Chapter 1549: Perks of the Elite

It’s inevitable, my liege.

Frankly, as soon as Weaver had said this, Skullius had already known what was going on. It simply agitated him. From then on, he had figured that his Primary Existence, his Default Hybrid Warmoth body, wouldn’t be able to beat Fulgardt.

Indeed, it wasn’t an Andori the Immoral was using to make himself invincible. It wasn’t a Treasure either.

It was Fundamental Barter, but the kind that an expert of Skullius’ calibre wasn’t capable of using.

Skullius remembered when Suzamete had said that there were higher forms of Fundamental Barter earlier. Apparently, these were used to create the foundations of worlds, establishing more complex Rules and making it so that a world could adopt its own power system for the living creatures that lived there.

Indeed, forging a power system was no easy feat, and neither was keeping a world balanced. For anyone other than the Primeval Deities, it was essentially impossible to create a Rich world without employing Fundamental Barter; or at least, higher forms of it.

As it were, Fundamental Barter was controlled by one of the Primeval Deities. He was a Deity that wanted greater opportunities for non-Divine combatants. That said, he did have perks for Divines. Useful perks.

Fulgardt was one of the few Divine beings with access to these perks. It was rarely said, because Aigas didn’t know him too well, but he had collapsed more than a few worlds like he did to Luserus’. He had gained a lot of knowledge from extorting weaker Deities who expended their energies on worlds they created and managed on their own.

That was how he had come by this knowledge.

To access Higher Fundamental Barter, as it was broadly called, the first condition that needed to be met, was to consciously apply regular Fundamental Barter twice on the same target. With conscious use, a user of Fundamental Barter could only apply it to one broad ability or object twice, after all. This guaranteed a maximum integral boost of 10 to said ability or object.

Fulgardt had thought this was amusing. Hence, he had done so.

His target... was the Fruit of World Myths itself.

Oddly enough, though, of the three conditions to accessing Higher Fundamental Barter, the second was giving up this boost (the ^10) to the target ability or object, along with signing an Extended Contract in which you gave up 30% of your soul to the progenitor of Fundamental Barter.

...Fulgardt had given that up willingly.

And now...

’He’s wielding the Seeds of the Fruit of World Myths like individual techniques. Like a miniature power system of his own!’ Skullius thought.

It was the only conclusion he could come to.

No wonder Fulgardt didn’t rely on Andori!

He had created his own system with the powers he believed he was given by the Wanderer Who Seeds!

No wonder he was so powerful when using [Evil Darkness] and [Just Light]!

Just now, with Limitless Paradox, a Seed of the Fruit of World Myths, he had created a loop where he could escape alive and unhindered regardless of what Skullius threw at him! freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Indeed, Fulgardt was free!

But was he?

Skullius looked at the Immoral with contempt. He had never hated Fulgardt more. The Immoral had broken free from the gown of death and was enduring the tolls of the unseen bell overhead with his recurring bodies.

’Liar!’ Skullius thought, fuming. ’You are just a slave to another Primeval Deity’s powers!’

The latest Fulgardt was lathered with a jarring film of darkness, and then he flashed over to Skullius and gripped his neck. Skullius promptly did the same. The two stared into each other’s eyes, one fuming, one thoroughly pleased.

NDONG! NDONG! NDONG!

The outrageous noise had been diminished to a meaningless macabre aesthetic now.

"This is it? This what you thought to do with darkness, brat? Creating some temple that paints the darkness as a sign of good virtue? Hmph. Well, I suppose it wasn’t your choice. It was decided for you." Fulgardt said, chuckling. "Nevertheless, you relish in this ability, don’t you? Is this what you think darkness is for?"

"Darkness and light are the same thing if you look at them with the right lens. Both have saved my skin and delivered to my whims as I have commanded," said Skullius as he squeezed Fulgardt’s neck more ruefully.

"No. There’s no such thing as same." Fulgardt’s hair rose and billowed upwards like black smoke. "There’s a line between everything. Evil and good are two different things, aren’t they? You’re a walking contradiction! Didn’t you just try to exorcise me just now? Like I’m some evil spirit."

"You’re worse."

"Am I now?" said Fulgardt and his eyes narrowed to slits. "Taste this and tell me if you still think darkness and light are the same thing."

...!!!

At the time, Skullius didn’t know what was coming, but he mobilised his other arms to guard anyway.

His remaining Inverted Amras hands rushed towards Fulgardt from behind, and Beyrmir charged towards the Immoral as well, embodying all the abilities from the monastery the Andori would allow.

Fulgardt pulled back his arm, and as Skullius watched, he gathered darkness around his fist.

The power throbbing in that darkness was distinct. Oh, it was.

When Skullius read it... he felt genuine fear.

The properties of the Seed of the Fruit of World Myths known as Exorbitance were stowed away in that darkness.

And what did Exorbitance do? Well, it amplified the effectiveness and power of attacks exponentially, twenty times, to be exact.

That was a frightening figure.

Skullius paled. He was as frightened as he was confused.

’I thought Exorbitance could only be used through a Phantasmic Reta—’

...And then the blow struck, cutting him off.

The Territory and the monastery were violently blown away after a sharp wad of light exploded outwards.

Then Skullius’ cry of agony came.

And then Aigas wailed too.

Edagon was eviscerated, as was the entire ocean all the way up to the Central Boundary. But they were rapidly reforged.

Suzamete strained to keep the world intact. Her efforts were admirable, but not perfect.

A great, irregular blotch had opened up around Edagon. The great void was flooding into the world from it.

Indeed, Fulgardt had punched through Rules, through Stagnant Space and everything else between Aigas and the great void. That sort of damage couldn’t be repaired with Suzamete’s current reserves of energy.

"Did you find the answer, Skullius?"

Fulgardt was standing on the new Edagon, amidst the creeping, sand-textured darkness of the great void. It acted like mist and cloud, slowly taking over the Aigas atmosphere. The Immoral didn’t mind it. He was more interested in the pile of Skullius a few hundred meters away.

The Hybrid Warmoth could hardly believe he was alive. Ju`wtte was tracing his body, as was the light of healing from [Sagacious Antiphon of Malignance].

Was it fortune or Fulgardt’s whims that all the Immoral did was deliver a raw physical punch with no debilitating additives? Physical impacts were a mercy, after all.

The staggering heat which had been produced by the blow had charred up Skullius badly. The heat was unlike anything he had ever seen, and even worse was the force. It ground his body to dust.

That was why Skullius was barely half a man at this point. He was blackened, his skin porous and smoking. Only his one arm remained, fried to the bone, as well as a chunk of collarbone to act as a stand for his neck and head. His healing was strained because his Amras reserves were dangerously low.

He barely had more than 900 units of Amras left. He summoned a skin of Exora Mead and exhaled a tired breath.

Fulgardt scratched his chin, chortled, and began towards the Hybrid. "I guess not. You should have waited your turn. Maybe then, after I was done with the Deities of Aigas, I would have allowed you the chance to use all the contingencies and all your trump cards before I killed you."

Skullius couldn’t even say anything back. His tongue was gone, along with his jaw. His remaining hand was moving, though, the middle and ring fingers slowly crossing together.

...But then Ju`wtte flew out amidst the creeping darkness of the great void.

It thrummed with great vigour, expelling a vicious merigold light.

Fulgardt raised a brow, surprised.

Skullius... exhaled a breath of relief.

Finally.
