Chapter 100: Millionaire!!!

Rob’s eyebrows couldn’t help but climb up as he read the contract that Mr. Tucker gave him.

This one was identical to what Graham had given to him. The only difference is the price. The contract that Graham gave him was based on the market rate of a single stock. However, Flower Capital was thorough enough and they had even given a premium for Rob to buy out his whole stock.

While the market price for Rob’s stocks is $57.43, the contract offered by Mr. Tucker stated that Flower Capital wanted to buy his stocks at $65.00 for a premium price. Doing some mental calculations, Rob realized that they were willing to pay over 950,000. It was a substantial sum and a good increase compared to what Graham offered.

All in all, this was really a good contract.

But, Rob’s expected price of a million dollars has not been reached yet. Rob figured that this was the first offer that Flower Capital was putting forth and they could probably increase the sum and alter some terms after negotiations with him.

Mr. Walker’s insistence on having a hard attitude made sense to Rob now. If he didn’t haggle for even a bit, then Flower Capital would be glad to buy his stocks at a lower rate.

Schooling his emotions, Rob spoke, "This is a decent offer. While it has not reached my expected price, it isn’t too far off either, considering what the current market situation is."

"Mr. Williams, the computer industry is an untested industry. While we are intending to shore up our positions, there is an inherent risk in the industry as a whole. I think the offer we have presented is reasonable," Mr. Tucker smiled amicably and tried to come off as if he was instructing a junior.

Considering Rob’s age, the man’s attitude made sense. He wasn’t being overly condescending. But, he wasn’t also being indulgent either.

"Hah, Mr. Tucker, I am sorry that you feel that way. This isn’t just any stocks we are talking about. These are IndiSoft’s stocks. The one computer company that has made a profit. I don’t think this valuation is right," Rob shook his head.

"Even if IndiSoft has made a profit, it isn’t that much. The only reason these stock values have soared is the recent bill that the government has introduced," Mr. Tucker smiled in return.

"True, the bill has helped a lot in increasing this stock value. But, there is no smoke without fire. Why haven’t other computer company stocks risen to this extent as well? We both know the reason for that is IndiSoft’s profit model and their focus," Rob smirked causing Mr. Tucker’s smile to fade a bit.

"Mr. Tucker, do not take me as a naïve kid that doesn’t know anything about business. The reason I invested in IndiSoft and not any other company is their focus on consumer goods rather than developing research-oriented products. We all know how big the consumer market is."

"Moreover, IndiSoft has already proven their efficiency by turning up profit when other computer companies are merely pouring in money to create a product. There is a stark difference between others and IndiSoft," Rob smiled at Mr. Tucker telling him he knew the value of IndiSoft and wouldn’t be fooled.

Silence reigned for a few moments, in the end, Mr. Tucker let out a small laugh and spoke, "Well, Mr. Williams, it seems like I can’t pull one over you. Even then, the stocks in your hands wouldn’t get a higher price. We have already given you a sufficient premium for each stock. I still think our offer is reasonable."

"In that case, why don’t we wait for a week and see if what you say is true?" Rob smirked causing the amiable expression on Mr. Tucker’s face to stiffen a bit. "The price you have given for each stock will be crossed within hours of the stock market opening tomorrow."

"I am not losing anything by waiting for a week here. We both know when the market opens tomorrow, the price of IndiSoft’s stocks will soar. Don’t forget that IndiSoft’s stock rose over $40 in a single afternoon. If not for the market being closed today, I bet the stock price will even be higher now. By my estimate, the stock price will easily reach $70 to $75 by the end of next week."

"But, there is a chance that this stock will fall as well. Right now, this is the reaction to the bill. If the stock doesn’t increase by a huge margin by tomorrow, the momentum will come to a halt and there won’t be further increases. God forbid if it starts falling. Won’t you lose a lot in that way?" Mr. Tucker asked sharply his face grim now.

"Mr. Tucker, that is where we have a difference of opinion," Rob smiled knowingly. "I have absolute confidence in IndiSoft’s stock rising further. Even if by chance, things don’t end up as I expect, I won’t be losing out much as the stock price will at least reach $60."

"$70 per stock. That is the highest we can go. If not, we can assume that this discussion is done," Mr. Tucker said suddenly taking Rob by surprise.

A moment ago, the man was arguing that the price had already reached the ceiling. But, after seeing that Rob wasn’t willing to give up these stocks at the stated price, and was even prepared to wait for a week, he suddenly threw out another number.

