, and Ronan took action immediately.

He briefly planned out his running route for the morning.
"Follow this path straight ahead, turn right under the fourth oak tree, and when you see a mud pit, go around to the left..."
"If you encounter any danger, immediately turn back!"
Feeling prepared, Ronan began jogging slowly along the forest path.
The paths in the forest were uneven, sometimes with obstructing rocks and dead trees.
However, these obstacles were suitable for exercise.
After running for a while, Ronan started to sweat, and his breathing became much quicker.
In fact, if talking about exercise, the grass near the lake was the perfect place.
But since witnessing a wizard fight there yesterday, Ronan had temporarily decided not to go there.
The open field of the grassland offered no place to hide in case of trouble.
His robe, soaked with sweat, clung unpleasantly to his skin; the bulky sleeves and hem were cumbersome.
Ronan thought about changing his clothes when he got back; he remembered that he had a set of light hunter's gear among the clothes left by his predecessor, which would be more suitable for moving through the forest.
"At this point, who cares about wizard etiquette, wearing a wizard robe doesn't necessarily make one a wizard..."
Ronan panted heavily, his hair completely wet.
Pushing through a bush, he saw water bubbling out from under a large tree ahead and gradually slowed his pace.
"I must have run about seven or eight li by now..."
Ronan wasn't too sure, casually pulling out a golden pocket watch from his chest to check the time.
By now, nearly an hour and a half had passed since he left his treehouse.
Several areas on his body were unintentionally scratched by branches, leaving traces of blood that stung with the sweat.
"Good thing there aren't any large wild animals in this area, otherwise I wouldn't dare venture so deep..."
Ronan thought as he walked toward the water-spouting tree hole.
Approaching the tree hole, he scooped up a handful of water to taste and found it pleasantly cool and sweet.
After quickly washing up, Ronan removed his shoes and soaked his feet in.
