Part 8: A Mafia Meeting... and a Little Chaos.
The Moretti mansion was never quiet, but today, it was particularly loud-mostly because Leo had decided that sneaking into the meeting room during an important discussion was a brilliant idea.
Dante stood at the head of the long mahogany table, his lieutenants seated around him, their faces serious. The Santini problem was growing, and whispers of new threats kept surfacing. This meeting was crucial.
Then there was Leo.
Hidden behind one of the bookshelves, Leo peeked through a gap, grinning mischievously. His heart pounded with excitement. He had finally managed to sneak into one of Dante's serious mafia meetings! This was where the real action happened.
What he didn't expect, however, was Marco standing right behind him.
"Enjoying the view, kid?" Marco whispered, causing Leo to jump so hard he almost knocked over a lamp.
Leo spun around, eyes wide. "Shhh! You'll blow my cover!"
Marco raised an eyebrow. "Kid, your 'cover' is about as solid as a wet paper bag."
Before Leo could argue, Dante's deep voice cut through the room.
"Leo."
The entire room went silent. The air grew thick with tension. The lieutenants turned their heads toward the bookshelf.
Leo froze. Oh crap.
Slowly, he turned and peeked from behind the shelf. Dante's dark eyes locked onto him with a mix of exhaustion and mild amusement.
"Uh... hey, Uncle Dante." Leo gave a nervous smile. "I was just, um... checking for dust?"
Dante sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Marco. Bring him here."
Marco smirked. "With pleasure." He grabbed Leo by the collar of his hoodie and dragged him over to the table, plopping him down in an empty chair.
Leo straightened up and folded his arms, trying to look serious and mafia-like. "So. What are we talking about?"
One of the older lieutenants, Salvatore, let out a heavy sigh. "This is a family business meeting, not a daycare."
Leo scoffed. "Well, technically I'm family."
Another lieutenant, Vincenzo, leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Dante, are we really going to let the kid sit in on this?"
Dante studied Leo for a long moment. Then, much to everyone's surprise, he shrugged. "Why not?"
Leo's eyes widened. "Wait-seriously?"
Dante leaned back in his chair. "You want to be in the mafia, don't you?"
Leo nodded eagerly.
"Then listen. And keep your mouth shut."
Leo quickly zipped his lips and straightened his posture, excitement buzzing in his chest. This is it. This is my moment!
Salvatore groaned. "This is going to be a disaster."
Serious Business (and a Little More Chaos)
Dante turned his attention back to the table. "Alright, let's get back on track. Giovanni Santini is testing us. He's waiting for a reaction. If we act too soon, we play right into his hands. If we wait too long, he'll think we're weak."
Vincenzo nodded. "And what about the new players? There's talk of someone funding the smaller gangs, giving them weapons. Could be an outside force trying to disrupt our balance."
Dante's expression darkened. "We need to find out who."
Leo, despite his excitement, was actually listening-for once. He frowned. "Wait. If Giovanni is trying to provoke you, and someone else is messing with the gangs... what if it's connected?"
The room fell silent.
Salvatore narrowed his eyes. "The kid's got a point."
Dante tapped his fingers against the table, thinking. "We need intel. Marco, I want you and Leo to hit the streets. Find out if the local gangs are getting supplies from someone new."
Leo blinked. "Wait ....me?"
Dante smirked. "You wanted to be part of the mafia, didn't you?"
Leo gulped. Oh no. What did I just get myself into?
A "Simple" Street Mission
Later that night, Marco and Leo walked through a dimly lit alleyway in the heart of the city. The smell of street food mixed with the faint scent of gasoline, and neon lights flickered against wet pavement.

Leo stuffed his hands into his pockets, trying to look cool and casual. "So, uh... what exactly are we doing?"
Marco sighed. "We're gonna talk to some gang members. You? You're gonna keep your mouth shut and let me do the talking."
Leo nodded. "Got it. Silent and deadly. Like a ninja."
Marco gave him a side-eye. "More like silent and not getting us killed."
They reached a back alley where a group of men were gathered, talking in low voices. One of them-a bald guy with a scar running down his cheek looked up and frowned. "Marco. Didn't think I'd see you here."
Marco smirked. "Relax, Tony. We just want to talk."
Tony crossed his arms. "Talk about what?"
Marco leaned in slightly. "Word is, some smaller gangs are getting new weapons. That true?"
Tony tensed. "Dunno what you're talking about."
Leo, ignoring Marco's warning, immediately blurted out, "Oh, come on. We know you got something new. Who's supplying you?"
Marco groaned. Why is this kid like this?
Tony's eyes narrowed. "Who's the brat?"
Marco sighed. "He's with me."
Tony smirked. "Cute. But I don't like being questioned."
Suddenly, two of Tony's guys stepped forward, looking ready for a fight.
Leo gulped. "Uh... so, Marco? This would be a good time for that backup plan we totally have, right?"
Marco sighed. "Kid, shut up."
Before things could escalate, Leo being Leo decided to improvise.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of chili powder packets he had taken from a taco stand earlier.
Then without thinking he threw them in the air.
The chili powder exploded like a cloud of fiery dust.
"AHHHH! MY EYES!" Tony and his men yelled, stumbling back, rubbing their faces.
Marco grabbed Leo by the hoodie. "RUN."
"Already running!!" Leo shouted as they bolted down the alley.
Behind them, Tony's men were still coughing and swearing.
As they sprinted back to the car, Leo gasped, "Okay! Okay! Maybe that wasn't the best idea, but hey at least they're not chasing us!"
Marco glared at him. "Because they can't see, idiot!"
Leo grinned. "Exactly. Smart, right?"
Marco groaned. "I swear, you're gonna give me gray hair before I turn thirty."
Leo smirked. "Aw, come on. Admit it I was kinda brilliant."
Marco started the car, shaking his head. "You're something, alright."
Back at the Mansion
When they returned, Dante was waiting for them in the office. He took one look at Marco's exhausted expression and Leo's way-too-proud face.
"...What happened?" Dante asked flatly.
Marco threw his hands up. "Your genius nephew threw chili powder at the Santini gang members."
Dante blinked.
Leo grinned. "It was strategic chili powder."
Dante rubbed his temples. "Leo, go to bed before I reconsider keeping you alive."
Leo held up his hands. "Okay, okay. Night, Uncle Dante."
As Leo left, Marco shook his head. "You do realize he's just gonna get worse, right?"
Dante sighed. "Yeah. I know."
And despite himself, Dante smirked.
Because as chaotic as Leo was he was definitely a Moretti.