"Mr. Williams, we are already paying over $12 in premium. The only reason we are even doing that is that you have bulk stock in your hand. If not, we won’t be willing to budge," Mr. Tucker said in a business-like tone.

The former familiarity and friendliness were now completely gone. The man was a pure businessman at this moment after he realized that Rob couldn’t be easily fooled. His posture and demeanor screamed that he was in war mode now.

Rob’s mind whizzed and he hurriedly calculated the price. The amount barely crossed over a million at this rate. Rob was not satisfied. By Mr. Walker’s estimate, Rob could go as high as 1.5 million easily with the cards in his hands.

Furthermore, they haven’t taken out their trump card yet. But, to Rob, it looked as if he couldn’t drag further without revealing his trump card. The situation has reached a tipping point.

Even then, Rob tried to argue and increase the base price a bit. But, Mr. Tucker wasn’t budging and he stood firm that he would not spend a single cent more than $70. Despite Rob trying several different arguments, Mr. Tucker stood firm.

In the end, Rob knew that it was time to reveal his trump card.

"Look, Mr. Tucker, I can feel Flower Capital’s sincerity. Your offer looks absolutely fine from your perspective. However, I feel that I will be losing out a lot if I sold it to you at this price," Rob said sighing aloud.

"Mr. Williams, you are being ridiculous here. This is the best price you can get for your stock. You can even talk with others and see if anyone is willing to spend this much. Flower Capital is the only capital group that is even slightly interested in getting into this field. Others are still waiting to see the development on the sidelines. So, I can assure you that you won’t get a better offer than this" Mr. Tucker said a little exasperatedly.

The man looked as if he felt that Rob was being needlessly stubborn and was merely opening the lion’s mouth to take a huge bite. His thoughts were clear and it could be seen that he considered Rob to be a greedy man, who wanted more money when there was nothing more that could be offered.

"Mr. Tucker, there is a reason I feel that way," Rob sighed and looked as if it pained him to admit this. "There are things about the industry that you don’t know that will change the landscape of the consumer market in the next six months. Seeing as you have been this sincere with me and patient as well, I will give you a huge tip."

"In the next six months, IndiSoft will be coming up with their next product update and they will shock this entire industry when they do that. Every company in the country would be clamoring to buy their product," Rob stated seriously causing Mr. Tucker’s eyebrows to raise in disbelief.

"You think the emergence of the computer industry as a major industry would take a few more years, but I know that it is only six months away. Hence, I am not willing to get the short end of the deal by selling my stocks now, especially at this price," Rob stated unequivocally causing Mr. Tucker to be bewildered.

Silence ensued as Mr. Tucker and his secretary shared confused looks. They were looking at Rob as if they were in front of a lunatic. The good impression Rob had built in Mr. Tucker’s heart was crumbling with each passing second.

To Mr. Tucker, Rob currently appeared as a raving lunatic who was making baseless predictions. While he could deal with some confidence in the computer industry on Rob’s part, predicting that it will become a major industry in the next six months seemed like blind confidence that bordered on hallucination.

"I can see that you are skeptical, Mr. Tucker. Let me give you some inside information," Rob said not bothered by the looks he received. "You see those people over there, they are working on a couple of pieces of software for IndiSoft. A demo version has already been presented before IndiSoft and IndiSoft is incredibly optimistic about these softwares."

"They were so optimistic that they have demanded a contract to be signed by the end of next week. I can see that you don’t believe me. But, just don’t take my word for it. You can go ahead and check it out with your own eyes. I think your secretary would especially like it," Rob said with a small smile.

When Mr. Tucker still looked confused, Rob waved one of the people over and introduced them to Mr. Tucker, "Peter, this here is Mr. Tucker. They are from Flower Capitals. Why don’t you take them over there and give them a tour of what you guys are working on?"

"Rob, you know I can’t do that. This stuff is confidential. Brent will have my head if I let outsiders know," Peter said a little hesitantly.

"Peter, we haven’t signed the contract with IndiSoft yet, I will talk to Brent. Do me a solid here. Let them know how you guys are going to change the industry soon," Rob smiled and patted Peter.

Peter smiled helplessly and nodded. He gestured for them to follow him and moved away.

"They are all nerds. While they may look like they don’t want to show off, they will talk your ears off once they get started. You both go ahead and check it out, I will wait here. I don’t want to influence your views," Rob smiled at Mr. Tucker.

Mr. Tucker still looked hesitant, but a seed of curiosity had already been planted in his heart by Peter and Rob’s interactions. As a businessman, he was always on the lookout for new opportunities. He felt that checking this out wouldn’t be much of a hassle.

