Liu Zhenhan suddenly felt something amiss.

Exactly what was amiss, he himself could not put his finger on.

Ning Yu, the mermaid, and he, the three of them maintained an awkward silence amongst each other, as if there were some unspoken boundaries that no one wanted to breach.

Liu Zhenhan laid his wolf skin blanket over the sleeping Helen.

His motions as he covered the little fox were extraordinarily gentle, his muscle lines incredibly firm.

There was a bronze mirror in the cabin, square with a pattern carved at each corner, archaic in style.

Liu Zhenhan leaned in to take a look at himself, two gaping holes staring back at him in the mirror, a tuft of hair like a burning henhouse.

“Would you help me fix my hair?” Liu Zhenhan asked Ning Yu.

Ning Yu looked at him, taking the curved knife he presented.

The knife was heavy and almost slipped from Ning Yu’s hand, but she managed to hold on with both hands.

“I think this look matches your identity quite well.” The mermaid playfully flicked her tail in the wooden box, causing a splash of water.

“What do you mean?” Liu Zhenhan looked at her.

“Savage hair to go with a savage orc.” Avril replied.

“Thank you for the compliment.” Liu Zhenhan smiled, refusing to rise to her bait.

Liu Zhenhan realized that hoping her jibes and sarcasm would one day cease was wishful thinking.

“I’m not good with hair styling, Lord Richard!” Ning Yu’s delicate fingers touched Liu Zhenhan’s neck.

“Just do whatever.” Liu Zhenhan moved a stool in front of the mirror, sat down on it with a creak.

“I’ll help too.” Avril forced herself to sit up, her eyes twinkling with mischief.

“You can move now?” Liu Zhenhan was surprised, but also a little anxious.

“I’m not yet capable of using magic.” The mermaid seemed to see right through him, a smirk at the corners of her mouth.

“It was Lord Richard who saved you.

He used the Orc Sacrificial ‘Soul Lock Chain’ chant, sharing the burden of your injuries.” Ning Yu told Avril.

Avril was clearly taken aback.

She gazed at Liu Zhenhan for a while before saying, “Who asked him to save me?”

“Whatever you say, I’ll pretend not to hear.” Liu Zhenhan moved the stool over to the wooden box, holding the bronze mirror: “Ning Yu, don’t give our beloved princess a knife, I’m afraid she might slit my throat.”

“I’ll handle the knife, Princess, you help me hold the hair.” Ning Yu said.

The curved knife gently touched the hair, emitting a faint crackling sound, strands of hair flittered and fell.

“Great knife!” The mermaid whispered; “The Sea Clan can’t forge weapons as we lack fire.

If we could have such a weapon, we would have dominated the seven seas long ago.”

“Don’t you have trade with humans?

You could just exchange weapons with them.” Liu Zhenhan smiled into the mirror.

“Beamon, human cunning is beyond your imagination.” The mermaid said, “Humans are always on guard against our Sea Clan, especially since the sea-land war thousands of years ago made them wary of our strength.”

“Speaking of which, we Beamon were allies with humans during that great sea-land war.” Liu Zhenhan had heard Helen speak of this.

“There are only eternal interests, no eternal friends.” Avril said, “Aren’t you Beamon suffering at the hands of humans now?

If you knew then, you might as well have surrendered to our Sea Clan.”

“You know, this reminds me of something.

Why is it that Sea Clan members like the little mermaid can’t stay out of water for long, while you, Ning Yu, can?” Liu Zhenhan asked the Clam Girl, “As far as I recall, you are from the Eastern Sea Clan, right?”

“I’m an exception.” Ning Yu straightened Liu Zhenhan’s head: “I’m wearing a Jade Pendant that allows me to stay away from water.

The Jade Pendant bears a formation engraved by our Yun Qin masters, which allows me to live without having to return to water.”

“The great and mysterious Eastern Sea Clan!” The mermaid smiled at Ning Yu, stroking Ning Yu’s beautiful and exquisite shell.

“We only have one of the Jade Pendants.

The knowledge of this formation has been lost, time can erase a lot of things.” Ning Yu said sadly.

“How many Clam People are there in the Mo Shao Clan now?” The mermaid curiously asked.

