Building The Perfect Harem With My Heavenly Desire System-Chapter 48: I Should Have Been Faster...
Chapter 48
Alex’s breath hitched for a second.
So the awful feeling that had been tugging at his soul was some kind of danger sense that warned him whenever the women in his harem slot were in danger. That probably meant one of them was in really serious danger?
His fist unconsciously clenched together, causing his nails to draw blood.
’Dammit!’
Why...? Why did it have to be now? Why did bad shit like this always seem to happen to him especially when he hadn’t wronged or offended anyone? But he forced himself to calm down. If one of them was in danger then who could it be? He analyzed that since Nyx would be with the baby-faced girl who could see seconds into the future and had a monstrous kind of strength, then Nyx had a relatively better chance of being safe. Plus, he was fully certain that Nyx was currently in BluePeak Corporation by now, so he ruled her out.
That left... ’Olivia!’ but why would she be in danger when she doesn’t usually go out, maybe except for... work. So that meant if she truly were in danger right now, then the most important thing, right now, was finding her immediate location. If he could find her location then the problem would at least be half solved.
With trembling fingers, he quickly scrambled into his pocket, brought out his cheap, worn out phone, and hurriedly dialed her number, while silently praying that she would answer the call.
"Please... Pick up. Just once , Olivia, please just pick up the damn phone..." He muttered under his breath, while tightly gripping the phone as it rang.
With each second that passed, his face grew more and more gloomy. It wasn’t like Olivia to ignore his calls whenever he’d try and ask about the bastard Zack.. she would usually answer almost immediately. So she wasn’t the type of person who would willingly ignore a call.
A faint sense of unease began to creep deeper into his chest as Alex imagined the worst possible sets of scenarios that could currently be happening now. With the worst of them being either her getting hurt or worse... killed. The ringing stopped abruptly, causing his eyes to widen with fear.
’No..’
He quickly pulled the phone away from his ear, staring at the darkened screen before frantically redialing her phone again. He refused to believe that she wouldn’t pick this one again. But after a couple of seconds passed, Alex felt the uneasy feeling from before returning back, this time stronger than ever.
His grip on the phone tightened.
"Pick up... Please..." He muttered again, his voice barely audible.
The call ended again, prompting Alex to lower the phone slowly as a sudden realization began to settle in. Nothing about this was normal. In fact it felt all wrong. If she wasn’t answering or even rejecting his calls... Then that meant, she was in a terrible situation where answering was impossible.
Panic began to creep in, but he forced himself to stay calm for the umpteenth time today, pushing the rising panic that threatened to cloud his judgement. If he panicked now, then he would end up making mistakes that could cost Olivia her life. So panicking was not an option right now. The best thing he could do was try and come up with a plan.
After a second or two of trying to come up with an idea, he finally came up with one. Since he had the desire store, then that means they might be a tracking related stuff there.
’System! Use the Desire Store. I need a tracker, a blood seal, a map... Just get me anything to find her.’
There was a brief pause, before the system finally responded.
[Sorry Alex, but they are not currently available yet. It’s until you level up, before new items will be added to the store, but...]
A phone chime suddenly rang out, interrupting the system mid-sentence. Alex hurriedly checked his phone and saw a message from Olivia. Without any hesitation, he opened it. Though the text was short and messy, as if they had been typed out in a hurry, Alex was still able to read it.
<Alex, pls I need your help... I’m at 14 East Ave... at the old abandoned warehouse near Helm Str... They’re here, pleas...>
Alex could feel the blood in his body suddenly go dry after seeing the message. It proved one thing, Olivia was currently in a really precarious situation, though he was lucky that 14 East Avenue at Helm Street, wasn’t too far from here. It was just fifteen minutes away... But still, there was a lot that could happen in that fifteen minutes.
"Driver!" Alex called out with a low dangerous growl that made the man in the front seat jump with fright. "There’s been a change of plans, head towards Helm Street. There’s an old abandoned warehouse around 14 East Avenue. I need you to get me as fast as possible, I don’t care if you crank up your speed to the max, just get me there now!"
The driver glanced at him through the rearview mirror, clearly surprised by the sudden change, but then shook his head with a weary sigh.
"Sorry son, look ahead. We’re currently stuck in heavy traffic, so it might take some time before we finally reach there."
Alex almost cursed out loud. Time was a luxury that he didn’t have right now. If he couldn’t get there fast, who knows what might happen to Olivia, and as much as he refused to admit it, he didn’t want to see anything bad happen to her. Yes, it was true that he hated Zack with burning passion, after all the bastard had slept with his bitch of a wife in his previous life and watched as he raised their children with love... But Zack wasn’t Olivia, he was just her stupid son. So what did his crimes have to do with Olivia? Plus right now whether he liked it or not, he was responsible for her, as her man.
Forcing his thoughts away from that, Alex stopped the taxi. If the taxi couldn’t make it in time, then it was best he ran there. At least currently he was capable of reaching speed, close to at most forty two miles per hour. A pretty impressive feat for an enhanced human.
After paying the driver his last pitiful amount of money he had on him, Alex bolted straight toward the abandoned warehouse, making sure to avoid being seen by people while running at such an inhuman pace, lest they sell him to some government lab or research facility. Though, he doubted that a mundane human would even be capable of overpowering him, except if they had the benefits of large numbers.
Soon building began to blur as he pushed himself to the limit. If he weren’t so preoccupied with saving Olivia, then he might have enjoyed moving at such an amazing speed.
"Faster... I have to move faster, I won’t be able to forgive myself if anything happens to her." He muttered under his breath, while forcing more power into his legs.
The sensation of the bond hadn’t disappeared. If anything it had gotten worse. But still it served to remind him that she was still alive.
[Relax okay. Just calm down and take a deep breath, I can feel how agitated you are. And that can affect your mind during the incoming fight]
"I’m not agitated. Okay" Alex grumbled as he leaped over a low fence in one smooth motion, barely breaking a stride as he landed and kept moving.
[Please I can literally feel it from miles away]
"Not the time."
He veered through a narrow alley, and almost brushed his arms against the wall as he sprinted through, knocking over a crate of empty beer cans that shattered loudly behind him. But he didn’t bother looking back. He was focused on only one thing; reaching the abandoned warehouse and rescuing Olivia. With his current speed he was confident he’d be able to reach her within ten minutes or maybe less.
After a while, he noticed that the buildings had begun to thin out. That was a good sign. It proved that he was finally getting close. Finally, up ahead, beyond a rusted fence and cracked pavement, he finally saw the abandoned warehouse.
It stood like a forgotten relic, its structure looked worn and aged, with broken windows and peeling paint that spoke years of neglect. The surrounding area was eerily quiet, that is, until a sharp sound suddenly rang out from inside.
Alex’s eyes widened. That sounded like a slap, and not just any slap but a tight backhanded slap that could reset anyone’s brain once hit. The bastard was probably hitting Olivia. So without pausing to admire the warehouse, Alex shot forward and pushed the door wide open, ripping it clean off its hinges, as it flew out.
What he saw made his blood boil with pure rage. Olivia was currently on the ground with blood slowly dripping out of her mouth, while a burly man with a buzz cut and a maniacal grin on his ugly face was hurriedly tearing her clothes, while she struggled weakly.
