Booking Glory-Chapter 94: Rob’s Dilemma
"He is coming to my home for lunch tomorrow," Dacey said sweetly.
"I am?" Rob asked in bewilderment.
"He is. Don’t you remember? We made plans last week," Dacey said sweetly throwing a small glare his way, causing Rob to shut up.
"You see, he is terribly overworked and tends to forget things sometimes," Dacey said taking Rob’s hands in hers and rubbing them affectionately.
"That is fine," Stacy smiled brightly, but Rob could swear that she heard her mutter bitch under her breath before smiling at Dacey. "We can meet up for drinks one of these days, Rob. Here is my number, do call me when you are free."
Stacy tore a tissue paper and quickly scribbled her number and tried to give it to Rob, only for Dacey to intercept it with a smiling face.
"Don’t worry Stacy, even if he forgets, I will remind him," Dacey smiled sweetly and pocketed the number causing Stacy’s eyes to twitch.
"Well, I think I will get going. I don’t want to impose myself on you both," Stacy smiled and got up from her seat, causing both Rob and Dacey to rise as well.
She and Dacey indulged in an awkward hug that was painful to watch. Rob was sure that they were trying to hurt each other discreetly during the hug. But, he chose to not comment on it, fearing for his safety.
Stacy turned towards Rob and surprised him by hugging him as well. Behind her back, he saw Dacey’s eyes bulge comically. But, his attention was not on that. He could feel Stacy’s ample breasts pressing hard on his chest. Hot breath wafted near his ear causing goosebumps. Furthermore, he felt Stacy stuffing something in his shirt collar.
Stacy ended that hug with a wink and a smile causing Rob to feel a little bothered. He could see from the side that Dacey was really pissed about Stacy hugging him. As much as he wanted to tease Dacey a bit, he felt that this was not the right situation to do that.
"Ok Rob, don’t forget to call me," Stacy smiled and turned one last time toward Dacey.
"Dacey!"
"Stacy!"
Both once more nodded with fake smiles plastered on their face. Stacy threw one last look at Rob and left the place. Rob watched her go and let out a weary sigh. If Rob wasn’t wrong, then Stacy added an extra swish to her hips the moment she felt his eyes on her back. It was clear to Rob what her intentions were.
The ten minutes these two women met felt like a year to Rob. He turned around and found Dacey watching him scrutinizingly. Rob tried to make sure that she didn’t catch him ogling Stacy’s swishing hips.
"What?" Rob asked a little guiltily.
"Nothing," Dacey shrugged with a smile. "Don’t forget. You have lunch with me tomorrow. Didn’t you want to try out my cooking? Come to my home, I have something special planned in my mind for you."
The way Dacey said the last statement left Rob with little to imagine. He knew that things were moving forward in a good direction finally. He not only avoided a terrible discussion about their plans for tomorrow and was also getting rewarded with something he had wanted for weeks. He couldn’t be any happier than this.
Rob spent the rest of the evening chatting with Dacey. While sending her off, Rob wondered if he should ask for the note Stacy gave for a slight moment and discarded the idea completely.
Dacey had never acted like that before and he wasn’t a fool to not understand the meaning behind her actions. If he did ask, it would only invite needless problems. So, he decided to forget about the note and send her off like a good boyfriend. The kiss that Dacey bestowed him while they parted let him know that she appreciated his actions.
After sending her off, Rob went to the restroom and refreshed himself. While correcting his shirt in front of the mirror, a piece of paper fell from his shirt collar causing Rob to pause in his actions.
Remembering Stacy stuffing something in his collar, Rob opened the note curiously.
"Call me handsome"
The words were followed by a heart symbol and a phone number.
Even if Rob was denser than a block of wood, he would know what this note meant. He didn’t know what to do. On one hand, his relationship with Dacey was finally on the right track. After countless fumbles and mishaps, he has finally gotten an invite to her house.
However, Rob wasn’t a saint to be unmoved when a beautiful woman like Stacy threw herself at him literally. His young body felt raring to let go and indulge in some pleasures. And Stacy looked like the kind of woman who would light a lot of evil fires in a person.
Rob felt a headache forming as he looked at the note.
Letting out a weary sigh, Rob tore the note and put it in the bin. However, those ten numbers were seared into his brain by that point. He knew that if he wanted, he could just whip out his phone and call Stacy’s number without much trouble.
"I am a grown-ass man," Rob mumbled to himself as he checked his image one last time in the mirror. "I shouldn’t be tempted by these things. I am not a young kid who is desperate to get laid. I am over thirty years of age mentally. Control! Control!"
Rob let out a heavy breath and looked at his face in the mirror. His twenty-one-year-old face stared out of the mirror as if it was mocking Rob’s words. Images of Stacy’s ample cleavage and swishing hips appeared in his mind. Rob groaned as he felt his body respond to them.
