Building The Perfect Harem With My Heavenly Desire System-Chapter 24: Defeating The Undefeated Gambling king
Chapter 24
The second one continued spinning for another second before finally coming to a halt, revealing a six.
A low wave of gasps immediately echoed through the room as the number sank in. Some of the big shots exchanged frantic glances with each other, their faces mirroring pure confusion.
Though it was not a bad roll. In fact, eleven was an excellent result by most standards. But the problem was obvious. It wasn’t enough to match the perfect twelve from earlier.
Across the table, Damian stared at the dice without saying a word. For a man who had built his reputation on flawless control, even a single point short of perfection felt like a chink in his armor.
Alex could literally see the look of irritation in the man’s eyes even though he had managed to cover it behind a calm smile.
"Well, it seems like luck has decided not to be quite as generous this time. But still it should be enough to handle a novice like you." Damian said while leaning back against his chair.
Around them, the crowd was still buzzing with various discussions.
"Eleven... That’s still a high number."
"Can the kid really pull off another twelve? The odds seem astronomical."
"I doubt it’s highly possible." One man sneered, though his voice lacked conviction. "The most realistic thing that could happen is if he even manages to roll maybe a six or seven... To me his earlier game was just pure luck."
Marcus remained silent but a faint glint of ruthlessness, flashed through his eyes. Nyx on the other hand had not taken her eyes off the table, if not she might have gloated over Marcus.
She knew that even though Damian rolled an eleven, it was still dangerously high, their only shot of beating this was if Alex managed to roll a twelve again, but that seemed kind of difficult. Honestly she didn’t know whether he could still do it, yet she still managed to hold this faint belief that Alex could do it.
Damian gestured toward the table with a small motion of his hand.
"Your turn."
Alex stepped forward without hesitation, though some people might doubt whether he could manage to recreate his earlier throw. He had full confidence in himself. But he had to admit to himself that Damian was really a beast, a true titan at gambling. Had it been he did not have the profit instinct then he would have probably lost since the first match... No he wouldn’t have even had the opportunity to come to this game or get close to a person like Nyx.
Clearing his thoughts so that the profit instinct could work. Alex picked the dice, then tossed it into the air, to mirror Damian’s earlier arrogance. With a fluid snap of his wrist he released them.
The two cubes struck the polished surface of the table with a sharp clatter before bouncing into the air. They collided with each other before spinning rapidly across the glossy table.
Clack! Clack! Clack!
The sound echoed through the silent room as everyone watched with a tensed expression. Desperately anticipating what number was most likely to come out.
Soon their chaotic movement began to gradually slow down as friction began draining away their momentum.
The first die tipped onto its side and settled, revealing the number six.
Immediately the entire crowd gasped in shock but they calmed down and continued to watch what the second one would reveal.
Soon the second one which had been wobbling on its axis, gave one final rotation before coming to a halt, revealing the number six.
Immediately the entire room exploded with shock. Some people who had doubted him felt their faces heating up in shame, while some looked at him as if he was a gambling god.
"How did this kid do it? It’s impossible. how can he get another twelve? This doesn’t make any sense." A man said hysterically, with doubt written all over his face.
"But he barely even shook it. Could it be that he is some kind of gambling god or demon?"
"Damian Cross... The legend... He lost? To a boy?. This is so surreal!"
But Alex barely heard them, instead all of his attention was focused on Damian who kept staring at the dice with a look of pure disbelief. He rubbed his eyes to make sure they weren’t playing a prank on him and stared at the dice again but it remained the same.
Break already. Alex thought as a petty satisfaction curled in his gut. Soon impatience began to creep in. He really wanted to enjoy watching Damian Cross the guy with an ego the size of a planet break down. Call him sarcastic or petty if you want, but he still remembered the condescending looks that Damian had thrown at him as if he were some sort of a bug. Now it was his turn to look down at him. Oh how the tables had turned.
Finally his wish came true. Alex watched as Damian continued to replay the scene over and over in a daze. He could see the exact moment it finally broke him. The way he kept checking the dice, then trying to deny what had just happened. Honestly in Alex’s opinion it looked pretty pathetic.
’Like just get a grip on yourself man. It’s not the end of the world or anything. You just lost a game, that’s all.’
"No! This is a lie, I refuse to accept this! There is no freaking way that this could have happened! Yes! Y-you must have cheated! Yes! Yes!"
He roared while pulling at his hair with a ferocious appearance, but the crowd who had previously looked at him with respect now cast gazes at him with a hint of disgust and schadenfreude. The god of gambling was really throwing a temper tantrum like a kid. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
When Damian noticed the way the crowd were staring at him with disgust, he froze as reality settled upon him. He hadn’t been cheated. He hadn’t been outplayed. He had simply lost. At that moment his hands immediately fell limply to his side as the fire in his eyes slowly died, replaced by a dull hollow look.
For the first time since Alex had met this arrogant man, Damian looked like he had just aged overnight. He could even swear that he saw new streaks of white appearing in the man’s hair
Damian looked up at him, and when their eyes met. He said with resignation.
"This... Isn’t supposed to be possible. I can’t believe I lost to a young kid who I previously looked down on."
"Well I guess it’s just my luck. Maybe luck just wasn’t on your side today, or maybe you just weren’t meant to win against me." Alex said while flashing him a smug smile.
Damian suddenly let out an empty laugh.
"Hahaha! That is ridiculous. Luck? fate? It’s all bullshit. Strength is what matters. Control is what makes you win, so don’t tell me about any fate crap, boy."
Alex merely shrugged, since he already won there was no need talking with this loser. The sooner he accepted reality, the better. Without sparing Damian a single glance he strode off.
Nyx, who had been in shock from the unexpected win, walked over to Alex with an unreadable expression, but up close Alex managed to catch sight of the joy hidden deep inside her eyes.
"You really don’t fail to surprise me, Alex. Honestly, I thought you might fail. I was even planning to have you castrated as a punishment. Though it would have probably been a shame to ruin the asset of such a good-looking young man."
Alex felt a cold shiver run down his spine when she talked about cutting his junior brother off like some piece of meat. But he quickly breathed a sigh of relief and offered a silent prayer of thanks to the system. If not for the profit instinct, he would have been leaving this building as an eunuch.
Leaving Alex to his thoughts, Nyx turned toward Marcus and Damian with a cold smirk on her beautiful face. That seemed to make the world lose its color.
"The agreement was winner takes all. That means you’re done here, so take your people and crawl back to wherever hole you came from... And ohh do try to remember our little deal Marcus. I’d hate to have to remind you in person."
Marcus’ face went pale. He opened his mouth to retort, but found no words and closed it again. Without saying anything he turned around and walked through the crowd that was making way for him to pass.
When the noise finally settled, Nyx turned towards Alex with a genuine rare smile that never failed to make his heart skip a beat. This was probably the second time today he was seeing that genuine smile on her face.
"Come, you’ve earned yourself a drink."
With that, they walked out together under the envious gazes of many people in the room. From a corner of his eyes, Alex caught the silhouette of Marcus in the distance who was watching them with a venomous glint in his eyes. He leaned toward the man beside him and said softly, careful not to let Nyx and Alex hear about it, but unfortunately Alex had good hearing after his body’s improvement.
"I want you to find out how he did it... And if you can’t, just kill him. What I can’t own, nobody gets to keep."
Alex almost felt the urge to shiver. ’What a creep... But still he wished him good luck with that.
