Building My SSS-Rank Universal Empire: From Trash to Cosmic Overlord-Chapter 147: The real battle
He had never seen something like this before. ’There’s an enchanted tool that can do something like this?’
Frexon grinned. "Incredible, right? Do you know why there are Tower Captains in the first place? It’s because only those with high potential, the bigger core, can handle it. They have so much essence to spend because they have to inject their essence to control it."
"What about essence stones?" Vale asked. Things like the starsalt are used to make essence stones and potions.
"Of course, it’s been used. Do you think only their powers could move that thing? This tower is basically an amplifier. With essence stones, they power all the enchanted symbols, and then, with their own essence, they amplify and shoot out attacks."
"See, the real battle is about to begin. That was just the monsters testing the defense."
As he watched, the portal ripped open, and then a large hand that ended in long claws came out. It was basically the bigger version of those monsters, but this one was walking on two legs.
As the monster came out of the portal, its mouth opened, and it let out a roar. Green fog bellowed from its mouth. But unlike the other green smoke of the smaller monsters, this one was corrosive.
The fog covered the ground, and any sign of life was quickly wiped out as if it never existed. Small plants dried up, and even the smaller monsters coughed blood and stopped moving.
Vale watched with a horrified look on his face. ’This monster is much more powerful than any I’ve faced before... How will I fight this if it was me? I’ll use long-range attacks, but those creatures’ hides look tough...’
And then, more monsters like it began to pour out of the portal, roaring and blowing out green smoke.
"This..." Vale didn’t know what to say. ’This is child’s play compared to what’s happening in the second layer. The reality is so far off...’
"You know, the boss monster of the Rift is intelligent. For a while now, instead of trying to break through the Borderland with brute force, it’s changed its tactics to focusing on one or two Flags at a time."
The monsters began to run at the tower.
And Frexon kept talking. "It’s been making more and more ruins with Rift seeds spawn so it can cause more ruin breaks close to our territory."
Vale was only half-listening as he focused on the battle below.
The monsters got close enough to the tower before it made its move. A windstorm tore from its battlements, aimed right at the lead monsters, and hit them like a sledgehammer to the head.
Two of them collapsed, making others stumble. Bones crunched and cracked as the sound of meaty thuds echoed. The monsters let out painful howls, but some were already up and running again, clearing the distance in large strides.
This time, it was wind blades that whipped out, cutting the air sharply. But it wasn’t enough to cause that much damage, as the monster in front took the most and collapsed, allowing the others to reach the tower.
Just as they were about to attack it, a wind shield in a dome flickered around it. The monsters roared and surrounded the tower. Their green fog boiled forward, slamming into the shield and beginning to corrode it. The shield began to show spider cracks.
Vale held his breath, his heart pumping fast as he waited for the shield to collapse and for them to overrun the tower.
The light around the tower dimmed; the humming sound it was making went down. But then it suddenly flared a bright silver, and the tower spun. The shield collapsed, but wind blades flashed out from the tower, cleaving through flesh and blood, sending it flying and painting the sky green briefly.
But not all the monsters were dead, and the portal was still sending out the large ones, although at a lower rate.
Vale swallowed and leaned forward. ’What’s going on now? The monsters are going to overwhelm the tower!’
He wasn’t given the chance to worry. The castle shuddered, and then silver light flashed at one side, revealing a door in the previously seamless structure. From there, the Knights of the Scuffed Bones poured out.
The one that took the lead was a woman who took to the air immediately. She was small-looking, but the aura that clung to her made her look twice her size. On her hands were two gray metal gauntlets.
"That’s Sybila. Tower Captain Sybila of the Sybila Tower. Yes, we use the Captain’s name for the tower they command."
As they watched, the wind gathered around Sybila and held her up. She then pointed her fists downward, and the gauntlets flashed before they suddenly broke down, turning into pieces of metal that froze in front of her before they suddenly exploded, rippling outward with a shockwave that moved like a storm, tearing through the monsters and sending them back.
The monsters howled with pain, but that gave the other Knights below time to swarm the monsters, and the true fighting began.
Errant Knights and monsters clashed in a show of force that cracked the ground and sent dust billowing upward. Flashes of techniques tore through the air, reducing the large monsters to pieces.
But it wasn’t a one-sided thing. With the strength the monsters possessed and the corrosive fog, though Sybila constantly blew it away, they still managed to deal damage to the Knights.
Frexon sighed and then mumbled a few words. The air around him changed, and small red portals that grew eyes flew into the battlefield to envelop anyone who was down.
Vale was familiar with the technique and immediately asked, "Where are you sending them?"
"Into the Sybila Tower."
Eventually, the Knights won and finished killing all the monsters. The ruin break portal disappeared after that. But that wasn’t all. The Knights rushed back into the tower.
Sybila floated toward Frexon and nodded deeply to him. Her armor was dirty and smeared with green blood. "Thank you, Frexon. Are you here in an official way?"
After asking this, her eyes flickered to Vale.
But Frexon shook his head. "Just passing by."
She nodded again and turned to Vale. "I lost a lot yesterday."
Then she flew back to the tower, and it rumbled to life immediately, floating above the ground and forward.
Frexon used his portal to follow them for a while, and Vale watched as the Knights rushed out again and into the ruin with the Rift seed.
Vale stared at the tower and the ruin in silence. He didn’t immediately notice as he was yanked into a portal.