"Goddamnit! It shouldn’t be this hard!" Rob muttered uneasily and turned away from the mirror.
"Let’s not fuck things up. I don’t need extra drama in my life," Rob said to himself as he walked out of the restroom. "Furthermore, I have to see Dacey daily at work. The guilt alone would just kill me."
"But that is the reason you don’t date where you work. How nice it would be to sleep around with multiple women. If only you were brave enough. You know what’s waiting for you. A dull boring relationship with Dacey! A hot steamy affair with Stacy! The choice isn’t hard!"
An insidious voice whispered in his mind causing Rob to grit his teeth and shake his head clear of these thoughts.
"I definitely need a drink. I haven’t been to Top Slam for weeks. It’s time I paid Nelson a visit," Rob muttered under his breath and switched his plan to go home directly.
*****
"What’s up Starmaker? What is your cup of poison tonight?" Malora asked cheekily when she came to pick up his order.
Rob was situated in a corner at the bar in Top Slam. He had never been to Top Slam on a Saturday night. The crowd on a Saturday night was larger than when he usually visits. Thus, Rob wasn’t able to find any relatively quiet spot.
"Rum, on the rocks," Rob said smiling at her.
"Oooh, going hard, are we? It is not your usual stuff. Anything bothering you?" Malora asked casually.
"Too much stuff running around in my mind. Need a stiff one to quieten the voices down," Rob said shaking his head.
"I don’t think having something strong will help that much?" Malora chuckled.
"I am willing to give it a shot," Rob smirked causing Malora to cackle loudly.
"Don’t worry, I will fix you up something nice," Malora said patting Rob’s arms and walking away.
"I don’t want nice. I want strong," Rob hollered after her.
"Got it, got it," Malora’s voice came from the distance.
"Heya Starmaker! How’s it going?"
Nelson, who had seen Rob order, came up beside him and occupied a seat.
"Terribly," Rob chuckled. "The next time I see Todd, I am punching him in the face."
"What did he do? I don’t think he did anything bad," Nelson chuckled.
"Bad? No, what he did was worse. I have been happily enjoying my life as a booker behind the scenes content with my life. This fucker had to go and shine the spotlight on me and ruin my life," Rob said shaking his head.
"Come on, it can’t be all bad," Nelson snickered. "A lot of people can’t wait to become famous. Being famous comes with its own perks. Tell me, how many women gave you their number?"
"Not saying, but I will say this though. These women sure have one hell of a timing," Rob grumbled.
"What happened?"
"Nothing much, it’s just that someone outright asked me to call them right in front of my girlfriend," Rob said causing Nelson to laugh hard. "Can you imagine how that would turn out?"
Rob shook his head.
"Looks like someone is popular," Malora said while delivering his drink.
"I prefer to be anonymous, thank you," Rob smiled. "How is your training going?" Rob asked shifting the topic.
"It’s alright. I am almost done with it. Your idea worked, by the way. Now that LWC is creating villains left and right, people are interested in my new gimmick as a witch," Malora smiled at Rob thankfully. "I have received some calls. Nothing big. Small promotions in the city. Still, my debut date is just around the corner. Thank you."
"Don’t mention it," Rob said sipping his drink. "If you can capitalize on this, you can go places with this gimmick."
"So, what should I focus on?" Malora asked eagerly.
"Simple, think about what makes a witch interesting. It is not your in-ring stuff that is going to stay with people for long. People have already seen women’s wrestling. No matter how much better you perform, it isn’t going to make an impact," Rob said excitedly getting into the topic,
"That’s right," Nelson nodded from the side. "What you said makes sense!"
"So, how do I make an impact?" Malora asked curiously.
"In order to stand out from the crowd, you need to have something unique. Something that will get people talking. Say, if you walk in while talking to a skull as if it was alive, wouldn’t it be interesting enough? Or if you bring about a spooky voodoo doll with you, wouldn’t that get people talking? It is in the way you present yourself."
"Yikes, I thought acting like a witch was just my gimmick. You are planning to turn me completely into a witch," Malora complained jokingly.
"Ha ha ha... don’t worry. As long as you differentiate between your private life and public life, everything will be fine," Rob said cheekily.
"Imagine you serving customers here in a witch costume," Nelson chuckled from the side causing Malora to throw a glare at him.
"Hey, don’t knock it till you try it," Rob said jokingly taking a sip of his drink. "In fact, I think it would be a brilliant idea."
"What?" Malora asked in confusion.
"You need to let more people know about you. That is the basis of creating a fan following. Why not use the customers here as a base? After all, you already have a large group of hardcore wrestling fans readymade in this bar," Rob said wiping his mouth with a tissue.
"I don’t get you," Malora said not getting what Rob was talking about. "It’s like what you say makes sense, but I can’t understand what you are getting at. It is confusing."
