Chapter 238: "Plasma Cannon kicks back harder than a spooked Leaf Chewer!"

Anna took her sweet time as she taught the cavemen and women how to shoot their guns. She was no Sci-Fi nerd, so she wasn’t exactly excited about handling the guns, but she was more worried about the fact that the guns could mow her people down if placed in the hands of the inexperienced, or oblivious.

She didn’t want her people to be shot dead by accident, and she did everything in her power to prevent that from happening.

However, one-hour into the ordeal, she noticed that the volunteers were getting restless. They kept being taught about safety procedures, with the points being repeated over and over, and this served to upset a lot of them, because even though Anna was practically yelling at them to be careful, they didn’t know what they were being careful for.

In a way, they still saw the plasma guns as funny-looking spears, long or short by size, so of course, they couldn’t picture what would make these ’spears’ so dangerous. They didn’t nearly understand the concept of guns, as in this time period, the only thing close enough to a gun to them would be the bow and arrow.

An arrow didn’t move nearly as fast as a plasma bolt did, and since each and every one of the volunteers were sure that they could handle being shot by an arrow in an altercation, they had no fear towards the guns. No sensible fear, at least.

Once she picked up on their cumulative frustration, Anna figured out how to work around this.

She straightened her gun forward, a massive, three-foot long, green and gray plasma cannon that she could barely hold, and then she called for their attention.

"Look at this rock," She raised her voice, "I need you to see what you’re dealing with."

The volunteers were quick to pay attention to her, they nearly surrounded her, which wasn’t ideal, but the kids weren’t doing a good job at holding the torches, and illuminating the place properly, and the volunteers wanted to have a better look. Kids were bad with torches in all universes, from the looks of it.

Regardless of the fact that everyone was just a few feet away from her, Anna was sure that she wouldn’t hurt anyone, so she simply pressed the button where the trigger was located, and shot a swift, face-melting plasma bolt!

The plasma cannon had quite a kick-back! She was tossed a solid two feet backwards, and nearly fell on her back!

The rushing sound of the bolt pinched their ears for a tenth of a second, before a small boom clashed, and melted into the foot-wide rock!

Most of the rock was absolutely obliterated, melted, and there even was a hot, green residue remaining on the rock. It was a very bad idea to touch it, and at this point, after the whistling, harsh melody of the shoot gave them quite a spook, some of the volunteers were second-guessing if they should handle their guns at all, nevertheless touch what seemed like jellyfish semen!

"Scared straight, huh?" She took a step forward, "Do you understand what your guns do now?"

The volunteers were quiet for a moment. Judging from the worried looks on their faces, she was scared that everyone would surrender their guns, and go inside, and the fact was that some of the volunteers even considered it, but their pause, their silence was followed with questions afterwards.

"What was that? Why did the rock burn?"

"What’s that green stuff?"

"Would our... gains burn the enemy too?"

"Guns," She corrected them, "The guns can burn the enemies, no two buts about it, but you can also burn yourselves, even if by accident. Does the safety training make any sense to you now, people? We don’t have all night."

Half of them nodded, out of synchronization, but the other half were confused, and of course, a lot more concerned. However, they didn’t want to give up either, simply because they were too embarrassed to walk away, since neither one of the volunteers had walked away yet. They tried to stick to the idea of defending their home, so they started asking questions, proper questions, that went beyond the initial phase of why do the ’spears’ look funny.

Zik, who held an equally big plasma cannon as Anna, coated with hints of red within the design, walked forward before anyone else could, and asked the first question.

He asked, "Should I expect my gun to throw me back? I can handle it, I think, but I don’t want my finger to be stuck on the trigger if I get knocked on my back."

"You’re holding a plasma cannon. You can tell that it has a strong kickback based on its size, and wide barrel." She followed along, "It’s difficult to handle them, yes, and you should expect the worst, and be cautious. There’s a reason I gave our biggest guns to people with Dinosaur Strength. If I gave it to anyone else, they’d be rolling down the mountain sooner or later."

"How do I keep my finger from being stuck on the trigger, though?" He doubled back.

Anna held her gun with one hand, and raised the other, flapping her forefinger around, "Keep your trigger finger light. You should ground yourself beforehand, yes, but if the gun slaps you on the face, you’d much rather have your finger away from the trigger."

"Got it..." He lowered his voice, and then looked at his gun.

Afterwards, he grounded himself by positioning his feet, right foot forward, left foot back, and then he tightened the muscles on his forearms.

"Like this?" He asked.

"Looks good," She said, "Pull the trigger."

Zik did what he was told, but he wasn’t exactly trigger happy, which was uncharacteristic for him. He proceeded with caution, as he was well aware that he could cause quite some horrid damage that not even Jimmy could fix.

He aimed towards the top of the mountain, for one thing, away from his people, and above any dinosaur that might be lurking around.

Then, he ’pulled’ the trigger by pressing a button close to his right hand, and so, a foot-wide, red plasma bolt beamed towards the tip of the mountain!

He could see the bolt flying upwards, but it moved too fast, so it was gone in the blink of an eye! The bolt hissed across the mountainside, and the sound it screamed out was high-pitched, but unlike a common, gunpowder based gun, the sound the plasma bolt made was pale in comparison when it came to booming sounds. It was quiet enough.

"Haha!" He exclaimed, quite happy of what he experienced. "Son of a bitch kicks back harder than a spooked leaf chewer!"

Prior to the shot, Zik had tightened his body so much that the kickback simply slid him across the ground, backwards by a couple of feet. The rest of his body barely moved by a few inches, but the energy from the kickback had to go somewhere.

Anna looked at the crowd, and said, "The smaller guns won’t slap you on the face, don’t worry, but I still expect you guys to be cautious. Now... who wants to shoot their gun next?"
