Booking Glory-Chapter 14: A Brawl To Remember
August, Longham Wrestling Arena, Longham City.
The crowd was boiling with anticipation as they looked at the three competitors who were in a standoff inside the ring. Todd, who was present in the audience, could feel the tension building inside the ring.
Even as a veteran pro wrestling fan, he could hardly stop himself from getting influenced by the scene inside the ring. Even though he knew that this was all a work, he couldn’t help but be moved by the rest of the audience.
There was something about this match that made it special. He knew it was not the historical Triple Threat Match. While the chance to make history was something indeed unique, the match had one more thing that was generating such reactions from the crowd.
Try as he did, he couldn’t exactly pinpoint what it was at that moment. He knew that once he calmed down a bit and thought about it, he would be able to grasp what it was. However, knowing it is something, but actually accomplishing it is something else.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t help but feel eagerness and anticipation racing through his body. He wanted this fight to happen right now. To hell with the special event, all he wanted was for these women to start fighting right at this moment.
This was a strange feeling for Todd. He had never experienced such impatience in his twenty years of being a fan of this business. It was kind of novel to feel such a thing, and he liked it.
"Do you think they will fight here?" Jason asked eagerly looking at Logan and Todd.
"They have booked the match for the PPV," Todd said as a tiny bit of rationality still prevailed within him.
"But, they could though. Couldn’t they? I mean, we still have half an hour left in the show," Logan said fervently looking at the three women who were mouthing at each other inside the ring.
"But, there is a tag team match that is going to be the main event. I really don’t know what they are going to do?" Todd said in exasperation.
He liked this new feeling. He didn’t know what was going to happen next. And that made him even more invested in the match.
"Yeah, that’s a bummer. They should cancel the tag team match and let the girls fight. Look at them!!! They look like they want to rip each other out," Jason said hopping on his toes.
"Oh shit!!! Did Evelyn just shove Selena?" Logan exclaimed from the side causing Todd to focus more.
"Oooh boy, Selena isn’t taking that shit. He he he, what’s Diana doing?" Jason crowed.
"I think she is trying to separate them. Oh god! I knew that was going to happen. They both shoved Diana away and they are at each other’s throat," Logan said in a shocked tone.
"Bam! That’s gotta hurt. Selena just decked Evelyn hard. Now, Diana’s joining the fray. I can’t fault her. Look at them go. Diana and Selena are duking it out there. Oh God! Evelyn is joining the fight too! She just kicked Diana away in a bid to get her hands on Selena!"
"All three are brawling!!!" Todd exclaimed in shock as he couldn’t hold it in anymore.
"Hey, hey, where did these guys come from?" Jason asked as a few people rushed into the ring.
"I think they are backstage personnel. Look, they are trying to separate the girls," Todd said as the backstage personnel interposed themselves between the wrestlers.
"Bastards, let them fight!" Jason growled.
"Yeah, let them fight!" Logan shouted from the side.
And magically the crowd began to recite the same words from all over.
"Let them fight!"
"Let them fight!"
"Let them fight!"
"Let them fight!"
"Let them fight!"
Todd too joined in as he too shouted out along with the crowd. The crowd was eager for a fistfight at this moment. They were cheering and chanting for the wrestlers to fight as the backstage personnel tried to separate the three women in the ring.
"Damn, Evelyn just rushed past all the personnel and decked Diana right in the face. She looks like she is going to murder someone. Awww! They are separating them again."
"Look! Look! Look at Selena! She bypassed the guards and she just kicked Diana. Man, both of them want a piece of Diana, don’t they? Too bad, they pulled her away too."
"I am telling you Diana isn’t going to just take it! What did I say? What did I say? Look at her go! She just jumped over all the personnel to get at Evelyn. Man, this is intense!"
"Let them go, you bastards! Booo! Booo! Booo!"
"Man, that was crazy! I can’t wait for Sunday. These three are going to rip each other apart," Jason said coming down from the high as the backstage personnel brought the wrestlers backstage.