"Ha ha ha... there is nothing to get confused about," Nelson chimed in from the side. "Rob is telling that you should serve the customers here as a witch. That way you will let the people here know about your gimmick and create some interest before your debut, am I right?" Nelson turned and asked Rob.
"Exactly," Rob nodded. "This way, you have already created a buzz in the circle before your debut. As long as your performance isn’t too bad, you will get booked by some other small promotion immediately."
"How can you be that confident that I will get booked?" Malora asked challengingly.
"Simple, with the buzz you create, all the customers in the bar are a promotion’s potential ticket buyers. If I was a promoter, I wouldn’t miss such a chance," Rob smiled causing Malora’s eyes to widen.
"In fact, I think you can go a little further. Imagine if you perform some voodoo stuff to customers here and get it on tape. You can use that as promotional material as well," Nelson said excitedly.
"The fact that it would increase your business is also an added bonus," Rob said cheekily at Nelson causing him to let out an embarrassed laugh.
"I can’t get anything past you, can I?" Nelson chuckled.
"I am good with this stuff. It is my job, Nelson," Rob chuckled back.
"What are you guys talking about? I don’t get it," Malora said a little dissatisfiedly.
"Look, don’t get angry," Rob said taking a sip of his drink. "Let’s say you serve the customers here in your witch costume. The customers will be thrilled to be served by you. This will increase the traffic the bar gets. When your match comes, at least half of these customers will buy tickets to see you in action. You with me so far?"
"Yeah," Malora nodded.
"These customers who come to your match will talk with other people in the arena and let them know that you are serving here. It will create curiosity in them as well. They will come to check it out, bringing more customers to the bar," Rob explained patiently.
"Oh, I get it!" Malora exclaimed happily and then the next moment she turned to Nelson in a threatening manner and said, "I am getting a pay rise!"
"Sure, sure," Nelson agreed immediately causing Rob to break out in laughter.
"What are you laughing at? If I am bringing in more customers, then I deserve a pay rise!" Malora said a little angrily.
"Right, right, I am not disputing that," Rob raised his hands in surrender causing Malora to harrumph in satisfaction and Nelson to laugh. "But, you are thinking too small, Malora. Think, you have fans coming in to get served by you. You need to capitalize on that. If you serve them as the witch and not as Malora, then your popularity will rise."
"Moreover, if we can get some customers to act out rudely, and then you can teach them a lesson with your voodoo magic and get that on tape, you can use it for promotion as well. I am sure a lot of people will be thrilled to help you with it," Nelson smiled as he said that.
Malora’s eyes started twinkling as she started to process that statement. It was clear that her mind was conjuring up a lot of images and from her reaction, it seemed that she was liking them as well.
"Oh my gosh! This is so cool! You both are amazing. Come here, you both deserve a kiss for this," Malora grabbed them both and planted a kiss on their cheeks in a chaste manner.
"I would have preferred it if it was on the lips," Nelson said cheekily.
"That’s harassment, you dumbass," Malora snorted. "If it is Rob, I am game."
"No no, I am already in enough hot water with my girlfriend. I need to go to lunch at her place tomorrow," Rob chuckled backing away.
"Look at him already being so scared. She has you whipped, Rob," Nelson chuckled. "I would really like to know who this girl of yours is. Why don’t you bring her around here tomorrow evening?"
"Will see, I am not sure that is advisable. She is somewhat famous and the crowd might go nuts," Rob said scratching his jaw.
"You do know that I have a backroom, right?" Nelson said shaking his head.
"Alright, alright, I will see if she wants to come," Rob acquiesced causing Nelson to smile and nod.
"By the way, Malora can you get that?" Nelson asked Malora causing her to brighten up and run into the back.
"What’s all that about?" Rob asked curiously.
"You will see," Nelson said mysteriously and smile at him.
Rob had a bad feeling about it. When Malora came back carrying a large folder filled with papers, Rob could only watch in confusion as she gave it to him.
"What’s this?"
"Your recognition, my friend," Nelson smiled mischievously as Malora giggled in the side as well. "This folder contains all the contact requests I have received on your behalf from the customers who saw your picture on the wall here."
"Most of them are female, but there are few males as well. We have split it age-wise. There are all kinds of people in here, single moms, hot chicks, upcoming wrestlers, fans, and a lot more. It’s yours to choose, my friend!"
Nelson smiled evilly as he pushed the folder toward Rob. Malora cackled evilly from the side channeling the witch persona that she had as her new gimmick.
"I should have never agreed to place that photo there. I knew nothing good would come of it," Rob groaned under their expectant gaze. "I am gonna punch Todd into oblivion the next time I see him."
Laughter exploded across the bar as both Nelson and Malora continued teasing Rob for the rest of the night.
