Chapter 28: Building the wall Part 6

Aric felt a sense of happiness when he heard her say she was more jealous than angry. It meant she actually felt a connection with him. Sure, they were moving at a very fast pace, but he liked it, and she seemed fine with it.

"Alright, Ariel, let's have a deal. Whenever I do something with any other lady, you have the right to do it to me as well, so you don't feel jealous anymore," Aric said.

"Huh? That's a really blatant bribe, but I'll take it. I'll hold you to that," Ariel said.

"Good, then that's it. Now, please come and eat. You've been working for quite a bit," Aric said. They headed back to camp, where the goblins had all eaten and were laying down, relaxing.

"Seems you fed them quite a bit," Ariel said.

"Well, they have worked a lot, so they do deserve to rest and enjoy," Aric said. He would have never been able to move this fast without their help.

Now, all that was left was for him to fill up the ground while nailing the tree-step horizontal planks into the wall.

He served up a plate of food for Ariel and immediately headed to work. He started sawing up smaller beams that he would be using.

And in a few minutes, he managed to make a good stack of them already, all twenty meters long.

"Alright, goblins, let's go. There's more work for us to do. We have to finish this wall today," he said, and all the goblins happily rose to their feet. They started picking up the planks and heading to the end side of the wall.

Aric took a box filled with all the tools that he would need for this—the nails, the hammer, the glue—and he followed the goblins to the edge of the wall, where the two walls met.

When he got there, the goblins dropped the planks on the ground, waiting for their next instruction.

"Alright, what you have to do is simple. Keep the planks standing straight and fill the ground up with the sand you dug out. Make it as compact as possible, which means you can jump on it to compress it as well."

The goblins did as he said and started filling up the sand and ensuring that the ground was compact. It seemed like fun to them as they jumped all around, but their fun was getting the job done.

When they did it for the first few meters, Aric decided to start nailing the planks across, but he couldn't hold a twenty-meter plank alone from one side.

So he came up with a great idea, and he made the goblins see the mental image. Immediately, a group of them, led by Ron and Luca, got on it.

The goblins carried themselves on each other's necks, making them taller than the fence. They all lined up near the fence, about four groups of two with equal distance.

While these ones were doing that, the rest were still filling up the sand. Aric picked the first plank and laid it horizontally at the top. The goblins all grabbed it and made sure it was straight and stable.

He picked up a hammer and a few nails. He put the excess in his mouth, with their base inside so the sharp tip pointed out.

He placed one nail in the spot, and with only one swing, it went in clean. He took another nail and did the same thing right under the first.

When he was done with that, he took out the tube of glue and tried to make the glue get into the crevices.

He moved a few steps after the first nailing and then did another. He kept going until he was done with the first plank.

When it was time for the center plank, the goblins didn't need to sit on their backs anymore, so they all held it together, and Aric did the work quickly.

As for the one at the base, it was just a few inches off the ground. They held it up for Aric, and he nailed and glued it up.

They continued with this motion until they finished the first wall, but they soon ran out of planks, and Aric had to go make more. Ariel wanted to help, but Aric refused and said she should rest. After all, she had done a lot already.

They continued the work nonstop until they got all around and nailed the whole wall. Aric was sweating at this point, but he tried his best not to stop yet.

At both sides of the wall, they had left an opening for a gate, but that was something he would worry about tomorrow.

Soon after a few hours, they had finished the whole wall, and now it was starting to look like a real wall. But it was not yet done—not by a long shot—but he and the goblins were already tired as well.

But all the work didn't come without a reward.

[You have gained 2 strength points, 2 endurance points]

Aric knew that he had a few stat points as well, so he decided to add them now and call it a day.