Ning Yu’s bitter smile was answer enough.

“So you’re as rare as us mermaids…” Avril lamented.

“Princess, I’ve heard that your mermaid race has some mysterious territorial wards.

What’s your ward?” Liu Zhenhan asked, “No ill intent, I’m just a bit curious why you became so obedient all of a sudden.

It seems to me like there’s some sort of conspiracy brewing.”

“My ward has not awakened yet.

If it did, say something like ‘Stormrage of the Furious Seas’, it would be quite useful against your ship,” the mermaid said, smiling.

“Is that a threat?” Liu Zhenhan rolled his eyes.

“The territorial wards are the symbols of the noble identity of the mermaids.

I wouldn’t debase it by using it to threaten you,” the mermaid’s tail kept swishing in the water.

“No worries, I also have life magic, we’re on level ground,” Liu Zhenhan said, “Would you like me to show it off a bit, so you can get a taste of what it looks like?”

“An outlaw!” The mermaid was truly uncertain of this guy’s origin, when she thought of how he even dared to beat up a whale warrior, she felt a bit anxious; but she couldn’t show weakness and could only pretend to snort dismissively, flicking her golden hair.

“Lord Richard, what do you think?” Ning Yu stroked Liu Zhenhan’s hair, moistened it a bit, and then wiped it down.

Liu Zhenhan stared at himself in the mirror, quite shocked.

Before, his hair, which resembled a bird’s nest, had been neatly organized by Ning Yu’s skilled hands.

The hair on his forehead was styled into two uneven hanging strands.

The longer strand of hair perfectly hid his large and hideous nose, while the shorter one added a touch of brutishness.

“Ha ha…” Liu Zhenhan laughed, “It’s not equal at all…”

“Let me have a look.” Avril said.

Liu Zhenhan slowly turned his head.

A masculine face came into Mermaid Princess Avril’s vision, the previously hideous outer appearance was gone.

A dangling long strand of hair covered his horrifying nostril.

His eyes, which had never been given much attention, were glistening defiantly.

This hairstyle along with Liu Zhenhan’s robust muscles and generous beard made him look utterly wild, so wild that it made the Mermaid Princess Avril’s heart beat faster.

“What’s so special about it?

It’s just a Piegel.” Avril said unconvinced, yet unable to move her gaze away.

“When will I shape up your beard for you again?” Ning Yu stared at Liu Zhenhan’s face.

“I didn’t think I could be so handsome…” Liu Zhenhan was so gleeful that he stood up.

Suddenly, “Lord Richard…” Ning Yu wobbled a bit before regaining her balance, “I feel a bit uncomfortable…

can I…”

“Feel uncomfortable?” Liu Zhenhan looked at her and then Avril.

He felt that something was off about the two of them, they didn’t seem like people who would stare at him.

Within the gazes of both of them, there was a struggle of helplessness and an unusual desire, their pupils emanating a strange radiance.

“Then, you should rest for a bit.” Liu Zhenhan moved aside to let Ning Yu sit down.

Liu Zhenhan watched the two of them, the scent of a conspiracy was becoming stronger and stronger.

“Richard…” the young fox also called out Liu Zhenhan’s name.

“You awake?” Liu Zhenhan bent over to Helen, but her eyes were still closed.

“Helen, wake up!” Liu Zhenhan hastily looked around, worrying, “Wake up!”

“Lord Richard…” Ning Yu spoke behind him, “Can I…

return…

and rest…”

Liu Zhenhan turned back to look at Ning Yu and said: “You…”

His voice abruptly stopped.

The usual coldness was absent from Ning Yu’s lovely face, her expressive eyes seemed to have two waves of tears rolling in them.

Her gaze was filled with pleas, anxiety, struggle, and concealment.

“If you aren’t feeling well, hurry back and rest!”

Ning Yu stood up, attempted to open the door several times, but drew back every time.

Eventually, the door remained unopened.

The sunlight from the window shone in, casting a glaring beam directly onto Ning Yu.

Ning Yu’s hand was on the door latch, with the bolt already twisted.

Liu Zhenhan could hear his own heartbeat echoing loudly, leaving him in a daze.

“That old bastard Xu!”

What should I do?

Liu Zhenhan was completely at a loss.