So, he reluctantly nodded and left with his secretary.

In an effort to make it more impactful, Rob had even given Brent the basic idea of Excel as well. Rob felt that the Flower Capital representatives would be more appeased to learn about further development of the concept of the consumer-centric computer industry.

While just MS Word alone wouldn’t have much of an impact on Flower Capital representatives, the prospect of a program like Excel being in the pipeline would make them see the potential and be more impressed.

They can also see a bit of future development from this and be more confident in their estimates. This, in turn, will make it easier for Rob to sway them further to get a good deal for his stocks.

After all, what businessmen most feared wasn’t incomplete ideas. They feared the prospect of no further development. Hence, this new addition of Rob, indicating how these programs can be developed in the future and multiple avenues to implement them would be a huge impact on their decision-making.

In the end, after an hour or so, Mr. Tucker walked out of the company with his secretary and spent some time discussing more details with his higher-ups about what he had seen and heard.

After a long time, Mr. Tucker walked back to Rob with a big smile on his face.

"Mr. Tucker," Rob said with a small smile, "I am sure you understand my reluctance to sell my stocks at that price now. Tell me, wouldn’t I be losing out a lot by selling my stocks so cheaply?"

"Mr. Williams, unless a product hits the market and is tested by it, no one can predict the outcome. But, I can understand the potential present in the programs that are being developed. I don’t want our relationships to sour either," Mr. Tucker smiled and shook his head slightly causing Rob’s heart to panic a bit.

"Considering the unreliability of the future you have painted for me, and my discussions with my higher-ups, I have new terms to offer. I hope this will satisfy both you and us," Mr. Tucker continued not giving any chance to react.

"I too have a few small conditions," Rob said a little heavily. "However, I think it would be better to include Mr. Walker in these negotiations. As long as I find your offer reasonable, we can iron out the details further."

"Sure, let’s call Mr. Walker over," Mr. Tucker smiled.

After a lot of back and forth, it was decided that Flower Capital will buy 14,185 stocks in Rob’s hand for a premium price of $65. The deal amounted to $922,025 in total. Thus, leaving 500 stocks in Rob’s hand for him to hold on to some stocks of IndiSoft.

But, that was just the base offer. An additional contact was made with a non-disclosure agreement in conjunction with it. As per this contract, Flower Capital will pay a fixed rate of $25 for a single stock of IndiSoft in Rob’s hands. This amounted to $354,625.

This was a private settlement between Rob and Flower Capital. This was done to reduce the fluctuation of stock price and also lessen the commission Rob had to pay to his stockbroker.

In total, Flower Capital bought all but 500 stocks in Rob’s hands for a combined premium price of $90. The total amount Rob got was around 1.3 million. This was a huge amount in the current period Rob was living in.

While Rob felt $90 was a little less, Mr. Tucker refused to budge citing that they can’t pay more just based on the potential market change down the line. Even now, they have paid over $32 in premiums to Rob for a single stock. This wasn’t a small amount.

Still, Rob felt a little satisfied with the money he made. Especially, Mr. Walker’s suggestion of splitting this into two contracts helped him to save about $35,000 in the commission fee.

If Rob had sold all his stocks, he could have earned $45000 more bringing his total to cross 1.3 million. But, Rob felt that leaving these 500 stocks in his hands could earn him more than that in the long run. So, he didn’t mind much about it.

"Congratulations, Mr. Williams," Mr. Tucker said grasping Rob’s hands and smiling at him. "You will become a millionaire when the stock market opens tomorrow. It was a pleasure doing business with you."

"Likewise," Rob smiled brightly and nodded back.

After Mr. Tucker and his secretary left, Brent’s office entered a celebratory mode. Rob ordered pizza and beer for everyone present there with his money. Mr. Walker excused himself as he felt it would be inappropriate to celebrate with youngsters and Brent went out to drop him off and bring the food.

Dacey came and hugged Rob. She gave him a scorching kiss causing Byron and Perter to hoot and holler in approval. Rob kissed back equally fiercely and they both parted after a long time.

Dacey’s face was flushed and Rob felt an uncontrollable itch to start a real celebration with only him and Dacey in a private location seeing her flushed face. He held her possessively and smiled at her causing Dacey to become embarrassed further.

Dacey could already see Rob’s thoughts from his scorching gaze on her body. She smiled shyly and whispered in his ears.

"Congratulations, Rob. You are now a millionaire!!!"