"Yeah man, that was intense. I am going to be here next Sunday. First, I just wanted to see history being made. Now, I just want to see these three going at each other," Logan said breathing heavily.
"That brawl will always be remembered. Mark my words," Todd said with a content smile on his face.
"Heh, we can go out and brag that we were there for the brawl then," Jason chuckled causing Logan and Todd to laugh out in agreement.
"Man, I am stoked. I can’t wait for Sunday," Logan said causing the other two to nod. "Did you see Diana jumping over people to get at Evelyn? That was insane!"
"For me, the best part was Selena decking Evelyn," Todd said with a smile.
"I liked how Evelyn kicked Diana away to get her hands on Selena," Jason said shaking his head. "That is when things got way out of hand."
"Luckily, the backstage personnel rushed in. Or LWC would have lost a good match for PPV. They all looked like they wanted to go right now," Todd spoke as his brain once more began to analyze. "Do you think they planned this?"
"No, this looked legit man. Those girls looked like they can’t wait. That’s why the security had to come in," Jason shook his head.
"And if they had planned this, then they were brilliant in my books," Logan shrugged causing the duo to smile.
Just then the music blared once again.
"Looks like it is time for the main event," Todd said causing their attention to turn towards the ring.

August, Backstage, Longham Wrestling Arena
"Oh my god! Oh my god! I can’t believe this," Selena Sanchez kept muttering to herself in the female locker room.
Her face was flushed. She looked as if she was hyperventilating. And the atmosphere in the locker room didn’t help her either. There was the entire women’s division buzzing around there.
"Holy Moly! You guys were just amazing!" Alanna was hopping on her feet as she buzzed around the locker room.
She saw Evelyn sitting in the corner with a dazed look and promptly launched a hug on her causing Evelyn to shriek in surprise. Dacey and Fiona looked at their antics with wide smiles etched on their face.
"Evelyn! Eve! Did you hear the crowd? They were chanting for you three. They were telling us to let you guys fight," Alanna chortled happily causing Evelyn to smile in return. "Oh my god! I am so proud of you three!"
Diana who was sitting on a chair by the side had a wide smile on her face. Being a veteran who had already experienced what it feels like to be in the ring when the crowd goes nuts, she was relatively calm compared to the rest of the locker room.
She understood what the locker room was feeling at the moment. When she first experienced the same thing, she too had been overwhelmed. Compared to other veterans, she was relatively young and was able to sympathize with the locker room more.
The women’s division in LWC was relatively young compared to other female rosters in the business. Unlike her, most of them had been wrestling on and off the show for several promotions before LWC contracted them.
To them, this was a huge moment.
These were the moments that wrestlers fall in love with the business completely. It is not that common and only occurs in the business very rarely. Especially for female wrestlers who have lower visibility and show time compared to their male counterparts.
And this moment was very special too. This wasn’t a championship match or a celebration, a return, or even a debut. This was a pure organic moment of storytelling. And she loved this a lot.
Even she, who has already experienced the adoration of the crowd, was feeling a little overwhelmed at this moment. And to see the entire roster celebrating brought a warm feeling to her heart.
Just then, the door to the locker room opened, and in stepped the man of the hour – Rob Williams.
"Ladies," Rob said with a wide smile on his face, "how does it feel to hear a thousand people asking us to let you fight?"
"Fucking awesome!" Alanna and Evelyn said from the corner causing Selena and Diana to nod.
The other members looked on with proud smiles on their faces too.
"That’s good," Rob chuckled causing everyone to laugh. "There will be more such things in the coming days. And I assure you that each and every one of you will have your moment."
The locker room cheered in response to that statement.
"Now, before you leave, I want to sort out a few issues that need to be addressed. Don’t worry, you did nothing wrong. But, as this is something brand new for you all, I want you folks to understand what you did right and what you didn’t"
"First off, Diana. There is absolutely nothing I could have done better out there than what you did. If you keep the same level of performance in the upcoming months, I am sure that I can make you a crowd favorite."
