Booking Glory-Chapter 21: Dacey’s Promo - Part 3
Rob breathed a sigh of relief as he heard Dacey speak in the microphone. This segment was saved in the neck of time. If Dacey’s lackluster performance had continued any longer, there could be nothing to be done about it.
Even the commentators with all their years of experience could not do much if Dacey failed to perform. There was only so much that commentators could do to carry the segment. The task of performance solely fell on the shoulders of Dacey.
And if she didn’t perform, no amount of actions from others could save it.
Luckily, Dacey had enough presence of mind to catch the lifeline that was thrown. No matter what happened from here on, the segment was at least saved. He would train Dacey next week to rectify the mistakes both he and she made this week.
Even if Dacey fumbled, all was not truly lost!

Dacey felt as if her mind rebooted the moment she started hearing the entire crowd chant <Why Dacey Why!?>. She felt as if she was able to breathe again. She thanked her lucky stars for this lifeline and decided to roll with it.
When she had prepared the promo in her mind, she had a whole spiel of things she wanted to say in the ring. Rob had given her the basic outline of the story and had wanted her to work based on that.
So, she had been preparing for it for a long while.
However, now everything was out the window. She had frozen the moment she stepped into the ring. And whatever she had prepared to say felt inappropriate at this time. Not to mention that her mind was not still working well.
So, she decided to use the words the crowd chanted as her opening line. That lone moment of spontaneous decision-making saved Dacey’s career. While she might not understand the significance at this moment, she would one day look back and tell people that this was the moment her career truly changed.
"You wanna know why?" Dacey asked in the microphone and magically enough the crowd quieted to hear her answer.
Dacey watched the crowd waiting to hear from her eagerly. Having so much attention on her made her feel nervous, but this time she didn’t freeze. She rolled with the punches.
"You wanna know why? You wanna know why I did what I did on <Break Out>?"
Dacey asked causing the crowd to once more chant.
<Why Dacey Why!?>
<Why Dacey Why!?>
<Why Dacey Why!?>
<Why Dacey Why!?>
<Why Dacey Why!?>
"You wanna know why I attacked your precious Diana?"
Dacey walked towards the ropes in an intense manner. She looked as if she was going to spew fire at this moment. The crowd followed her question with their chants once again.
Dacey moved to the other side of the ring and once more asked the crowd with intensity radiation off her body.
"You wanna know why I took out your precious Diana with her own finisher?"
This time the crowd was really into it. Except for the brief moment where Dacey spoke, the rest of the time they chanted <Why Dacey Why!?> at her continuously. Dacey did her part well by walking toward the right side of the ring with the same intensity.
"You wanna know why I picked that exact moment to do what I did?"
Dacey moved towards the left side of the ring this time with the same intensity. She looked at the crowd, who were chanting at the top of their voices, and once again asked.
"You wanna know why Dacey Surestone did the unthinkable?"
Dacey now moved towards the center of the ring and looked at the camera intensely.
"You really wanna know why?"
Dacey asked once again. This time she didn’t move from the center. She just stared at the camera intensely and raised her other hand.
"Here’s why!"
Dacey flipped the bird right in front of the camera as she stared intensely into it!!!
The crowd really went nuts seeing her response. Dacey stood there in the center with her middle finger pointed upwards and a smirk on her face. That image was displayed on the titantron causing the entire audience to once more start booing her.
"You really wanna know why?" Dacey asked once again causing the crowd to quiet down a bit to listen.
"Well, I don’t feel like telling you. None of you morons deserve an explanation!"
Dacey finished with a smirk and dropped her microphone on the ring. She slowly and calmly walked out of the ring and made her way backstage. She still maintained the strut she had going.
As the camera once more focused on her back profile as she made her way back, Dacey’s backside was displayed on the large titantron. The image of her walking sexily and confidently as she made her way backstage caused countless males in the audience to gulp.
However, the prevalent reaction was once more overwhelming boos. The crowd was really angry this time. Dacey had toyed with them like they were little kids. She didn’t explain her actions, rather she flipped the bird and walked away making them look like idiots. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
This truly displeased the crowd. Mutterings could be heard all around. And when Dacey’s rebellious music hit on her way back, the crowd truly lost their shit. They started throwing curses and booing her.
Some very enthusiastic fans even threw their paper cups at her as she made her way up the entranceway. Dacey sidestepped them and walked back confidently to the top of the ramp with an arrogant swagger in her steps.
Dacey once more stood on top of the ramp and eyed the crowd. The background music that played really accentuated Dacey’s character at that moment. Dacey looked as if she enjoyed the boos from the crowd as she stood there watching them throw stuff at her.
Just when everyone thought it was over, Dacey once again raised her middle finger and flipped the entire crowd off from the top of the entranceway. This caused the crowd to erupt in boos once more.
Dacey cheekily waved them goodbye and stepped back inside the curtain.