Diana nodded with a smile at that.
"Selena, you need to work on your mic skills a little bit. Your presentation there was a little bit lacking. With both Diana and Evelyn already saying the main points about the match’s importance, you should have gone a different route. Your words were a bit repetitive."
"While you had the halo of a historical match now, the same couldn’t be said for the future. So, if you don’t pick up your mic skills, you will be left far behind the others. Evelyn and Diana had already fired up the crowd by the time you came out.
You were in a disadvantageous position right off the bat, but that is no excuse for subpar mic skills. Develop on it, so when you get into a 1vs1 you don’t end up lacking."
Selena nodded seriously as she took in the feedback.
"On the other hand, you were magnificent during the brawl. The way you dropped Evelyn was just spectacular. It ignited the crowd to a whole new level. Keep it up," Rob smiled at her encouragingly causing her to blush and nod.
"Now, onto Evelyn. Evelyn, I don’t know how you guys decided to act out the brawl or just wing it inside the ring, but from a third person’s perspective, you came off a bit weak in this."
"Remember ladies, in a brawl like this, only the first shot and the last shot are more impactful if you don’t do some crazy stuff in the middle. The audience will only remember those more vividly."
"In this brawl, you got knocked down in the first shot. And in the end, Diana pounced on you. That made you a bit weaker than the other two. Your momentum is a bit stymied now. We need to rectify that in the coming match."
Evelyn nodded her head taking in Rob’s words.
"And the worst part is, you look fierce. If anyone should have come out on top of that brawl it should have been you. But, never mind, what’s done is done. We will focus on the match."
Rob looked at the three competitors and continued.
"Now, we have established the fact that you all want this shot at glory very badly. We have also established that you ladies can’t wait to tear each other apart. What we are going to do next is build up on that."
"When the bell rings on Sunday, I want you three to immediately start attacking each other just like how you did during the brawl. No fancy wrestling techniques, no pandering to the crowd, I want you to attack each other like rabid dogs. Pure and simple, got it?"
The trio nodded their head in understanding.
"Good, in that clash, I want you to attack each other. Not two people concentrating on one person. Say, for example, if Diana begins with a punch to Evelyn, she will then follow it up with a kick to Selena. Evelyn, who will have recovered by now will punch Diana in return and attack Selena next. No gaps, I want all three of you to trade hits for the first few minutes to ignite the audience."
"In that brawl, Evelyn will come out on top. Then we will transition into a slow pace. Beat up a person and send them out of the ring. Then two of you work on each other. Just when it looks to be settling in, I want the third one to interfere and attack both of them."
"You get the rhythm, right? You continue this while escalating the level until the tenth minute. At the tenth minute, one of you will eat Diana’s finishing move. I don’t care who it is. Whoever is in the ring at that time will eat the finisher."
"Just when everyone thinks the match is going to be over, I want the third person to break the pinfall or submission. The timing must be done right. Then, trade finishing moves between each other for the next five or six minutes. Make sure you don’t overdo it."
The trio nodded.
"Around the sixteenth or seventeenth minute, I want you all to be unsteady on your feet, once more exchanging punches in the middle of the ring. This is to show that you all are totally spent, but are unwilling to stay down. This will rile up the crowd a lot."
The trio nodded with a strange gleam in their eyes.
"And by the eighteenth minute, you go for the ending. We all know who the winner is. Selena will take the fall. The one left out will try hard, but you will be just short of breaking the count. Then the victor poses, and you all exchange handshakes with a disappointed look. By then your part is done," Rob said pausing to look that they all understood their roles in the match.
The trio nodded in understanding causing Rob to feel relieved. He knew that the real ending of the match was going to change. Only seven people in the entire company know the details of it. He met Diana’s eyes and she nodded to indicate that she understood the rest.
Rob let out a relieved sigh. If things work out, he was going to shock the entire wrestling industry come Sunday. And he just couldn’t wait for it.