"Such arrogant display!"
"I have never seen a wrestler treat the crowd like this before. She just flipped them off on national TV! National TV! I say."
"Mr. Gibson ought to fire her!"
"I totally agree. She has gone way over the line here. She has lost the spirit of a pro wrestler completely. She needs to answer for her actions!"
Rob tuned out the commentary that was ripping on Dacey once more. While this wasn’t what Rob had planned for the segment, he couldn’t help but be happy. What transpired out there was a true heel moment.
He never expected Dacey to do what she did. Even more, he didn’t know why she did it. Regardless, Rob wasn’t angry. In fact, he was so happy that he felt like he was on the moon right now.
"What the hell was that?" Robin asked angrily. "This wasn’t supposed to happen. This wasn’t what we agreed on clearly. What in the hell is Dacey doing?"
"Chill out, Robin," Rob said with a happy smile. "This is fine."
"What do you mean it is fine? We didn’t actually approve of what she did out there. Flipping the bird on national TV! My God! What are the TV executives going to think?"
"Don’t worry, I will deal with them. What Dacey did was way better than what I had hoped. I am not going to complain about that. That, gentlemen, is a true heel moment that would remain iconic for years to come. I would be a fool to chastise her for that!"
"It did look good," Mr. Gibson said nodding sagely. "And the crowd was really into it too!"
"You both are completely out of your mind. We will be receiving a huge fine for this. Already the TV executives are not happy with us, but something like this would truly displease them," Robin grouched angrily. "Not to mention, now our schedule is all off track. She was supposed to be out there for another four minutes!"
"That is nothing much, we can manage, relax!" Mr.Gibson said calmly. "What I am worried about is the impact this change would happen on your storyline. You have already planned things for weeks in advance. I hope this doesn’t derail it."
Mr. Gibson looked at Rob questioningly.
"No problem, I will adjust accordingly. We can milk this for two weeks until Diana comes back on TV. We can make her promo against Diana!" Rob said excitedly.
"Then that’s good. We can discuss this later. Now send the next wrestler out," Mr. Gibson ordered turning back to the monitor. "And Rob, go and check Dacey. I am sure she will be beating up herself in the locker room now."
Rob nodded and stood up.

The moment the curtain closed, Dacey slumped down to the side in relief. Having all those eyes on her was truly nerve-wracking to Dacey. She never imagined having the crowd’s undivided attention could be so intense.
To not be able to feel those eyes anymore was an immense relief to Dacey. She could at last breathe a little easier. As she relaxed her body, her mind began to catch up with her.
When she realized how truly abysmal was her act out there, Dacey felt like a huge failure. She had been dreaming to get such a moment for the past few years. But, when the opportunity came, she had fucked up way too badly.
She felt as if she had let down everyone. Mr. Gibson, Rob, and all the girls backstage. She didn’t know how she would face them any longer. Guilt wrecked her as her insecurities once more began to pop up.
She felt tears prickling her eyes. She didn’t know what to do anymore. She didn’t know if Rob would use her again after such an abysmal performance out there. While she escaped the ring by doing what she felt right at that moment, she didn’t know how it would affect the future.
Dacey felt as if her whole world was crumbling once more. She really didn’t know what possessed her at that moment to flip the bird on live TV. She knew that she would be in big trouble for it.
At that moment, her mind was entirely blank. She lost the flow earlier when she froze. And one thing snowballed into another. While she recovered a little bit of her clarity when she heard the crowd chant, it wasn’t enough to help her deliver the promo she had been working on.
In the end, she tried to go with the flow and tried to lead off with what the crowd was chanting. Initially, it had worked a bit. She had played with the crowd and interacted with them as Rob had asked.
However, when the time came for her to cut her promo, she was completely flat-footed. She didn’t know what to say. She had entirely forgotten her script. As a result, she only managed to insult the crowd and walk away.
She feared that if she stood in the ring any longer, she would once again freeze and ruin the entire thing. So, with haste, she left the ring and walked backstage. When she was at the entranceway, she finally remembered Rob’s instructions to take her time to walk back.
So, she stood on top of the entranceway and tried to pose a little. But, to once more see the crowd booing her and throwing things at her, causing her brain to once more short circuit.
In the end, she flipped the bird again as a conditioned reflex. When she realized what she was doing once again, she had no other option than to continue with the act.
When she had felt that it was enough, she had hurried backstage. She could relax only after the curtain closed taking her away from the crowd’s eyes. The entire experience has been a huge disaster.
"Oh, Dacey!" Alanna was the one to find her.
She slowly helped her up and led her to the locker room. Dacey didn’t know how she would face the others. She had truly fucked up an important part and she knew that the others would be angry with her.
"Alanna, tell me, are they all angry with me?" Dacey asked hesitantly.
"It’s all right, Dace. It happens to everyone. The crowd was really bad. We could feel it even backstage. At least you didn’t fuck up too much. If it was me, I would be in pieces by now," Alanna comforted her.
Rather than calm her down, Alanna’s words only worsened Dacey’s mood more. She didn’t know how to reply. So, she kept silent in the hopes that this day would get over soon.
When they reached the locker room, Dacey hesitated a bit. She didn’t want to see the disappointment of others there. She wondered if she could just slip away from here and not come back.
Before she could do anything, Alanna opened the locker room and ushered her inside. The locker room was dead silent causing Dacey to wince internally. This didn’t bode well for her.
As she looked around, she found the reason for that.
Rob Williams was sitting in the middle of the locker room waiting for her. Dacey could glean nothing of his thoughts as she looked at her impassively. Dacey just wanted to turn around and run away at that moment.
Silence prevailed for a long time as Dacey looked away from Rob. She didn’t know what excuse to give him. Rob had tried to prepare her the best he could. And she had fucked it all up out there.
"That..." Rob spoke causing Dacey to cringe inwardly.
Dacey was sure that Rob was going to rip into her in the upcoming moments. It would have been better if he did it in a private manner, rather than to do it here in the locker room in front of everyone.
"... was fucking incredible. I am proud of you!"
Rob’s words were like thunder to her ears. She didn’t believe her ears at all. She looked around and found the same bewilderment echoing in everyone’s faces. She looked at Rob to see whether he was being sarcastic to her, but when her eyes landed on him, she couldn’t help but freeze.
Rob was beaming at her with a wide smile on his face. Her heart couldn’t help but skip looking at his beautiful smile.
